Abstract:Mobile agent technology is a new distributed computation paradigm. With its potential power, the technology aroused a great interest and experienced a rapid development in the last ten years. Various mobile agent systems were made for different targets and were implemented in different means. It is necessary to explore the current mobile agent systems and to summarize the implementation technologies for further research. In this paper a comprehensive explanation of mobile agent systems is given. First the definition and peculiarities of mobile agents and mobile agent systems are stated. Its advantages are enumerated. Then eight representative mobile agent systems are surveyed and the design issues about mobile agent programming language, mobility, communication, fault tolerance and security are discussed. Finally, the deficiencies and the trends of mobile agent technology are pointed out.

Abstract:Mobile agents are regarded as the future of distributed computing. They are promising to offer a unified and scalable framework for applications in widely distributed heterogeneous open networks, such as electronic commerce, parallel computing and information retrieval. This chapter focuses on the underlying transportation layer of interagent communication and is concerned solely with the delivery of opaque application data to a target agent, which is closer to the tradition of research on distributed systems. It argues the importance of remote communications between mobile agents. The chapter presents an analysis of the requirements of message delivery protocols for mobile agents. Abstract:With the unprecedented development of Internet/Intranet, mobile computing environment has become the main trends of large scale distributed computing. But traditional fixed network connection is becoming the bottleneck to the development of distributed computing and reduces the efficiency of large scale computing. Using advanced concepts and mobile Agent model has become a key solution to this problem. Above all,this paper presents the background of the research, and then presents the architecture of mobile Agent under the environment of mobile computing. At the same time, the definition,principle,application evaluation and the experiment result of this advanced architecture are discussed and analyzed in detail. Finally, the paper shows the effectiveness of this architecture to today's WWW system.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the simulation of Finite State mobile agent, which regards the migration, execution, and searching of the mobile agents as finite states. As the finite state mobile agents are deployed under the virtual organization platform, the corresponding search algorithm in virtual organization is also introduced. The experiments results based on the finite mobile agent’s evaluation model show the finite mobile agents can achieve satisfied performance.

Abstract:Mobile agent is a new kind of network computing paradigm in the field of distributed computing. Because of its distinguished advantages, such as asynchrony,autonomy,mobility,mobile agent is likely to become the dominant approach in network applications. However,with the popu1arity of mobile agent technology,more and more challenges come from those possible security threats in mobile agent systems. Starting from a detailed analysis of these security threats on mobile agent systems,we describe and compare the primary countermeasures for mobile agent security. Some representative mobile agent systems are introduced and their security mechanisms are evaluated.

Abstract:Mobile Agent is a type of software system which acts "intelligently" on one's behalf with the feature of autonomy, learning ability and most importantly mobility. Now mobile agents are gaining interest in the research community. In this article mobile agents will be addressed as tools for mobile computing. Mobile agents have been used in applications ranging from network management to information management. We present mobile agent concept, characteristics, classification, need, applications and technical constraints in the mobile technology. We also provide a brief case study about how mobile agent is used for information retrieval.

Abstract:An overview of security problems in mobile Agent system is presented. Threats in mobile Agent system include varying attacks to Agents, Agent hosts and communication. The security objectives can be summarized in terms of confidentiality, auth-orization, accountability and availability. Later the security of two dominating mobile Agent programming language: Java and TCL is discussed. A series of measures are also given for countering the identified threats and fulfilling these security objectives.

However, Mobile Agents System (MAS) varies greatly from them. In MAS, agent can migrant from host to host([3]). This character differs lot in system design([4]). Abstract:An effective communication and migration algorithm for mobile agent on the virtual organization was presented based on the characteristics of the virtual organization. The algorithm was established on the finite state mobile agent computation model. All the actions (e. g. service, migration and communica-tion etc.) of the mobile agents were treated as states. The process of the mobile agents' workflow was controlled by a finite state machine, which can guarantee the atomicity of each mobile agent in terms of sequential logic. By introducing the virtual organizational based mailbox mechanism, the algorithm realized highly efficient communication and migration among multiple mobile agents, and the communication mis-match issues under current network conditions can be sorted effectively. Experimental results shown that the algorithm is more effective in both the mismatch of migration and service available compared with the existed algorithm. The algorithm increases the robustness and intelligence of mobile agent and overcomes the serious weakness of large amount of data transmission existing in the strong-migration mode agent systems.

Abstract:Mobile agent computing paradigm has been considered to be promising in Internet computing. However,its wide acceptance is hindered by the monolithic and “black box” design of mobile agent system. Such kind of design makes mobile agent systems difficult to adapt to the evolving computing environment and user requirements by dynamically adjusting their structure and behavior. In this paper,a lightweight framework of mobile agent system is introduced with the help of reflection technology. By this means,the mobile agent system is structured as an open set of components which can be customized and tailored according to current needs. The open implementation techniques presented in this paper enable the mobile agent system to dynamically load/unload specific modules during runtime without shutting down the system. Eventually,self-adaptation of the agent applications is naturally realized via the reflection of the agents and the underlying system. A prototypical system called “Artemis-Mogent” is implemented as a proof of the approach. An experiment is also carried out to demonstrate the effects of reflection.

Abstract:Mobile agent and Web service are promising new technologies with bright future, and have wide application in aspect of scientific study as well as in engineering industry. Meanwhile they both have deficiencies. The paper first analyzes the similarities and differences between these two technologies by a typical example, then engages in an attempt to integrate these two techniques into a totally new technology, called agenice(agent and service),a kind of intelligent service. There are three aspects' discussion: (1) VM and IL, translate the agent classes that are programmed by other languages such as Java to interface language for running on multi-OS and multi-platform; (2) AML, the angenice description language based on semantics; (3) Mobility, the way to transfer agenices code and state.

Concurrency and Computation Practice and Experience

Abstract:The mobile agent technique has been broadly used in next generation distributed systems. The system performance measurement and simulation are required before the system can be deployed on a large scale. In this paper, we address performance analysis on a finite state mobile agent prototype on the basis of Virtual Hierarchical Tree Grid Organizations (VIRGO). The finite states refer to the migration, execution, and searching of the mobile agent. We introduce a novel evaluation model for the finite state mobile agent. The experimental results based on this evaluation model show that the finite mobile agents can perform well under multiple agent conditions and are superior to the traditional client/server approach. Abstract:The Mobile Agent is thought to be the popular computing model for the next generation's distributed sys-tem. The mobile agent has the following key features: autonomy, collaboration, security and especially mobility. Agood communication model for mobile agents cooperation is also necessary. In this article, after describing the maincommunication mechanisms, we analyze the methods to solve Agent Tracking and Communication Failure and makeclassification. We also propose a reliable and efficient mechanism named MEFS which uses Detecting methods andthen analyze its performance by giving the experimental data at the end.

Abstract:Mobile agent has developed for decade, and widely implemented in distribute computation. However, traditional mobile agents including strong-migration and weak-migration mobile agents still have some weakness. With the fabric of Grid virtual organization architecture, the mobile agent has gain great advantage comparing to those old mobile agents system. In this paper, a novel formalized mobile agent computation model based on the virtual organization is presented. In this model, all the actions of the mobile agents are treated as states. The process of the mobile agents' workflow is controlled by a finite-state-machine. This ensures the atomic action for each mobile agent to avoid the abnormal condition of communication mismatch. This model takes full advantages of strong-migration mode agent, such as robustness and intelligence; it can also overcome the serious weakness of large amount of data transmission existing in the strong-migration mode agent systems.
