A survey of oral health status quo,relevant knowledge and behavior among undergraduates

Abstract:Objective To investigate the oral health status quo,relevant perceptions and behaviors among undergraduates in order to provide reference data for improving oral disease prevention work.Methods A self-filled questionnaire was administered a-mong four universities in Tianjin by convenient sampling method.Results In 492 studied students,71.5% suffered from bleeding gums when brushing teeth and 64.7% had toothache.Students'awareness rate of oral health knowledge was 45.9% and there were sig-nificant differences in awareness rates among gender,grade and specialty(P<0.05).Only 23.8% students brushed the teeth for more than 3 minutes. Most of them never used the dental floss and underwent the tooth washing or oral examination. Conclusion Undergraduates' oral hygienic status is undesirable.They are fairly lacking relevant knowledge and long ignoring oral healthcare.More efforts should be put into the promotion of oral health education to enhance their related habits,thus their oral health conditions.
