Abstract:Objective To study the dynamics of vascular volume and fluid shifts of different fluid infusion with a model of mass balance in hemorrhagic dogs. Methods Twenty dogs were randomly divided into four groups: CL group, CG group, BL group, BG group. Each animal was subjected to two randomly ordered experiments that separated by at least 1 week inteval. In the first phase, in which plasma volume expansion was studied under anesthesia, animals received 30 ml/kg of LR (CL group) or 10 ml/kg of gelatin (CG group) over 30 min. In the second phase, in which plasma volume expansion was studied under hemorrhagic shock, animals received 30 ml/kg of LR (BL group) or 10 ml/kg of gelatin (BG group) over 30 min. Hb concentration and Hct were measured every 5 min during and after infusion for 90 min. Hemodynamic parameters were recorded at the same time points. The distribution and elimination of infused fluids were studied by mass balance that incorporated blood volume and measurements of urine output. Results The volume expenssion efficacy(VEE)in BG or CG group was significantly higher than that in BL or CL groups. The value of VEE in BL group was significantly higher than that in CL group(P0.05). The increase of extravascular volume in CL group was significantly greater than that in BL, BG or CG group. Conclusion The efficacy of crystalloid solution increased significantly in the state of hemorrhagic shock, and fluid resuscitation with crystalloid solutions may be a choice during hemorrhagic shock.
