Abstract:Metal porous materials are possessed of traits of metal materials and functional materials. Metal porous materials are gaining their popularity in engineering applications due to their special properties, such as lower density, larger specific surface area, higher mechanical strength and excellent permeability. In this paper, the recent progress for research of metal porous materials by powder metallurgy technology were reviewed. Biomechanical metal porous materials, shape memory alloy (SMA), porous tungsten electrode materials, porous stainless steel materials and porous copper materials were mainly analyzed.

Abstract:Porous metal fiber media have traits of metal materials and functional materials. In this paper, the recent development of fabrication methods and the various properties of porous metal fiber media were reviewed. Porous metal fiber media are divided into structural and functional applications. The mechanical and physical properties of porous metal fiber media, including tensile property and compressive property were analyzed. Porosity and the sintering process play an important role in the mechanical properties of porous metal fiber media.

Abstract:As a new structural and functional material,porous metal is being paid much more attention in the world and found application in many industrial field.There are many ways to produce the porous metal,such as foundry,powder metallurgy and deposition technique.According to the original state of raw metal material used in manufacturing,the manufacturing process can be classified as: melt-based process,powder-based process and deposition technology.The paper described the manufacturing method in detail related to foundry process.A brief introduction was given to other fabrication processes.The merits and demerits of each process were also pointed out in the paper.

Abstract:Porous metal fiber sintered sheet,a novel porous metal material,is attracting increasing interest with the progress of the novel technology of material processing and combined machining.In recent years,the manufacturing technology of porous metal fiber sintered sheet makes great progress due to the development of its special pore structure and the urgent application requirements of the multi-disciplinary field,and its related applications are moving from traditional to high-tech applications fields.In this paper,the latest research progress about the manufacturing technology of metal fiber (Melt extraction,drawing,and cutting method) and porous metal fiber sintered sheet (Solid phase sintering and liquid phase sintering) are reviewed in accordance to its manufacturing process,and then the existing or potential application fields are discussed in detail.Finally,the development and application prospects of po-rous metal fiber sintered sheet are described.

Abstract:Methods for manufacturing metal foams and other porous metallic structures are reviewed. Liquid metal can he foamed directly by injecting gas or gas-releasing blowing agents,or by solid-gas eutectic solidification. Investment casting, infiltration under pressure or vacuum, spray forming, and melting of powder compacts which contain a blowing agent could also be used for making metal foams. The sintering method,and metal powder slurry foaming can make metal foams even in the solid state. And electro-deposition and metal vapour deposition could also be applied to create highly porous metallic structures. Finally ,various applications of metal foams are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper,preparation and application of the porous metal materials are introduced according to the state of the metal in the process——solid,liquid,gaseous or ionized state. Liquid metal can be formed directly by injecting gas or gas-releasing blowing agent.Solid metal can be formed by various methods,including metal powder slurry foaming,or extrusion and sintering of polymer/powder mixtures. Differently,metal-deposition can be realized by chemic or physical methods. Finally,the structural and functional applications of porous metal materials are presented as well.

Abstract:Porous metallic material is a new type of material with a special structure, which undergoes structural changes under certain conditions, thus forming a new structural unit. Due to their unique porosity and pore size structure, ultralight porous metallic materials have unique multifunctional properties, such as absorption and buffering of vibration energy, energy absorption and weight reduction, thermal insulation, vibration and noise reduction, and tunable performance, and thus are widely used in aerospace, energy industry, transportation, and biomedical fields. This paper reviews the research progress of ultra-light porous metal materials at home and abroad in recent years, including the basic structure and main properties of ultra-light porous metal materials, and discusses their application fields. Although China started late in this field, it has taken a place in the international arena with the continuous research work. In the future, we should focus on basic research and engineering application research to lay a solid foundation for China to achieve technological breakthrough in this field.

Abstract:Many methods can be used to fabricate nanoporous materials,dealloying method and template method are discribed by taking porous gold as an example.The template method is relatively convenient,and highly ordered nanostructures can be obtained by this method,moreover,the sizes of the pores can be controlled easily.Several templates can be employed,such as AAO template,PC template,opal and inverse opal template,hydrogen bubbles template,an so on.Therefore the method is used extensively.

Abstract:As the emerging functional materials, porous metal materials show a series of features, such as outstanding permeability, regular structure, unique mechanical properties, and excellent adsorptivity. Spark plasma sintering (SPS) technology has the distinctive characteristics such as high heating speed, short sintering time, and high efficiency. In this paper, the application of spark plasma sintering technology in materials preparation was introduced. The effect of spark plasma sintering parameters on porous metal materials was discussed. In the end, the prospect and development of spark plasma sintering regarding to preparing porous metal materials were presented.

Abstract:This paper reviews the recent development of porous metals with directional pores, from the aspects of the solidification principle, fabrication method, properties and applications. This kind of porous metals is fabricated by a directional solidification process in pressurized gas atmosphere, utilizing a metal/gas eutectic reaction (Gasar). By controlling solidification direction, not only lotus-type porous structure but also radial-type porous structure can be produced. The coupled growth of solid/gas phases is discussed by applying a solution procedure similar to that in the classical Jackson-Hunt eutectic growth model. The working window considering hydrogen escape and the formation of directional solidification porous structure has been given. Three fabrication techniques including mold casting, continuous casting techniques and Bridgman-type directional solidification method are introduced. Two new progresses about the fabrication of directionally solidified porous structure are described in details: porous alloy with uniform directional pores and high-porosity directionally solidified porous aluminum. Since directionally solidified porous metals exhibit peculiar physical and mechanical properties such as light-weight, air and water permeability, and anisotropy of thermal and mechanical properties, they are suitable for applications in heat sinks, filters, biomaterials and so on.
