Abstract:The test system of air fire extinguishing systems and components was designed,which can be used to test the performance of air extinguishing systems,the flowrate characteristics of spray nozzles,the equivalent length and temperature characteristics of components,test and record the transmission speed of extinguishant,oxygen proportion,air pressure and temperature in the simulating fire room.

Abstract:Designed and experimented in the synthesis of a fine chemical using uniform design afterwards optimized the data from experiments using intelligence optimization software.The results showed that: the combination of uniform design and intelligence optimization software could reduce the experiment number of times and the development cycle,the optimized synthesis techniques were steady and reliable,the product yield≥98.5%,the product purity≥98.5%.

Abstract:: This paper introduces the recent practice of teaching experimental design in physical chemistry laboratory in the Chemical Experimental Teaching Center of Nanjing University. The design of experiment is organized in four parts: selecting main instruments, submitting a preliminary proposal, making a presentation of the detailed project, and carrying out the designed experiment. The teaching practice proves that it is an effective route to cultivate the comprehensive quality and the independent innovation ability of students.

Abstract:The Fifth Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Contest of Zhejiang Province was concluded in October 2012.As compared to the previous format in which the theoretical test can combine the experimental skill demonstration well,this year's contest had significant changes in the format of participation,topic selection,assessment and scoring method.The new format can greatly promote undergraduate students' creative thinking and innovation skills and can also consolidate what they have learnt from the experiment courses.It has also raised much higher requirements on the traditional chemistry experiment teaching system.

Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems

Abstract:Experimental designs are very important in chemometrics, since chemistry, until now, is still essentially a field of science strongly dependent on chemical experiments. So, for a long time, chemists have been trying to use the techniques of experimental design developed in statistics to improve experimental works. Three major methods of experimental design, such as factorial design including fractional factorial design and orthogonal design (OD), D-optimal design and uniform design (UD), and their applications in chemistry and chemical engineering are reviewed and compared. The features of uniform design are especially addressed. Uniformity of space filling is the most important and essential feature of the uniform design. Based on this feature, its cost-efficiency, robustness and flexibility make it very useful in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering. Examples of successful applications of uniform design on improving technologies of various fields such as textile industry, pharmaceuticals, fermentation industry and others have been consistently reported in China since the 1980s. More recently, several various cases applying uniform design to chemical researches showed that the uniform design is indeed a very promising and powerful experimental design method.

Abstract:Using a unique dataset from one of the top-ranked universities in China, we exam how the quality of matches between students and top schools is affected by alternative mechanisms, namely preference submission before or after exam and with or without parallel wills. The results show that, compared with other mechanisms, students admitted in the school under the mechanism of submission before exam without parallel wills have significantly lower exam scores but exhibit the same or even higher college academic performances. We believe that this reflects the students’ higher learning abilities or academic interests.

Abstract:Chemistry was a discipline based on experiments, students'understanding of theoretical knowledge and digestion, as well as problem-solving capabilities and ability to strengthen, and had to rely on experimental learning lessons.Research design experiment was currently open experiment teaching reform important contents.This class required students to experiment for a topic, through extracurricular query relevant information, to design a scientific and rational experimental procedure, independently complete the experiment, reported results.Research on the creation of this type of analytical chemistry experiment designed to do a study on teaching methods and other aspects were summarized, and new ideas of how to better rely on designing experiments to improve the quality of teaching were put forward.

Abstract:In the laboratory teaching, it is an important part of the talent training goal for chemistry specialty to increase the comprehensive experimental content and set up the research-oriented, explorative and innovative experiments. Taking the experiment of “preparation and composition determination of ferric oxalate” as an example, by improving the experimental method, the students are guided to use comprehensively the theoretical knowledge to design the experimental scheme. Through the comprehensive experiment training, the students’ understanding of the experiment and scientific research methods is enhanced, and their experimental skills and ability of cooperation and communication are improved.
