Dynamic Smoke Particle Size Distribution in Test Fire

Abstract:Dynamic smoke aerosol of five European standard test fire,including open wood fire(TF1),smoldering cotton fire(TF3),polyurethane fire(TF4),N-heptan fire(TF5),and methylated spirits fire(TF6),was measured by Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer Spectrometer,and smoke particle size distribution and particle number concentration were recorded and analyzed for studying the smoke dynamic coagultion effect.The experiment results indicate that before fire detectors respond the smoke particle size distributions are at 100～500 nm of TF5,50～400 nm of TF1,TF4 as well as TF3,and the total number concentiation of smoke particles increases with time and decreases a short time,before the test materials were exhausted.The smoke particle size distribution is bimodal skew distribution.Smoke size distribution shape changes and the geometric mean size shifts to right with time for smoldering fire and flame fire expect the methylated spirits fire(TF6).The size distribution of methylated spirits is self-preserving with time at 3m,4m and 6m high.Normalized the number concentration,the broadening of size distribution with time can indicate the smoke coagulation is an important role to smoke aerosol in smoke simulation.
