Abstract:Artificial oil mixing experiment is frequently adopted in quantifying mixed oils at present.The author first summarizes the common process of the experiment,and then puts forward 4 questions during experimentation: nonlinear variation of biomarker ratios caused by different maturity of end member oils,invalidation of conventional biomarker parameters under the condition of high maturity or strong degradation degree,being hard to get end member samples in complex geological conditions,complexity of geochemical parameter's changing rules and experimental processes when there are many end member samples.Afterward,solutions to the above mentioned questions are proposed: quantitative analysis of biomarkers,selection of special biomarkers,multivariate data analysis,and computer software data analysis.Finally,a new multivariate data analysis method for quantifying mixed oils is introduced,through which,the numbers,composition and proportion of end member samples could be calculated even without knowing the end member samples or adopting the artificial oil mixing experiment.This method is particularly useful to quantify mixed proportion under complicated geological conditions.

Abstract:With increasing demand and consumption of crude oils,oil spill accidents during production and transportation have become increasingly serious.Precisely determining the sources of spilled oils can provide scientific evidence for the investigation and handling of oil spill accidents.Based on enormous research data published at home and abroad,this paper reviews organic geochemical methods and indices which characterize the composition and variation of spilled oils during the whole spilling process from the original source to the final samples.The study revealed that some organic geochemical theories can reliably be used in the process of identifying spilled oil sources.In combination with the developing trend of organic geochemistry,it is advanced in this paper that quantification of oil fingerprints on a molecular level(including digitalization of oil fingerprints,molecular diagnostic indicators,quantitative identification of mixed sources and multivariate statistical analysis of analytical results,etc.) is a developing trend of future study on the identification of oil spill sources.
The Change of Crude Oil Components in Different Production Stages

Abstract:Crude oils in different production stages are analyzed by organic geochemical technology. The oils from Donghe,Tazhong and Lunnan oil field in Tarim basin are collected from different stages in the process of production. In addition, the variation rule of crude oil components is studied and the internal relations between crude oil components and production stages are also investigated. The experiment results indicate that the saturate/aromatics ratio show decreasing trend with production; There is a direct relationship between saturate and NSO + asphaltene with production. The carbon number range or the peak carbon number of normal alkanes in crude oils shift backuard and the light/heavy hydrocarbons ratio show decreasing trendtion.During oil recovery,polar components including various heteroatom-bearing functional groups with basic or acidic property tend to reduce in crude oil Therefore, this investigation has practice significance in researching expelled mechanics from microcosmic points of view, evaluating wetting alteration in crude oils and increasing production ratio of crude oils.

Abstract:Bio-oil from sludge pyrolysis in a fixed bed oven is divided into water (24%), light-oil (13%), mid-oil (32%), residue (28%), and volume loss (3%) by a two-step distillation. The fuel characters of pyrolysis oil, light-oil, and mid-oil are compared with that of No. 2 fuel standard in China, and the results confirm that mid-oil is close to and can substitute for commercial diesel. Gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy is employed to determine the composition of light-oil and mid-oil. It is found that complex compounds and hydrocarbons are 16.39 and 83.61% in light-oil, while they are found to be 48.35 and 51.67% in mid-oil.

Abstract:Based on the systematic analyses of light hydrocarbon, saturated and aromatic fractions of over 60 oil samples collected from oil fields in the northern and western Qaidam basin, the geochemical characteristics of the oils in the two regions were studied. Based on the calibrating of analytical data of source rocks, identification parameters on age-specific biomarkers for oil source rock age were put forward. The research results show that the oils in northern margin have K 1 (Mango's light hydrocarbon parameter) values of around 1.1, abundant methylcyclohexane and toluene, odd over even n-alkane preference, high Pr/Ph ratios, reflecting the feature of organic matter deposited in Jurassic freshwater lacustrine facies. Whereas, the oils in the western region arc characterized by K 1 values of almost over 1.2, high abundance of isoalkanes in light hydrocarbons, bimodal n-alkane distribution with odd-to-even (C 11∼C 17) and even-to-odd (C 18∼C 28) predominance, low Pr/Ph, high relative concentration (>30%) Of C 28 sterane, abundant alkyl-chromans (MTTC) with 5, 7, 8-trimethyl-/8-methyl-MTTC ratios<10, indicating the signature of Tertiary saline lacustrine organic matter. Oleanane and norcholestane are believed to be useful age-specific biomarkers for differentiating the oils derived from Jurassic and Tertiary source rocks. Tertiary oils are confirmed by the appearance of oleanane and high 24-/24-+27-norcholestane ratios>0.6. Jurassic oils lack oleanane and have low 24-/24-+27- norcholestane ratios (<0. 25).

Abstract:Isotopic composition characteristics and the significance of immature and low-mature oils are first systematically discussed. The carbon isotopes of the whole oil can be divided into two groups, one has δ13C main peak values ranging from -30‰ to -29 and the other from -27‰ to-25‰, they are related to lacustrine and salt-lake facies or swamp facies, respectively. The carbon isotopic fractionation among different group components is relatively small, usually less than 2‰ and the biggest difference in fractionation often occurs between saturated and aromatic fractions. Their δD values vary between -180‰ and -130‰ The main peak of their δD values concentrates between -170‰ and -150‰, suggesting a domination of lacustrine fades. However, the secondary peak ranges from -160‰ to -150‰, showing a frequent salinization of paleo-water bodies. The average δ13C values of the methane vary between -50‰ and -52‰, about 10‰ lighter than those of mature oils. There is a relatively good correlationship between immature and low-mature oils and their source rocks in carbon isotopic compositions of group fractions and monohydrocarbons; moreover, compared with the source rocks of mature oils, that of immature oils is often relatively depleted in13C, which is one of the characteristics of immature oils, differing from those of mature oils.

Abstract:Aging oil is a common pollutant in petrochemical enterprises due to its severe emulsification and flocculation, poor settling performance, low oil recovery rate, and high difficulty in treatment. This article adopts the method of mechanical, ultrasonic, and chemical coupling demulsification to treat aging oil, with the water content and oil recovery rate of the treated aging oil as the inspection indicators. The experiment shows that when the oil-water ratio is 1:4, the heating temperature is 50°C, the stirring speed is 180rpm, the ultrasonic frequency is 25kHz, the power is 40W, the ultrasonic time is 25min, and the pH is adjusted to 3-4. The additional amount of FeSO4 is 160mg/L, the additional amount of H2O2 is 0.11%, and the heating stirring reaction is 40min. When the dosage of cationic PAM with an ion degree of 50 is 35mg/L, the centrifugation speed is 3200rpm. The centrifugation time is 20 min, the crude oil recovery rate after aging oil treatment can reach over 94.6%, and the water content of the treated crude oil is less than 0.5%, meeting the standards for crude oil gathering and transportation in China. The oil content in the water generated after aging oil treatment is about 150 mg.L-1, the suspended solids content is 200 mg.L-1, the oil content in the residue is 6%, and the water content is 53%. By analyzing the appearance of aging oil before and after treatment, it was found that when using this process to treat aging oil, the original spatial cross-linking network structure of the aging oil was broken, allowing the water droplets wrapped in the oil to be released, thereby significantly reducing the water content in the recovered oil and improving the oil recovery rate.

Abstract:It is an important task for “petroleomics” to realize quantitative analysis of molecular composition of crude oil. In this study, we proposed a strategy for semiquantitative characterization of whole crude oil. The molecular composition of various compounds in crude oil was selectively analyzed by using electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry combined with various chemical derivatization methods. Individual compounds in the crude oil were analyzed by gas chromatography. The results obtained from the different analysis methods were further processed and integrated based on normalization of elemental and group compositions. The quantitative results of 12 compound classes in four crude oils revealed the molecular compositional characteristics and their diversity of crude oils from multiple dimensions, including carbon number, double bond equivalent, and average molecular compositional parameters. The crude oils were further fractionated into four distillates and then subjected to semiquantitative characterization. The reliability of the semiquantified molecular composition of whole crude oil was evaluated and verified through two approaches: comparing the average molecular composition derived from both the whole crude oil and distillates and comparing the H/C ratio obtained from the semiquantitative molecular composition with that obtained by combustion elemental analysis. Although there are still some deviations in the semiquantitative molecular composition of whole crude oil, the results appear to be controllable and acceptable.

Composition Analysis of Bio-Oil Obtained by Fast Pyrolysis Using Comprehensive Two Dimensional Gas Chromatography with Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometric Detector

Abstract:Taking advantage of the higher peak capacity, resolution, sensitivity and selectivity of two-dimensional gas chromatography with time flight mass spectrometry detector (GCxGC/TOFMS), a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis of crude bio-oil (CB) and aged bio-oil (AB) was performed in order to analyze the chemical change during bio-oil storage. The total compounds numbers of CB and AB detected by GCxGC/TOFMS were 2728 and 2212 respectively when the signal to noise ratio (S/N) was set to 1000. And about 340 peaks (area > 0.02%) were tentatively identified. Chemical components were ranked according to their contents: ketones > phenols > furanones > acids > ester > aldehydes > furans > aromatics > alcohols > sugars. After the fast aging test of crude bio-oil, all kinds of compound content reduced. The maximum reduction was phenols, which was reduced by 0.51wt %. A structured distribution of compounds of classes was observed in the two dimensional space. The result of these biooils analyzed by GCxGC provided a detailed knowledge of their composition change during storage and bio-oils might be employed for the production of high value-added chemicals.

Abstract:Tahe crude oil is a heavy crude oil with high content of asphaltene,carbon residue,metal and high acid value.The corrosion of Tahe crude oil was investigated by the weight loss of hanging slice method.Tahe atmospheric residue after flashing was directly used as the solvent deasphalting raw mate-rial in this work.Tahe atmospheric residue was separated into six fractions and the structure parameters of the six fractions were calculated by the modified Brown-Ladner method. The results indicate that 53.89% of sulfur,86.97% of nitrogen and more than 98% of Ni and V metals exist in resin and as-phaltene.With the deterioration of the fractions,fA increases,while H?C ratio,fN and HAU?CA de-crease.There is a good correlation between the impurity removal rate under different chromatographic effluent yield and the results of solvent deasphalting process in pilot plant,indicating that the chromato-graphic separation method can be used to predict the impurity content of deasphalted oil with different yield of deasphalting process and to guide the solvent deasphalting process.

Abstract:In this paper, the oil content and corresponding components were analyzed in the samples of drying tank bottom petroleum sludges from Sinochem Xingzhong Oil Staging (Zhoushan) Co. Ltd. The composition of the oily sludge was determined by using organic solvent extraction gravimetric method (organic solvent is selected as petroleum ether, benzene, and toluene, respectively) and calcining-gravimetric method. It was found that measurement errors by using petroleum ether extraction gravimetric method and direct weight-loss method were bigger than those errors by using benzene or toluene extraction gravimetric method. During the measurement, it was also found that toluene should be recommended instead of benzene due to its lower toxicity. The measurement results show that water content, oil content and solid content by mass in the sludge were 9.8%, 25.8% (the asphaltene is accounted for 22.7% of the oil content in the sludge) and 64.4%, respectively. Also, chemical composition of the solids in the sludge was analyzed by using organic solvent extraction gravimetric method and XRD structure analysis method, then it was shown that Fe(OH)O·H2O is the main solid component in the sludge.

Abstract:Edible oil blends are composed of two or more edible oils in varying proportions, which can ensure nutritional balance compared to oils comprising a single component oil. In view of their economical and nutritional benefits, quantitative analysis of the component oils in edible oil blends is necessary to ensure the rights and interests of consumers and maintain fairness in the edible oil market. Chemometrics combined with modern analytical instruments has become a main analytical technology for the quantitative analysis of edible oil blends. This review summarizes the different oil blend design methods, instrumental techniques and chemometric methods for conducting single component oil quantification in edible oil blends. The aim is to classify and compare the existing analytical techniques to highlight suitable and promising determination methods in this field.

Abstract:In this study, we utilized ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–Q Exactive plus Orbitrap mass spectrometry (to analyze the compounds in crude oil samples from two different reservoirs and proposed a novel analytical approach. The new method encompasses three-dimensional visualization of mass spectrometry (MS) data, various multivariate statistical analyses, and a combination of multivariate statistical and conventional analytical methods. The results revealed that the differential markers of the two groups of crude oil samples were primarily concentrated in N1, N1O1, and N1O1S1 compounds, with four-ring alkaline nitrogen-containing compounds such as benzacridines and highly condensed alkaline nitrogen-containing compounds serving as the best differential markers for distinguishing the two groups of crude oil samples. Furthermore, we discussed the application value of this method in petroleum-contaminated groundwater. This method demonstrates the potential and application value of multivariate statistical methods in the analysis of high-resolution MS data of crude oil.

It is found that the nature of oil degradation would be discovered deeply only through using properties eorrelation in system viewpoint, at the same time considering sufficiently the main affect factors.

Abstract:The fishy odor of fish oil, a popular nutritional supplement, affects its quality as well as consumer acceptance and eating experience. An objective or scientific method for analyzing fish oil's olfactory characteristics is still lacking. This study examined anchovy oil to develop qualitative and quantitative approaches for identifying fishy odor components. Multiple fish oil refining samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS). Due to their significant alterations during fish oil refining, low threshold values, and distinct olfactory properties, the unsaturated aldehydes ( E )-2-pentenal and ( E , E )-2,4-heptadienal and the unsaturated ketone 1-penten-3-one may contribute to the fishy odor. Among the chemicals, ( E , E )-2,4-heptadienal was chosen as the marker for developing a method to quantify fishy odor and analyze deodorization samples using headspace solid-phase micro-extraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). The quantitative study of fishy odor in fish oil is a pioneering approach that can help improve quality assurance and refining process.
