Abstract:The communication mode and architecture-based on IEC 61850 is the development tendency of substation automation and it is also the base of digital substation in future.This paper introduces the design scheme of 220kV substation relay protection for application of IEC 61850,which adopts a mode to combine the normal primary equipments with IED according to IEC61850 specification.It studies the design scheme of digital substation and the compatible mode of conventional substation.The paper also analyzes the instantiation of GOOSE application.It has reference meaning for understanding the development tendency of substation automation and studying how to apply IEC 61850 in practical engineering.

Abstract:High voltage direct current (HVDC) has broad application prospects resulting from energy distribution and network structure in China. The HVDC transmission line is long, and the failure rate is high. Thus the relay performance is of vital* importance to the HVDC transmission system security and fault recovery. At present, the operation of the HVDC transmission line protection system and devices are generally provided by ABB or SIEMENS. In engineering application, the HVDC line protection theory is not complete, and the reliability inadequate. As line fault is responded by the DC control system, DC blocking and unnecessary downtime occur more often than not. Based on the state of the art of the protection principle of the classified study, the advantages and disadvantages of principles of protection are reviewed. Finally, several important problems for further study are suggested.

Program and application of relay fault information intelligent analysis

Abstract:In order to meet the construction of regulation integration system and improve intelligent fault information analysis system of relay protection in power grid, this paper designs a practical implementation scheme for relay protection and intelligent fault analysis system. In the proposed scheme, models of primary device and secondary device are unified based on integrative information platform and hierarchical distributed structure. Fault recorder data is uploaded by different channels, in main substation side, fault diagnosis and analysis is made based on multi-source information in EMS, fault information system and fault recording system. Furthermore, a compatible solution is also put forward for the transitional stage of intelligent fault information analysis system. The system has been run in Fujian Power Grid, and the operation status show that the intelligent analysis of relay protection fault information system can be achieved well, providing reference for construction of power system fault information intelligent assistant-decision-making system.

Abstract:Based on 750 kV power system parameters provided by Northwest China Electric Power Corporation and dynamic simulation project offered by Electric Power Research Institute,several special problems of 750 kV transmission line are presented through RTDS that should be paid attention.In addition,its influences to protective relaying are analyzed in this paper,such as capacitance current,transient process,transition resistance,connecting unloaded line to system,heavy load,and great fault current.It is expected that it can be helpful for studying or developing UHV transmission line protection device.

Abstract:Impedance between faulted line and ground was generally regarded as a resistance,but in some cases the equivalent impedance can be reactive.The impedance loci with fault impedance seen by the protection in this condition was analyzed.Based on different mal-operation of relay,the solution scheme was given and an adaptive criterion was proposed.The simulation results show that the new adaptive relay has excellent adaptablity and selectivity,can prevent error action,illustrates a good prospect of application and extension.

Abstract:It is no longer difficult to get remote information by relay protection in smart grid and it is also required that the settings of relay protection should follow the change of power network and the network should be strong,self-healing and high secure after fault is cleared.A new scheme of coordination between main and backup protections is presented.By applying the principle of absolute selectivity and multi-level information redundancy.the backup protection makes use of the state information from adjacent substations to reduce the number of backup relays and avoid complicated setting coordination.The theory and algorithm of optimal reclosing time based on the minimum unbalanced energy after the last operation is presented to reduce the impulse of reclosing operation on system.The six-phase complex reclose scheme with the post -fault system robustness as its objective is given for the parallel lines on same tower.

Study of Reliability Modeling for Relay Protection System in Digital Substations

Abstract:Compared with the traditional substation relay protection, the structure and content of relay protection system in digital substation have changed greatly and there is no standard model and method to evaluate their reliability. Based on the analysis of the constitution of digital substation relay protection systems, the information flow is divided into three kinds, which are time synchronization flow, SV flow and GOOSE flow, and their possible topology for each kind of flow is analyzed. Then it uses the minimal path sets algorithm to calculate the connected rate of three kinds of information flow, and uses series and parallel model to calculate the overall reliability of relay protection systems. At last the paper discusses the software realization of this modeling algorithm, and the example analysis shows that this modeling method provides effective means to evaluate the reliability of different schemes of relay protection systems.

Abstract:Accurate conditions monitoring and early wrong action warnings of relay protection in the Smart Substation is the basic guarantee to realize the normal operation of primary and secondary system of the power grid. At present, the traditional operation and maintenance monitoring methods of relay protections have poor timeliness, while some automatic monitoring methods have insufficient early warning performance, and lack the online action deduction function independent of the actual device. In this paper, a design method of integrated action deduction system including protection logic reasoning and software and hardware operation condition is proposed. The system can receive real-time operation information of protection online, simulate different types of faults, and output the recording information of sub modules belongs to the action deduction system. It can realize the online monitoring of device faults such as deducing the correctness of setting values at a certain time in the future, giving the wrong action warnings and predicting the probability of them as well, which effectively improves the operation and maintenance efficiency of the secondary system in the intelligent substation.

Abstract:Along with the extensive application of optocoupler element in the secondary equipment of integrated automatic substations,its operating characteristic also needs much attention.In this paper,an application example of failure protection maloperation is given.It analyzes the action mechanics of the electric capacity discharge.The optocoupler element will misdirect positive pole of DC System grounding,because of the existent electric capacity effect of a long electric cable to the ground.It puts forward the improving measure of using a higher power(8W) intermediate relay restart,and provides useful reference for same category failure protection of the bus.

Abstract:The cross differential protection used to protect parallel double transmission lines is able to offer fast operation without the need for communication link. However, the conventional cross differential relay is not sensitive enough to protect EHV transmission lines because of the requirement for high setting values. In this paper, a percentage cross differential element is used to improve the performance of the conventional cross differential relay. A Voltage start and a phase selection element are also used to improve the stability of the percentage cross differential relay. The percentage cross differential relay is implemented in to latest numeric platform. Extensive tests using EMTP and RTDS show that the relay is able to give significantly improve the performance of the conventional cross differential relay by extending the coverage of the instant tripping zone and increasing the reliability of the protection scheme.

Abstract:A virtual power plant aggregates many distributed resources. Its operation mode is complex and changeable. The distribution network with virtual power plants has great differences in power flow distribution under different operation modes, and the short-circuit current flowing through local relays changes frequently. It is difficult for traditional relay protection to adapt. Therefore, this paper first models the inverter interface distributed generation (IIDG) aggregated by virtual power plants. Then the phase difference between the fault component of the positive sequence voltage of the bus and the fault component of the positive sequence current of each feeder is used to construct a protection scheme. This scheme is not affected by the operation mode of the virtual power plant and can be accurately located under various fault conditions. Finally, a simulation example is built using PSCAD to verify the above method.

Abstract:Main duties of relay protection are correctly and quickly judging and clearing system faults, which greatly derive voltage sags in a distribution system. Whereas, it is less reported for the evaluation and application of sag mitigation capabilities to relay protection. By introducing the protection operation characteristic into the CBEMA (Computer Business Equipment Manufacturing Association) curve, the secure work region of sensitive equipment under voltage sags and the sag mitigation capabilities provided by current protection under system faults are presented and modeled. And then the maximum sag protection capabilities of current protection and the size of the secure work region can be achieved. Theoretical analysis and simulations prove that sag mitigation with relay protection is valid. Also, it is concluded that the only effective improvement is the extension of the instantaneous relay protection zone.
