Abstract:Progress in the study of rotifer resting eggs is reviewed. The morphology of resting eggs, factors influencing resting egg production, the hatch forms of resting eggs, factors influencing the hatch of resting eggs and the researches on resting eggs in natural ponds are discussed.

Abstract:The studies on resting eggs of freshwater rotifer were reviewed in this paper.Both the ecological significance of difference for hatching pattern of resting eggs and the effects of environmental conditions (such as temperature,photoperiod,strage condition of resting eggs,and physiological characteristic of mother rotifer) on hatching of freshwater rotifer resting eggs were summarized.The suddenly change of temperature could induce the resting eggs hatched.The effect of light on hatching is different among several species of rotifers.Mother rotifers diet and resting eggs storing condition influenced the hatching rate of resting eggs.

Abstract:The accumulative hatching rate of resting eggs (RE) of rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus was observed under different environmental conditions. The rates of RE stored in medium where they were formed were higher at temperature varying from 20℃ to 30℃ and the highest rate was observed when RE hatched in aerated tap water at 30℃. The rate of RE stored in rotifer culturing medium was highest when hatching in aerated tap water. In contrast the lowest was found in rotifer culturing medium. At 20℃ and 25℃, the rates were similar as in tap water, culturing medium and in filtrated lake water. The rate of RE produced by rotifer fed on green algae chlorella was higher than that produced by rotifer fed on mixed algae. The accumulative rate was not associated with photoperiod. The rates were in range of 45 to 54.2% when stored in dark for 20 to 60 days at 5℃.
Diversity and community structure of zooplankton resting eggs in intertidal mudflats and creeks of an estuary

Abstract:Numerous studies on zooplankton resting eggs have focused on subtidal seafloors, but ignored intertidal zones. The hypothesis that intertidal zones have comparable community of resting eggs as subtidal seafloors was tested by investigating the mudflats and creeks of the Yangtze River Estuary with the reference of nearby subtidal sediments. A total of 25 species of resting eggs were identified using DNA barcoding of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome c oxidase subunit I. Rotifers and copepods occupied 32% and 24% of taxa, respectively. The remaining species included cladocerans, insects, arachnids, sponges and bryozoans. Both the abundance and species richness of resting eggs did not differ significantly between the intertidal and subtidal zones. Similarly, the intertidal zones had the comparable community structure as the subtidal seafloors. The intertidal mudflats and creeks, however, differed significantly in the abundance, species richness, and community structure of resting eggs. The distance to the low-tide mark, clay content, and chlorophyll a explained the main variations of egg communities. Most abundance and species richness of resting eggs occurred within the upper 15 cm sediments and greatly declined with increasing depth. Zooplankton communities were reconstructed by combining the sedimentation rate and the vertical distribution of resting eggs. Freshwater cladocerans and rotifers declined with an increase of estuarine and coastal copepods over past ten years. These results demonstrate that resting eggs in intertidal mudflats and creeks were comparable to these in subtidal zones, and were natural archives for zooplankton responses to estuarine environments. They may serve as a new link between intertidal zones and open waters, facilitate zooplankton dispersal by waterbirds, and recover past communities.

Abstract:Copepods are the key group in aquatic ecosystems, and play an important role in energy flow, the cycle of materials and information transfer. This paper summarized the distribution and composition of the copepods that spawn resting eggs in the estuarine and coastal marine areas. It also reviewed the survival time, hatching rates, abundance of resting eggs in the sediments, and the potential recruitment into the plankton population as correlated with environmental factors. The prospects of copepod resting egg ecology were also proposed in order to provide new ideas for future research.

Abstract:This paper reviews the academic and practical achievement made by the department of oceanography in the past 20 years in the mudskipper Boleophthalmus pectinirostris.Reproductive physioecology of this species is described,including age and growth,fecundity,gonadal development,embryonic and larval development,structure and function,physiological characteristics and cryopreservation of sperm,spawning habit,rate of oxygen consumption and tolerance of hypoxia,feeding habits of the young and adult fishes,activities of digestive enzymes and toxic effect.Great achievements of fry production in indoor cement pool and outdoor earth pond have been made.Farming standardization has been established.The ideas for further investigation are put forward.

Abstract:Vitellogenin,the precursor of egg yolk proteins,is a large phospholipoglycoprotein synthesized by hepatocytes through stimulation by 17β-estradiol in most oviparous species,which serves as the most important reproduction-related protein during oocyte hydration and embryogenesis.Also it has been widely used as an effective and sensitive biomarker for exposure to environmental estrogens in aquatic environments.In recent years,teleost vitellogenins have been most extensively studied and attracted increasing attentions.Attempt to elucidate the recent progress about teleost vitellogenins is made in this paper,including classification of different types of vitellogenins,and their respective domain structure,biochemical chracteristics,biological funtion,and metabolic pathway.Further expatiation was made upon methodologies for purification and detection of teleost vitellogeins.For short,in this review a great deal of information to understand the rapid progress about teleost vitellogenins are provided and the developmental prospects are also discussed.

Abstract:The silkworm egg hybrid rate must be examined to ensure the silkworm egg's quality. This article expatiates on the advantages of current method of examining the silkworm egg hybrid rate which lead to many after effects just like higher result dates than true silkworm egg hybrid rate, more laggard examination results and higher cost of the examination; Analyzes the disadvantages in the silkworm egg hybrid rate examination about artificial feed rearing and molecular fingerprint pattern technology ; introduces a easy ,correct, fast and low costs examination method which is based on the sampling distributing truth and makes use of the silkworm's modal character distinction.

Abstract:Yolk is the essence of an egg, and yolk percentage is a key index to determine nutritional value of an egg. Different consumption groups demand for various amounts of yolk in an egg. Understanding the variation of yolk percentage and its influence factors can be important to the products quality and market sales. In this review, we summarize the definition, research significance and influence factors of yolk percentage, and present some research results and current research progress on yolk percentage. Moreover, some thinking on the research and breeding of yolk percentage is put forward, which will provide reference for future research works.
Advances in the Evaluation of Oviparous Fish Egg Development Potential

Abstract:Fish egg development potential, also known as fish egg quality, can directly reflect the egg quality for breeding. The process of nutrient accumulation in the ovary and the normal meiosis of the oocyte can be easily af-fected by the external environment, which can also affect the egg developmental potential. Early prediction of egg developmental potential will assist in mitigating risk and in the healthy development of the seeding industry. In this paper, we have summarized fish egg and its components and have analyzed the research status of fish egg quality from different aspects, such as egg shape, biochemical composition, and maternal RNA. Further, existing questions in recent studies have been discussed. In conclusion, analyzing egg quality in terms of morphology, fatty acids, and genetic material, along with other comprehensive analyses and establishing a multivariate regression model of the ooplasm analysis can contribute to finding the key factors affecting egg quality. Meanwhile, in research on the egg quality of economic fish, the following research directions need strengthening: combining egg quality research with family building, counting the growth parameters of the growth stage from the larval and juvenile fish to market-able-size fish, and establishing the maximum economic benefit with genetic assessment. This study will provide a scientific basis for the evaluation of oviparous fish egg development potential for further research on the fish egg quality and also practical methods for risk anticipation in fish breeding.

Abstract:The transfer mechanism of fish eggs in water after spawned is assumed to cause the most intense impact on their hatching rate. Settling characteristics are different depending on the physical and biological properties (such as density, diameter and surface viscosity). In this study, the terminal settling velocities of the floating eggs of four carps at different water hardening stages were measured. The terminal settling velocities of the eggs gradually decreased with water hardening process. The terminal settling velocity of the eggs of bighead carp was highest, followed by black carp, silver carp and grass carp. Subsequently, an empirical formula describing the relationship between the drag coefficient and the Reynolds number was developed. The applicability of this formula was investigated in drifting experiments. We proposed a formula for calculating the drag coefficient of floating fish eggs. The drag coefficient formula of the floating fish eggs is suitable for the Reynolds numbers below 490. At Reynolds numbers >490, the drag coefficient was about 0.12. The results show that floating fish eggs differ significantly from other solid particles in their behavior and an own formula is necessary. This is the first study on the drag coefficient of the floating fish eggs. It further provides new insight on the movement of floating fish eggs in water and can be used in numerical simulation to describe the transport of floating fish eggs, essential for carp protection.
Composition and Abundance of Drifting Fish Eggs on the Upper Reaches of Xijiang River, China, after the Formation of the Cascade Reservoirs

Abstract:Abstract To develop effective management actions of riverine fisheries, it is important to monitor how fish resources (i.e., eggs) are recruited in the upper reaches of natural rivers, particularly where dams have been constructed, which potentially hinder life-history strategies. Here, we aimed to determine the State of drifting fish eggs resources, and the underlying environmental factors regulating the presence of fish eggs in the upper reaches of a river (Laibin section of Xijiang River, China). Based on surveys conducted over one spawning period (2016), we set out to: (1) describe the composition and abundance of drifting fish eggs in the 150 km Lainbin section under a dam control, and (2) analyze how the composition and distribution of fish eggs was correlated with environmental factors. A total of 15157 eggs belonging to two orders, four families, and 18 species were collected. Comparison of these data with historical records in the same area showed that the community structure of drifting eggs has changed considerably. Previously, the community was dominated by larger-bodied species, rather than the smaller species documented in 2016. Eggs were primarily detected between May and August. In the natural channel, the greatest abundance of eggs occurred during May and June. In comparison, the greatest abundance of eggs downstream of the dam was detected in July. The results of this study provide important information for water conservancy institutions towards managing regions containing dams to maintain the ecology of rivers and protect important fish resources.
Polymorphism in Resting Egg Size and Hatching Strategy in the Rotifer Brachionus Calyciflorus Pallas.

Abstract:This study examined polymorphism in the resting egg size, hatching pattern, morphotype, and starvation tolerance of stem females in a local population of the freshwater rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus. Fifteen rotifer families were cultured under laboratory conditions to induce the production of inbred, homozygous resting eggs. Each family of resting eggs was measured for size and aliquots were then incubated at 10°C or 20°C to test the phenotypic plasticity of hatching dynamics in this population. The distribution of resting egg size was approximately normal in each family, and the sizes of the resting egg shell and embyro showed significant differences among families, ranging from 6.4–8.9 (× 105 µm3) and 3.7–5.2 (× 105 µm3), respectively. Hatching rates also varied greatly among families at each temperature, with average values ranging from 10.0–51.5% at 10°C and 3.1– 67.2% at 20°C. Hatching temperature clearly affected the hatching pattern. Resting eggs of most families hatched synchronously at 20°C, whereas they were likely to hatch more sporadically at 10°C. We observed no correlation between size of resting egg and subsequent hatching variability. This was the first time to find a large diversity in morphotype of B. calyciflorus stem females among different families. In some families, most stem females lacked posterolateral spines, but in other families, they had two short posterolateral spines. There was a considerable variation in survival time of stem females that had undergone starvation, and survival time was positively correlated with resting egg size. The divergence in these life history traits may have important implications for understanding the rotifer's adaptive strategy and life history evolution.

Abstract:The eggs in ovary,laid eggs and the fertilized eggs of Rhopilema esculentum were observed.The egg diameter of three kinds of eggs is 74.57±1.05,84.22±1.13,and 92.03±1.39μm,respectively,which is orderly increased.The eggs in ovary of R.esculentum can not be fertilized.The eggs R.esculentum can not also be fertilized when they was laid 2 hours ago.The results show that the jellyfish eggs in ovary need to be transformed into mature eggs by some unknown mechanism,before it was naturally laid.There is cortical reaction when jellyfish eggs were fertilized with a bigger diameter,which needs further researches.So,the optimum opportunity of artificial insemination is nearby that time when R.esculentum naturally laid eggs.

Abstract:Broodstock nutrition is an important regulator for reproduction performance of fish,affecting not only the gonad maturation,gametogenesis,fecundity,fertilization of the broodstocks,but also the hatching of fertilized eggs, embryonic development and the survival of larval fish.Optimal nutrient would benefit the reproduction performance of fish,whereas deficient or excessive nutrient supply would depress the reproduction.In this paper the sources of dietary protein,lipid,carbohydrate,vitamins and minerals and their effects on the reproductive performance of fish in the past three decades were reviewed.Some suggestions were given for the key nutrients in the diets of brood-stocks.Combining with the research results on the terrestrial animal,the mechanism of how the energy,lipid and essential fatty acids regulate the reproduction performance of fish were discussed.

Abstract:The post ovulated eels could be divided into two types:one is smoothly ovulated eels(SOE),another is partly ovulated eels(POE).Ratio of Ⅳ +++ phase oocytes and Ⅴ phase oocytes in ovaries of SOE was much higher than that of POE. POE Ⅳ ++ phase oocytes and Ⅵ phase oocytes were commonly observed in ovaries.Concentrations of mGnRH, plasma gonadotropin and plasma estradiol 17 β were higher in SOE than in POE.Testosterone and cGnRH Ⅱ levels in plasma of SOE and POE were foumd without significant difference.

Abstract:Batch fecundity and spawning frequency are necessary for evaluating the reproductive potential of multiple spawners,and the reproductive potential is a key mechanism determining fish recruitment and developing sound biological assumptions for stock assessment.The study of batch fecundity and spawning frequency started in the 1980s.During these last thirty years,hydrated oocytes method is the most popular for estimating population batch fecundity,and postovulatory follicles method is the best for population spawning frequency.Though the two methods have some defects,they are undeniably to be the most practical and proven methods.
