An Investigation of Parents′ Attention of Early Prevention from Malocclusions in Shandong Province

Abstract:Objective To Investigate parents′ attention of early prevention from malocclusions in Shandong Province. Methods 752 parents,who took their children to Shandong University Stomatology Hospital during March to October,2014,were randomly selected to fill in the questionnaires. Recovering 752 copies of effective questionnaires,in which 307 subjects′ children were in mixed dentitions and 445 subjects′ children were in deciduous dentition. Results ①Parents′ attention to hereditary factors was low and those who had family heredity history paid more attention to hereditary factors. ② In terms of environmental factors,parents paid successive attention to diet,poor oral habits,deciduous diseases,and respiratory diseases. ③Parents showed more aesthetic concerns than psychological con-cerns. ④Parents of children in their deciduous dentitions focused more on diet,while parents of children in their mixed dentitions fo-cused more on poor oral habits and psychological health. Conclusions Parents′ awareness of early prevention is low in Shandong Province. It is necessary to disseminate preventive knowledge and strengthen parents′ awareness of early prevention.
