Abstract:The factors influencing the flow rate in hot water heating system in residential building with heat metering systems using thermostatically controlled radiator valves were analyzed by modeling the building heating system.The main factors affecting the flow rates are the solar radiation,the outdoor temperature,and consumer behavior for district heating systems with a constant water supply temperature.The calculational results show that during a typical day in Beijing the relative flow rate fluctuations are about 30% in buildings where consumers do not adjust the thermostats and from 60% to 90% when 50% of the consumers in the building adjust the thermostats according to a schedule.

Abstract:Charging heating fees based on floor space in China leaves building developers no economic returns on the investment to weatherize the buildings and install regulation devices with terminal equipment. Therefore, they lack incentives to improve the thermal insulation properties of the buildings. Tenants also lack incentives to efficiently use heat, opening windows to cool down rooms when they are overheated, without concern for the amount of heat wasted. In response, over the past decade, the Chinese government has invested large amounts of resources in an effort to promote energy conservation with heating systems by trying to change the fee method based on floor space to amount of heat used, but with little effect. The major issues related to reform with the heat-metering system are elaborated in this paper by comparing the pros and cons of several metering methods. Firstly, room temperatures are unable to be effectively adjusted using the current methods, meaning that the original intention to save energy cannot be achieved. Secondly, current heat-metering methods are not acceptable to users, which creates its own problems. Heat metering based on households in apartment buildings, the primary living space for Chinese people, causes two problems: the energy consumed by households located at the top or at the corner of buildings is two to three times higher than households located elsewhere within the building; heating fees may increase by 20–30% if surrounding households are not heated. Current metering methods are unable to effectively resolve these two problems, therefore, they are not accepted.

Abstract:Heat metering is an important measure of China's heating marketization reform as well as an energy-saving policy implemented in buildings nearly 20 years ago. However, this policy has not achieved the expected results due to various reasons. It is important to note that although northern China is dominated by large apartment buildings, resulting in unique thermal characteristics and user behavior, the measured results of these characteristics are not common. In this study, data from cities in northern China were obtained using household heat meters and field testing. Based on the three levels of station, building, and household, the effects of location, heat outages, and users' regulation behavior on energy consumption were analyzed. The results show that different locations lead to a considerable difference in heat consumption among users, and an outage leads to a significant increase in consumption by surrounding users. For typical buildings in northern China, it is challenging to realize energy savings with district heating systems based on user behavior, and household metering and charging are not fair and reliable. Adjusting the heat meter unit from the household to the building was suggested.

Abstract:The different domestic hot-water systems in student villages of Zhejiang University were analyzed.The heat emission per capita was calculated and compared with the measured result.The reason for the difference between the both was analyzed.The difference in heat emission of different domestic hot-water systems was summarized.The comparison between the heat emission and heat consumption was made.It is concluded that a pipe network with surface area per capita will not operate well because of a larger heat emission.

Abstract:Based on the test of variable flow rate and investigation of consumer's behavior regulation in a household heat metering quarter,analyses the main factors influencing flow rate and concludes that window opening is the most important factor for the individuals with thermostatic radiator valve's self-control,that consumers frequent and long-term adjustment results in short-term step change and long period change of flow rate separately,that due to coupling interaction the individual flow rate is influenced by others' regulation and the effect of individual regulation on holistic flow rate change is weakened,and that concurrence rate is involved in the integrated impact from individual change to the whole.Estimates the flow rate change of the quarter and the result well agrees with the measured values.

Abstract:In this paper,investigation was carried out on consumers' dynamic behavior in a residential district with household heat-metering system in Tianjin. The mainly factors that would influence consumers' behavior,including temperature,heat supply situation and life custom,were firstly analyzed.Secondly,from the aspects of valve-adjustment style and space and time distributions,the concept of concurrence rate was put forward,the variety,uncertainty and regularity of consumers' dynamic behavior were described,and also the proportion of different adjustment styles according to weather,activity and room function was presented.Finally,it was pointed out that the consumers' behavior of energy-saving would be inspired by the new charge system,and meanwhile some existed problems were discussed.

Abstract:Abstract Heat metering and charging can help raise residents’ awareness of energy conservation and save heat consumption in buildings. The heat metering and charging in China, however, was promoted insignificantly. To explore the behavior mechanism of heat-supply enterprises implementing heat metering and charging under the background of complex network in China’s heating region, and put forward the promotion strategies of heat metering and charging, this paper uses the heat-supply enterprises as the sample, improves the utility function of heat-supply enterprises by considering their difference aversion preference and altruistic preference at the same time based on the Difference Averse Surplus Maximizer Model. Then, we establish a complex network evolutionary game model among different heat-supply enterprises, and an empirical analysis is conducted to examine the impact of different factor on heat-supply enterprises in China’s heating region to implement heat metering and charging. The conclusions are as follows: (1) With the current heating cost and income, even if the government subsidizes all environmental benefit generated by heat metering and charging to heat-supply enterprises, the heat metering and charging could not be promoted in different scales of networks. (2) Increasing metering heat price, government fine, environmental protection tax and carbon emission trading price have positive effects on the promotion of heat metering and charging in different scales of networks. (3) The value of metering heat price, government fine, environmental protection tax and carbon emission trading price have no significant impacts on the evolutionary speeds of different scales of networks.

Influencing Factors on Infiltration Rate of Heating Rooms in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Zone

Abstract:The flow rate of air infiltration and corresponding influencing factors were measured and analyzed. The air exchange rates with different heating methods and temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor air were tested in the experiment room by using the tracer gas method. The test results show that the air exchange rate in heating room increases by 35%-40% compared with that without heating when the temperature difference between the room and the outside reaches 6-8 °C under the same conditions of the airtightness of doors and windows. As to the influence of the heating methods on the air exchange rate, it is slightly larger when the room is heated by supplying hot air than that in the room with radiant floor heating methods. The increase in the air infiltration caused by space heating should be considered when designing the residential heating system in this region.

Abstract:Large amounts of actual measured meteorological data of 20 typical cities in hot summer and cold winter zone in China between 1971 and 2003 were analyzed.There exist wide differences in climatic conditions among cities in this climate region, as reflected in many aspects like the average temperature and diurnal range in coldest(hottest) month, the number of days in which the daily average temperature was less than or equal to 5 ℃ (higher than or equal to 25 ℃), the heating and cooling degree day, etc.The reasonability of calculation periods set by three existing relevant standards in China was investigated, and a new defining method of calculation period was proposed based on actual measured meteorological data and discreteness analysis.The results of energy consumption simulation for residential buildings with the Design Builder software indicate that different calculation periods not only affect the total heating and cooling consumption simulation result, but also change the ratio of them.

Abstract:Performs the test and analysis in a residential quarter with household heat metering system on the basis of different space and time scales.The results show that the flow rate of users varies considerably with a maximal changing range of relative flow rate from 0 to 100 percent;that the changing range decreases along with the enlargement of space scale from end-users to buildings and stations;that the fluctuation of relative flow rate of stations is less than 2.5 percent in an hour,5 percent in a day and 10 percent in a controlled period and presents a step changing trend during a whole heating season because of the pressure differential control;and that the pump consumption is related with the set value of differential pressure.

Abstract:The rapid growth of energy demand in China’s central heating sector and the large differences in regions have posed challenges to its energy supply safety, which affected the progress of China’s energy transformation. From a supply chain perspective, this study uses the feasible generalized least squares method to conduct empirical research on the central heating data of 17 provinces in China from 2006 to 2017. The results shows that the main factors of central heating includes energy consumption structure, heat generation method, heat transport carrier, heating degree days and heating area; The main factor that increases the energy consumption of central heating in each province is the same, namely Heating area (HA). However, the main factors that reduce energy consumption in each province are different; using gas instead of coal for clean heating can reduce some greenhouse gas emissions while bringing huge gas supply pressure. According to the results, this study provides some policy suggestions.

Abstract:In a district heating and cooling system, for example the Beijing combined heating, cooling and power (CHCP) system studied here, high temperature water generated by cogeneration plants circulates through a network between the plants and the heating substations. In heating substations, high temperature supply water from the network drives absorption chillers for air-conditioning in the summer, satisfies space heating demands in the winter and provides domestic hot water using heat exchangers throughout the year. This paper studies the significant effect of the parameters, i.e. the supply and return water temperatures in the network, on the CHCP system energy consumption for cooling and for domestic hot water.

Abstract:Analyses the main reasons for lower heating efficiency and over high operating energy consumption in the central heating systems and discusses current heating reform turning unit building area based charging system into household heat metering and charging.Considers that it may not suitable for Chinese living situations.It should be taken to measure the heat on every building heat entrance and allocate the cost to each household according to its building area.This fashion can prompt envelop thermal insulation improvement,and be possible in technological and economical aspects.In order to solve the unbalance problem and increase the system efficiency of central heating,proposes installing mixing pumps or heat exchangers at the heat entrance of each building."Large circulation flow rate with small temperature difference and low supply temperature" can be used to operate in the building internal system and "small circulation flow rate with large temperature difference" can then be used in the central heating network outside buildings,so that solve the unbalance problem in central heating systems caused by poor matched radiators,existence of indoor heat source and uneven circulation flow rate,and increase system efficiency much more.

Abstract:Industrial steam heating is a significant aspect of energy consumption in China, playing a crucial role in industrial energy efficiency. Historically, demand response research has predominantly focused on the electricity sector, with limited emphasis on steam supply. This study explores a novel Time-of-Use pricing approach for steam heating systems, anchored in the demand response theory of price incentives. It develops a peak-valley segmentation method by considering both the load differences between supply and demand and the thermal storage capacity of the pipeline system. Additionally, the paper delves into user response characteristics to formulate an optimized Time-of-Use pricing model for steam heating systems. Implemented in a Jiangsu-based case study, the model demonstrates significant efficiency improvements: it reduces the peak-valley load difference by up to 68.3% and cuts steam purchasing costs by ¥135,000. Furthermore, the alignment between the users' total steam load curve and the heat source's steam supply is enhanced by 18.8%, illustrating the model's effectiveness in balancing demand and supply.
