Abstract:Objective To develop a minimal-invasive thermistor probe for measurement of tissue thermal conductivity. Materials and Methods Thermoelectricity resistances (GE, USA) with a diameter of 0.5cm and a value of 1kΩ were fixed to the tip of 20G PTC needle with resinous adhesive. The control unit of the measuring system was produced by Biomedical Engineering Center of Beijing Polytechnic University.3 probes were selected from a total of 10. Measurements of four liquid materials with known thermal conductivities were performed. Data were collected and fed into the computer for analysis. Results The measurements by a single probe have good repeatability. No statistical significance was found for the measurements by three probes. Conclusion The thermoelectricity resistance probe can be inserted into deep tissue conveniently when guided by US and because of its minimal invasiveness it also can be applied to in vivo measurements of thermal conductivities.
