Abstract:Steel corrosion is the major form of failure of durability of concrete structures. The durability monitoring for concrete structure and its repair research are two urgent and necessary tasks, and the former provides the basis for the latter. For concrete durability monitoring, with the development of corrosion processes, environmental factors in the concrete (saturation, temperature, and so on) and the corrosion rate changing will have an effect on steel corrosion polarization dynamics. This paper reviewed some widely used foreign durability monitoring sensors for the reinforced concrete, and discussed the negative and positive aspects of them. Also, this paper introduced some newly developed domestic sensors which may be more suitable used in extra high-humidity and low-humidity environment. For concrete durability restoration, the improvement of technique for reinforced concrete structure durability can be considered from three aspects "prevention", "resistance" and "treatment". As to the "treatment", electrochemical rehabilitation is regarded as the only effective method to stop steel corrosion. This paper reviewed the traditional repair and electrochemical method for the reinforced concrete, and introduced cathodic protection, realkalisation of reinforced concrete, electro-deposition method, electrochemical chloride extraction (ECE) and electro-migration anticorrosion technology. The effect and principle of these method were discussed. Most importantly, this paper put out the concept of bi-directional electro-migration rehabilitation (BIEM), and introduced the principle, research state and technical difficulties of BIEM.
