Abstract:A comprehensive review of the CO2 and H2S corrosion mechanism and current protective measures of tubular goods were presented.The characteristics and limitations of these protective measures were analyzed.The Ni-based coatings made by thermal spraying were proposed to be used to protect tubular goods from CO2 and H2S corrosion.The preliminary experiment result showed that Ni-based coatings had excellent performance and wide application prospects.

Abstract:In this paper,the CO 2 corrosion process of oil tubular goods,and the main influence factors and the relevant mechanism are reviewed.The advantages and disadvantages of two models for corrosion rate prediction are compared.The characters of all kinds of conventional technologies of anti-corrosion are analysed.The principle for selection of anti-corrosion measures is pointed out. And the present situation of the study on CO 2 corrosion is also discussed.

Abstract:Corrosion of pipes is a common problem in oilfield extraction, gathering, storage and transportation. Fluid containing CO2 and H2S will cause serious corrosion perforation and fracture of oil and gas field pipes, which will lead to fluid leakage. It not only pollutes the surrounding environment, but also causes safety accidents. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of common pipes in the field of oil and gas field exploitation is reviewed in the presence of wet CO2 and H2S alone and in the coexistence environment, and the influencing factors are analyzed. The results show that CO2 partial pressure and H2S partial pressure play a major role in the corrosion rate of the pipe in the presence of wet phase CO2 and H2S alone. In addition, the effect of Cl- concentration on the pipe cannot be ignored, and the corrosion rate of the pipe decreases at high Cl- concentration (>5 000 mg/L). Finally, the research on the corrosion of pipes in CO2/H2S system is prospected, in order to provide reference for the formulation of protection measures for oil and gas fields and the development of new corrosion-resistant pipes.

Abstract:There are several corrosive gases in most oil and gas fields,such as CO2 and H2S.The corrosions of CO2 and H2S are the main corrosion in gathering,delivering and disposing.The corrosive mechanism and influencing factors of CO2 and H2S corrosions are described,based on which several anti-corrosion measures are introduced,such as the technology of coating,inhibitors,adsorption,sacrificial anode.It is also pointed out that many new measures will be invented and applied in protecting corrosions of CO2 and H2S in the oil and gas fields.

Abstract:The pipes in the gas fields are mainly oil tubing,casing and drill rod etc.With the development of oil and gas fields,the oil & gas production is facing increasingly adverse conditions,especially the deteriorating tubing corrosion,wax deposition and fouling in the oil well tubing due to the higher carbon dioxide,hydrogen sulfide and elemental sulfur etc in oil & gas fields.The corrosion of oil well pipes is discussed,the main corrosion causes of pipes are analyzed and the associated anti-corrosion technologies are studied.The advantages and disadvantages of different technologies are compared.The trend of future anticorrosion technology development is forecasted.

Abstract:A survey on tubing corrosion case history,which was induced by waters with low H2S and medium CO2 from gas wells in a gas field.While a review on the relevant operation parameters of production was also made.In order to understand the corrosion phenomenon of tubing steel in the field,series of corrosion test of tubing steel in well liquors was also conducted.The results demonstrate that the main factors responsible to the corrosion are the high brine content of well water,specific partial pressure of H2S and CO2 as well as the parameters of complex environments of wells.Then several measures such as surface treatment of tubing and new inhibitors etc.were proposed to solve the corrosion problems.

Abstract:Using an autoclave, weight-loss method and SEM, the CO_2/H_2S corrosion behaviors of oil tube steels N80 and P110 at different CO_2 partial pressure (310264 2 , 930792 6 , 1 551321 0 , 2 171849 4 kPa) are studied. The results show that their CO_2/H_2S corrosion rates increase with increasing CO_2 partial pressure, and the corrosion rates of steel P110 are nearly always higher than that of steel N80 except when CO_2 partial pressure is very low.

Abstract:The effect of H2S on the corrosion products for the corrosion of high strength sulfur-resistant steel was investigated in oilfield produced water under supercritical CO2 conditions by SEM-EDS, LSCM, FIB-SEM, XRD, XPS and theoretical simulation calculations. The results show that with the increase of P H2S, the corrosion degree changes from mild corrosion to moderate corrosion in SC-CO2 phase, while the corrosion rate decreases in aqueous phase. And also the localized corrosion was more severe in SC-CO2 phase. The structure of the corrosion product on high strength sulfur-resistant steel surface evolved from monolayer to bilayer with the increase of P H2S in the SC-CO2 phase. The bilayer corrosion product structure is composed of the inner layer of iron sulfide, FeCO3 and a small amount of Cr(OH)3, and outer layer of FeCO3. However, the corrosion products are bilayered structure in the aqueous phase, and the density of the scales increases with the increase of H2S partial pressure, which reduces the corrosion of high strength sulfur-resistant steel. The results provide guidance for the material selection of oil and gas fields.

Abstract:A theoretical foundation for selecting corrosion-resistant materials is necessary to address the corrosion risks in complex oil and gas fields and tubing for CO 2 capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). To achieve this, experiments were conducted using actual oilfield simulated formation water as the corrosive medium. Weight-loss corrosion tests and surface analysis methods were employed to investigate and compare the corrosion of four steel materials (C110, 3Cr, 5Cr, and 9Cr) in high mineralization, CO 2 , and trace H 2 S coexistence environments. The results show that all materials experience CO 2 -dominated corrosion under CO 2 and trace H 2 S conditions, with corrosion rates exceeding the controlled limit for oilfields (0.076 mm/y). The corrosion severity is classified as extremely severe, and the corrosion products mainly comprise a mixed carbonate of FeCO 3 and CaCO 3 . Both uniform and localized corrosion rates decrease gradually with increasing chromium content in the materials. The experimental study demonstrates that chromium has good corrosion resistance. The morphology of the corrosion product film transitions from irregular particles to rhombohedral blocks or flakes with increased chromium content. Carbon steel primarily forms Fe x Ca 1-x CO 3 corrosion products with a small amount of Fe 2 O 3 inclusion, while corrosion products in chromium-containing steel include Cr 2 O 3 , Cr(OH) 3 , Fe x Ca 1-x CO 3 , and Fe 2 O 3 . As the chromium content in the steel material increases, the content of Ca and Cl elements in the corrosion product film gradually decreases. These findings provide valuable insights into the corrosion behavior of different steel materials under the challenging conditions of high mineralization, CO 2 -rich, and trace H 2 S environments. They contribute to the theoretical basis for selecting suitable corrosion-resistant tubing materials for oil and gas operations, including CCUS, enabling the industry to mitigate corrosion risks effectively.

Abstract:Purpose The present work primarily aims to study the corrosion characterization of tubular steel API‐P110 in high H 2 S containing solution with or without CO 2 . Design/methodology/approach Corrosion behaviors of steel in buffered solutions containing 50 percent H 2 S and various levels of CO 2 concentration were investigated via weight‐loss method, SEM and EDS. The effects of CO 2 on corrosion occurred on the metal were analyzed by electrochemical techniques. Findings Corrosion rates of steel decreased as the CO 2 content in H 2 S/CO 2 solution increased. It was observed for the tubular steel to experience an increase in corrosion rate at concentrations 17 percent CO 2 or 34 percent CO 2 in 50 percent H 2 S while when further increasing concentration of CO 2 to 50 percent the corrosion rate decreases. Increased CO 2 content in H 2 S/CO 2 led to fewer anions desorbing and fewer reactants adsorbing, e.g. H+, H 2 CO 3 . As a result, cathodic reaction rate decreased and the amount of hydrogen absorbed decreased. Originality/value The experimental results showed that corrosion alleviated when increasing CO 2 content in high H 2 S and CO 2 containing environment.

Abstract:Recent developments in carbon dioxide corrosion of N80 well tube steel,the key factors of corrosion and research directions for the future are reviewed in the article.So far,some important results that there is a peak value of corrosion rate with increasing of temperature,CO2 partial pressure,velocity of flow;the structure of corrosion production scale effects on the process and formation of corrosion and only continuous,compact and high cohesion scale can restrain corrosion aggravating;reaction mechanism becomes more complicated when oil or H2S is added to the medium resulting in transmission process and interface state changing are found.Especially,investigation on effects of the varieties of corrosion parameters on the structure and mechanical properties of corrosion product scale should be carried systematically.Henceforth,the keystones are detailing the sensitivity region that corrosion parameters effect on corrosion rate,improving the method of dynamic simulatation test and probing into the dynamic electrochemical in-situ measurement technique.

Abstract:The CO2/H2S corrosion behavior of tubular steel N80 at different H2S partial pressures(0.001 5 MPa,0.015 MPa,0.02 MPa,0.06 MPa,0.12 MPa) was studied by autoclave tests,weight loss method and SEM analysis.The severe CO2/H2S corrosion occurred on tubular steel N80 in the tests.The corrosion rate increased at first and then decreased with increasing of H2S partial pressure.And the peak value appeared at 0.02 MPa of H2S partial pressure.

Abstract:An autoclave, together with weight loss method, is used in study of CO_2/H_2S corrosion rates of oil tube steel N80 at different temperature. The results show that with temperature increased corrosion rates increase at first and then decrease and the peak appear at 90 ℃. With CO_2 partial pressure increased their corrosion rates increase. With H_2S partial pressure increased, corrosion rates increase at first and then decrease and the peak appearsat 0.02 MPa H_2S.

Abstract:In this paper, recent research progress regarding carbon steel corrosion products and their effects on the subsequent corrosion process in H2S environments is reviewed. The classification of corrosion products; their dependence on the initiation, growth, and transformation processes; and the corrosion behaviour of carbon steels under wet H2S environments, and the subsequent corrosion products, are summarized and reviewed. In addition, the basic theory regarding the development of corrosion product films and the relationship between the corrosion products and hydrogen diffusion are discussed. Finally, future research and development directions of this field are proposed.

Abstract:This article elaborates the technology of CO_2 corrosion protection in oil and gas production process.The technology of CO_2 corrosion protection mainly includes:anti-CO_2 corrosion material technology,material surface treatment technology,cathodic protection technology and corrosion inhibitor technology.In view of the present insufficiency in CO_2 corrosion protection,the following measures are proposed,such as strengthening research on mechanism of CO_2 corrosion,thoroughly exploring the affecting factors of CO_2 corrosion and impact rules and improving room simulation unit to optimize protective measures for CO_2 corrosion.

Abstract:Recently,corrosion of tubings in oil and gas wells nation wide is extremely severe,so measures such as corrosion resistant pipe,coated tubing,corrosion inhibitor and replacing the corroded tubing in time are often adopted to deal with the corrosion problems.These usual anti-corrosion technologies and their characteristics are reviewed.The progress of the technologies at home and abroad are described.The feasibility of using aluminized steel as a substitute for the precent tubing materials is discussed and the application of aluminized steel in oil industry is analyzed by comparing with several present anti-corrosion measures.

Abstract:Under the increasing demand for safe operation and maintenance of supercritical CO 2 pipeline transportation projects, this paper summarizes the synergistic mechanism of process parameters such as pressure and temperature on pipeline corrosion in current CO 2 transportation pipelines. The critical phenomenon of water content affecting corrosion and the current research status of the intensification of CO 2 corrosion by impurities such as O 2 , SO 2 , NO 2 , and H 2 S on typical pipeline steel corrosion behavior are summarized, aiming to provide theoretical guidance for the risk analysis of pipeline steel corrosion in CCUS engineering in China. Finally, based on practical engineering requirements, it is suggested that in future research, more attention should be paid to the impact of supercritical CO 2 flow characteristics on pipeline corrosion risk.

Abstract:The corrosion behavior of the Xinjiang oil field (China) gathering pipeline steel was studied by a weight-loss technique, microscopic characterization, an X-ray diffractometer, and a three-dimensional microscope. When the CO 2 /O 2 /H 2 S system contains a low H 2 S concentration (100 ppm), the CO 2 and O 2 concentrations increase and the corrosion rate of 20# steel increases. When the CO 2 concentration increases (10–30%), the corrosion rate increases by 8.84%, and the corrosion product film thickness increases significantly by 231.01%, while when the O 2 concentration increases (0.5–2.5%), the corrosion rate increases by 29.24%, and the thickness of the product film increased by 29.21%. The two mechanisms that promote the increase in the corrosion rate are different. CO 2 promotes the cathodic reaction to increase the corrosion rate, while O 2 accelerates the corrosion process by destroying the structure of the corrosion film. The morphology of corrosion products is more complex. The increase in O 2 concentration increases the number of corrosion defects, and the change in CO 2 concentration has little effect on local corrosion. The corrosion products mainly include FeCO 3 , Fe 2 O 3 , and FeS 2 , but S and FeS are not formed. The reason is that CO 2 controls the corrosion process, and a large amount of O 2 is consumed, which weakens the interaction between H 2 S and O 2 .

Abstract:Electrochemical measurement techniques, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were applied to investigate the corrosion behavior of N80 tube steel in simulant static solution with carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at a temperature of 100°C. Sweet corrosion occurred when a very small partial pressure of H2S was added. At this condition, uniform corrosion was found. The added H2S only accelerated the general corrosion rate. Sour corrosion was primary as the partial pressure of H2S increased to 0.010MPa. The general corrosion rate decreased quickly, but severe pitting was found. The corrosion scale, mainly composed of coarse grains of mackinawite (FeS1−x), was loose and brittle. In sour corrosion, general corrosion rate decreased slowly and pitting became slight with increasing partial pressure of H2S because the primary corrosion product, fine grains of pyrrhotite (FeS1+x), made the scale more compact and continuous.
