Abstract:The electromagnetic wave absorbing property of Polyaniline (PAni)/Polystyrene (PS) composite was studied by measuring reflectivity in darkroom. The results indicated that the conductivity and electromagnetic wave absorbing property of PAni/PS composite increased with increasing content of the doped PAni. Doped PAni with fiber-like morphology has better electromagnetic wave absorbing property than that of PAni with particle-like morphology. The frequency breadth of the reflectivity below-10 dB is 6 GHz (11.6-17.6 GHz) by optimizing the electromagnetic parameters of the PAni/PS micro/nano-composite.

Abstract:We report a comparative study between two kinds of polyaniline, PANI-H3PO4 and PANI-C4H6O6. We have measured the temperature dependence of the de-conductivity sigma(dc)(T) and magnetic susceptibility chi(T)(T). The structure of polyaniline was characterized by Fourier transform infrared technique, electron-spin-resonance and X-ray diffraction. Polyaniline synthesized with phosphoric and tartaric acids leads to high magnetic susceptibility chi(T)(at T = 295 K) approximate to 10(-4) emu/mol. 2rings. The de-conductivity of both kinds of PANI shows a semiconductor behavior and follows the quasi-one-dimensional variable-range-hopping model. A comparison of the magnetic susceptibility shows greater electron localization in PANI-C4H6O6, which is in agreement with the lower conductivity at room temperature for PANI-C4H6O6.

Abstract:Conducting polymer polyaniline and insulating polymer polycarbonate composites have been prepared. Electrical conductivity can be controlled in a wide range (more than 15 orders of magnitude) by a small amount of polyaniline. This characteristic can be explained by a percolation model. That is, at the threshold concentration; the electrodes must be bridged by a conducting channel of polyaniline. The percolation threshold and critical exponent of the conductivity parallel to the film surface are different from those perpendicular to the film surface. This suggests the anisotropy of conductivity in the composite. The conductivity of a high polyaniline concentration composite is found to be stable up to 160 degrees C.

Semiconducting properties of nanofiber polyaniline organic semiconductor

Abstract:The electrical conductivity, optical and microstructure properties of the polyaniline nanofibers have been investigated. The SEM image of the polyaniline shows the formation of nanofibers with diameters of 30-50 nm and lengths, of 300-1000 nm. The electrical conductivity results indicate that the polyaniline is an organic semiconductor. The room temperature electrical conductivity of the polyaniline nanofibers was found to be 5.67x10(-4) S/cm. The electrical conductivity mechanism of the nanofibers polyaniline varies from the conduction by localized states to the conduction by extended states. In this nanofibers polymer, the current is carried by the movement of polarons partially delocalized on the polymeric structure. The optical band gap of the polymer was found to be 2.57eV of direct allowed transitions. The width of localized states for the polymer was found to be 0.30eV, which is from the conduction band edge to mobility edge.

Abstract:Conductive polyaniline was synthesized by microemulsion polymerization with aniline as mono-mer,dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid and hydrochloric acid as composite doped acid.The structure of conductive polyaniline was analyzed by FTIR.The influence of synthetic conditions on conductivity of polyaniline was dis-cussed,and the influence of organic-inorganic composite acid system on thermal stability of polyaniline was studied as well.The conductivity of polyaniline was the best when n(DBSA)∶n(HCl)was 3∶2,n(DBSA/HCl)∶n(monomer)was 2.0∶1,polymerization temperature was 20 ℃,polymerization time was 10 h.Thermal stability of conductive polyaniline had enhanced siginificantly when doped by organic-inorganic composite acid with appropriate proportion.

Abstract:Polyaniline films were deposited on the substrates of Si(100) and slides by using vacuum evaporation deposition method.HCl-doped and intrinsic polyaniline powders were used as the starting material.The as-deposited films were characterized using FT-IR and SEM.The influence of the diameter of polyaniline powders on the film morphology was also analyzed.The conductivity test indicates that the conductivity of as-deposited films is about 10-6S/cm,which can meet the need of electrostatic prevention.

Abstract:A conducting polyaniline was prepared by emulsification through H2O-toluene-DBSA system. Molar ratio of DBSA/An, (NH4)2S2O8/An, and optimal drop time of (NH4)2S2O8 were studied in this synthesis process. As to the difficult problem of post-treatment, the multiple emulsion technology was used to improve the emulsifying process. Product yield was greatly raised and post-treatment procedure was simplified. IR, XRD, TG-DTA and XPS analyses and experimental results indicated that the product was doped very well by DBSA; and the product structure was replaced by the MacDiarmid full doped state, the nitrogen atom had replaced proton completely, and the polymer had some crystalline phenomena and presented thermal stability.

Abstract:Polyaniline thin film has been prepared on paper by aniline vapor deposition technique. Ferric chloride has been used as polymerizing agent in this approach. The prepared films were studied through electrical resistivity and optical properties measurements. The electrical resistivity of the polyaniline film shows significant temperature dependence. The resistance sharply falls with the increase in temperature. The optical absorbance measurements shows characteristics absorbance peak indicating the formation of conducting emeraldine salt form of polyaniline. The optical energy band gap of the film was calculated from the transmittance spectra. The optical energy band gap and electrical conductivity of the polyaniline film is well suited for their applications in electronic devices.

Abstract:Abstract Polymers as they are known as molecules formed by repetition of small molecules known as monomers, polymers that are often used cannot conduct electricity. Along with the development of the polymer era at this time can also conduct electricity known as conductive polymers. One of the conductive polymers that attracts attention is polyaniline. Synthesis of polyaniline conductive polymers is carried out with aniline monomers mixed with Ethylene Glycol Dimetacrylate (EGDMA) as Crosslinkers , and Dimethoxy phenylacetophenone (DMPP) as the initiator. In this reasearch, the polymerization processed with the photopolymerization method with a mixture of Aniline (mL), DMPP (0.1 g), and EGDMA (mL) polymerized with photopolymer. The polymers obtained were tested for electrical conductivity, the composition which showed optimum conductivity was in the ratio of aniline and EGDMA 1 : 1 with the electrical conductivity of 0.001462 Ohm.cm −1 . The conductivity measurement is done by using Four Point Probe (FPP) and other characterization measurements using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and TGA (Thermo-gravimetric Analysis).

Abstract:With the purpose of ameliorating the electrical property, permittivity and magnetoresistance of polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers, three types of phenylenediamine (PDA), including o-PDA, m-PDA, and p-PDA, and different contents of PDA have been incorporated into the PANI polymer backbone by the interfacial copolymerization of aniline with PDA. The results demonstrate that different types and contents of PDAs could disclose the distinct effects on the chemical structures, crystalline structures, and morphologies for copolymers of aniline with PDA affirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The molecular weight of all copolymers is reduced by several orders of magnitude relative to pure PANI nanofibers confirmed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The resistivity variations for the copolymers of aniline with different types of PDAs are well explained from the point view of their molecular structures based on the first-principle simulations (i.e. intrachain electrical conductivity) and degree of crystallinity gained from XRD (i.e. interchain electrical conductivity). A tunable room-temperature magnetoresistance (MR) and a controllable negative permittivity are discovered in the copolymers of aniline with different types and contents of PDAs. This work provides a new insight for the manipulation of electrical transport for PANI nanofibers and helps seek the new applications of conductive polymer.

Abstract:The PANI-NiO composites were synthesized by employing an in situ chemical polymerization technique, with varying weight percentages of NiO dopant (PANI-5%NiO and PANI-10%NiO). Additionally, AC conductivity, dielectric constant and dielectric loss were investigated within a frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz. XRD confirmed the phase purity and high crystallinity. SEM reveals the granular shape with a porous surface. In addition, the incorporation of NiO with different concentrations influences the composite's dielectric properties. All samples exhibited frequency-dependent dielectric properties in line with the Maxwell–Wagner model. Notably, the AC conductivity of PANI-10% NiO composite increased as the frequency increased, this behaviour was certified with Jonscher's power law. The I–V characteristics confirm the ohmic nature of all synthesized samples. Therefore, the potential of PANI and PANI-NiO composites, as efficient dielectric materials, has been explored and can be useful for device applications in diverse fields.

Abstract:Abstract Two distinc conducting polyaniline phases are found in the solution and in solid state. These two phases were characterized by their optical spectra, X-ray diffraction patterns and electrical conductivities. The solid state properties of polyaniline processed from solution are determined by the conformation of PANI chains in solution which, in turn, is determined by the interaction between the PANI chain, the counter-ion, solvent and the co-solvent.

Abstract:The effect of ZrO 2 nanoparticles on the structural, electrical, and dielectric properties of polyaniline was studied. ZrO 2 nanoparticles with an average size of 8 nm were synthesized by a simple precipitation method and their tetragonal and monoclinic crystalline phase was confirmed. Polyaniline and its nanocomposite with ZrO 2 have been synthesized by chemical oxidation method using CH 3 COOH as a doping agent and APS as an oxidant. The synthesized composites were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, AC conductivity, dielectric and impedance spectroscopy. In Nyquist plots, systematic decrement in the semicircle size was observed with growth of ZrO 2 content. The dielectric constant in the PANI/ZrO 2 composite has been increased with an increase in weight content of ZrO 2 in PANI matrix and exhibited the Maxwell–Wagner–Sillars effect.

Abstract:We report the electrical properties of a single conducting polyaniline nanotube measured by a standard four-terminal technique. Camphor sulfonic acid doped polyaniline nanotubes were self-assembled by a template-free method. The directly measured conductivity of the single polyaniline nanotube is very high (∼31.4 S/cm), and its temperature dependence follows the three-dimensional variable range hopping model. However, the bulk conductivity of the polyaniline nanotube pellets is much smaller than the nanotube itself (only 3.5×10−2 S/cm) and ln ρ(T) is linear in T−1/2, which is due to the large intertubular contact resistance. These results will help us to understand the conduction mechanism in conducting polymers.

Abstract:In this study, the dielectric properties of poly(arylene ether nitrile) (PEN) were effectively improved by the incorporation of conducting polyaniline (PANI). Sulfuric acid doped PANI was prepared and incorporated into the PEN matrix as additives by using the solution-casting method. The micro-morphologies, mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties of the obtained PANI/PEN nanocomposites were investigated in detail. SEM observation showed that the PANI phase is homogeneously dispersed in the PEN matrix. The obtained PANI/PEN nanocomposites showed good thermal stability as the glass transition temperatures and initial decomposition temperatures of them are higher than 190 and 270 °C. The dielectric constant of the composites was significantly improved after the introduction of PANI, and the dielectric constant of the composite PANI/PEN100 reaches 23.5 (250 Hz), with an increment of 650 % when 10 wt% of PANI is introduced. The temperature dependencies of dielectric constant measurement showed that the dielectric constant of the PANI/PEN composites is stable before 180 °C and these composites can be long-term used at high temperature for their good reversibility and robustness during the heating and cooling scans. These PANI/PEN composites will be a potential candidate as high performance electronic devices materials used at high temperature.

Abstract:By using a suitably functionalized acid to polyaniline, the base form of polyaniline, the counter ion can induce processibility of the resulting PANI complex. Thus, polyaniline can be processed in its conducting form from the melt and/or from a wide variety of common organic solvents, such as decalin, xylene, chloroform and m-cresol, etc. The resulting conducting polyaniline can be processed neat or in blends with common, insulating bulk polymers to enable the fabrication of thin films, sheets, fibers, transparent conductive films, bulk parts, etc. These materials exhibit relatively high levels of electrical conductivity at low volume fractions of the polyaniline complex, while maintaining excellent mechanical properties. essentially equivalent to those of the host bulk polymer.

Abstract:Polyaniline (PANI) was synthesized by oxidative polymerization under different amounts of ammonia persulfate (APS) versus aniline (ANI). The effects of APS/ANI molar ratio on yield and structure of polymer were studied. Three kinds of dopants, such as hydrochloric acid (HCI), p -toluene sulfonic acid (TSA) and ferric chloride (FC) were used to dope PANI emeraldine base. The effect of concentration of dopant solution on doping level,electric conductivity and thermal stability of doped polyaniline was studied by Fourie transform infrared (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was shown that when n (APS)/ n (ANI) reached 0.8～1.0, the yield increased and conductivity of PANI reached an appropriate value, the oxidation state of EB increased with the increase of n (APS)/ n (ANI). The sequence of electric conductivity of doped PANI decreased as PANI-HCl, PANI-TSA and PANI-FC.However, PANI-TSA had the highest thermal stability and was more promising for application.
