Abstract:In order to investigate the soil-pipe interaction during tunnelling, lab model tests were carried out with the Yangtze River sand filled in a custom-built model box, in which the model continuous pipeline(made of HDPE) was buried. The results showed that the behavior of pipeline was negative downdrag in the middle, but positive downdrag at both ends; The influence zone extended three times the diameter of the pipeline in sand;the ratio of pipeline to soil deformation curvature was gradually decreased, whereas bending moment and strains of pipeline increased with the increasing of ground loss; The value of additional load on the pipeline increased and the earth pressure under pipeline reduced to zero in the middle of pipeline, while with the increase of ground loss, the gap width grew bigger to be a constant. It was clear that the relationship between the width coefficient, the largest settlement and the ratio of buried depth to diameter of pipeline, and a computing formula was put forward for the relative pipe-soil bending rigidity based on the tested results.
