Abstract:Seven novel C2-symmetrical macrocycles containing pyridyl units have been prepared by the cyclic condensation of homochiral diamide intermediates with 2,6-pyridinedicarbonyl dichloride under high dilution at room temperature. The molecular recognition of these homochiral macrocycles for amino acid derivatives has been characterized by various spectroscopic methods such as IR, FAB-MS, fluorescence and UV–vis. The macrocycle 11 exhibited significant chiral recognition towards the enantiomers of d- and l-alanine methyl ester hydrochlorides for which association constants have been determined. Molecular modeling was also used to simulate the interaction mode between the hosts and the guests.

Abstract:The synthesis of chiral polyoxometalates (POMs) has attracted increasing attention in recent years. The aim of this research was to construct different rigid POMs with organic derivatives. The POMs were synthesized with C–C or C–N links using N,N' -dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) protocol. The synthesized POMs are probably chiral because of increased steric hindrance of the bulky POMs to rotation at the C–N or C–C bond. Novel diorganoimido-substituted POM-based chiral macrocycles were synthesized using the DCC protocol. The POM macrocycles were produced in a controllable manner from achiral Lindqvist hexamolybdate and bis aryl amines bearing o-alkoxy chain substituents. Recent advances in synthesis of chiral POMs based on organoimido-substituted POMs are reviewed.

Abstract:(+/-)-Azamacrolides were synthesized via lipase-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of (+/-)-hydroxy-azaesters. Further, the size of the macrocyclic lactones formed could be altered by the substinuent on the nitrogen atom. Abstract:Macrocyclic polyamines constitute a significant class of macrocyclic compounds that play a pivotal role in the realm of supramolecular chemistry. They find extensive applications across diverse domains including industrial and agricultural production, clinical diagnostics, environmental protection and other multidisciplinary fields. Macrocyclic polyamines possess a distinctive cavity structure with varying sizes, depths, electron-richness degrees and flexibilities. This unique feature enables them to form specific supramolecular structures through complexation with diverse objects, thereby attracting considerable attention from chemists, biologists and materials scientists alike. However, there is currently a lack of comprehensive summaries on the synthesis methods for macrocyclic polyamines. In this review article, we provide an in-depth introduction to the synthesis of macrocyclic polyamines while analysing their respective advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, we also present an overview of the recent 5-year advancements in using macrocyclic polyamines as non-viral gene vectors, fluorescent probes, diagnostic and therapeutic reagents as well as catalysts. Looking ahead to future research directions on the synthesis and application of macrocyclic polyamines across various fields will hopefully inspire new ideas for their synthesis and use.

Abstract:Poly(β-peptoid)s (N-substituted poly-β-alanines) are an intriguing class of pseudopeptidic materials for biomedical applications, but the polymers prepared by solution polymerization have restricted diversity and functionality due to synthetic difficulty. Synthesis of structurally diverse poly(β-peptoid)s is highly desirable yet challenging. Herein, we report a new approach to synthesize skeletal chiral β-peptoid polymers from readily available aspartic acid derivatives. Two types of N-substituted β3-homoalanine monomers, i.e., N-(methyl propionate)-Asp-OMe (NMeP-Asp-OMe) and N-(tert-butyl propionate)-Asp-OMe (NtBuP-Asp-OMe), were synthesized in high yield via an aza-Michael addition reaction between l-aspartic acid-1-methyl ester (l-Asp-OMe) and acrylate species. Both N-substituted β3-homoalanines can be readily converted into polymerizable N-substituted β3-homoalanine N-carboxyanhydrides (β-NNCAs). Subsequent ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of these β-NNCA monomers provides access to oligo(β-peptoid)s and mPEG-poly(β-peptoid) diblocks with backbone chirality. Their conformations were preliminarily studied by circular dichroism (CD) spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The synthetic strategy would significantly facilitate the development of novel poly(β-peptoid)s with well-defined and diverse structures.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:A series of novel chiral imidazolium cyclophanes were synthesized from natural amino acids. (S)-2- (1-Imidazolyl)alkanoates(2) were prepared by cyclization and esterification. In the presence of DMAP and Et_ 3 N. Alkanoates(2) reacted with ethylenediamine to yield compounds 3 with satisfactory yields. Compounds 3 reacted with 2,6-bis(bromomethyl)- 4-chlorphenol, 1,3-bis(bromomethyl)benzene or 2,6-bis(bromomethyl)pyridine to afford dibromide salts under high dilution and anhydrous condition. Finally, the hexafluorophosphates (4—6) were obtained by treating the corresponding dibromide salts with a saturated aqueous solution of NH_ 4 PF_ 6 . The structures of the target compounds were confirmed by IR, ~ 1 H NMR, MS, HRMS, and elemental analysis. These compounds featured large cavities and multipoint binding sites. UV spectroscopic titration experiments showed these chiral imidazolium cyclophanes exhibited good enantioselective recognition toward L- and D-amino acids and their derivatives.

Abstract:Two novel chiral oxazoline ligands were synthesized from L-aspartic acid by a two-step reaction and the structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR and HR-MS-ESI. High enantioselectivity(96%) and yield(85%) were obtained when one of them was used to catalyze the asymmetric diethylzinc addition reactions of N-diphenylphosphinoylimines.

Abstract:Two kinds of chiral bis(oxazoline), tridentate bis(oxazolinylpyridine) (1) and bidentate bis(oxazoline) (2) were synthesized from amino alcohols via acylation, chloration and cyclyzation. Different synthetic methods have been tested. Some related intermediates have been characterized. Ring opening compounds of bis(oxazoline) on silica have been observed. 
