Abstract:Structures and properties of complex materials for nano-coating layers are an important subject in the field of nano-science and technology. A new concept of the fabrication technology is focused on to discuss, as well as the perfect rules of nano-materials, developmental trend of nano-coating materials and the properties of field emission. Furthermore, the two problems which are regarded as the key points to the study on theoretical physics are discussed, ie. the electron strong correlation system and the soft condensation matter. The profound theoretic aspects of the science and technology of coating materials and the importance of their future applications are thus elucidated.

Abstract:Coating is a kind of decorative material with decorative function, protection function, adjustment function, and various special functions. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of people’s material living standards, the relationship between environmental protection and health, environment and future development, and environment and nature has been increasingly deepened. The coating industry has developed rapidly in recent years. Nanomaterials have received much attention for their unique physical and chemical properties. Using nanomaterials to modify traditional coatings is a way to rapidly improve the development of the coating industry. In this paper, the properties and preparation technology of nano-TiO2 and nano-ZnO are reviewed, the photocatalytic mechanism of TiO2 and ZnO nanomaterials is discussed, and the two are applied in traditional coating systems to develop nanocomposite coatings. The nano-TiO2 and nano-ZnO components were added to the pure acrylic and silicon acrylic coatings according to a certain proportion to explore the influence of different proportions of nanomaterials on the performance of the above coatings. The results showed a significant improvement in the main performance of the coating at the addition amount of 0.4%. Overall, the modification effect of the nanocomposite component was the most significant, and the nano-ZnO was better than the nano-TiO2, and silicon propylene paint is better performance than pure propylene paint. The ratio of coating pairs prepared in the experiment was 0.98, the brush resistance number was 1990, the adhesion level was level 1, and the reflectance was decreased by 8.58%. The introduction of functional nanomaterials can significantly improve the contrast ratio, scrub resistance, and adhesion of coatings.

Based on the functional effects of nano-materials in architectural paints,this article introduces the influences of using nano-titanium dioxide,silica,zinc oxide,calcium carbonate,silver,iron oxide,and several other important species on the performance of water based pigment paste. It expatiates on the method and technology of the production,the stability theory of pigment paste,the preparation of all-nano and nanocomposite pigment paste,and the comprehensive performance optimization of adding a certain proportion of nano-filler in the paste system. Besides,this article focuses on the influences of the wetting decentralized system on nano-pigment paste.

Abstract:Coating materials serve the purposes to protect, enhance and/or confer additional functionalities and properties to the underlying object surface or bulk materials. In recent years, nanotechnologies have been extensively incorporated into the functional coatings as manipulation of materials at the nanoscale can impart some unique chemical, mechanical, thermal, surface and photophysical properties that can be exploited to enhance functions required in urban built environments. In this review paper, recent research progresses of several categories of functional coatings were summarized with emphasis on their applications for green and smart buildings. These included hydrophobic coatings, hydrophilic and photocatalytic coatings, coatings for reduction in surface solar radiation as well as phase change materials (PCM) coatings. This review aims to provide a general introduction and research progress on these selected functional coating technologies, starting from the material's fabrication to its application when used in different building components.

Abstract:Nanocomposite coatings and their potential applications are described in detail.Some results achieved in our lab are also briefly presented in systems such as high solid acrylic based polyurethane/nano-SiO2,high solid polyester based polyurethane/nano-SiO2 and waterborne polyacrylate/nano-SiO2 or nano-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings.It is found that application of nanoparticles in organic coatings is valuable for developing a series of high performance coatings.

Abstract:<p>Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) have exhibited wide applications in the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, energy storage, environmental science, biomedicine, and others due to their unique structure, function, and properties. In this review, we present recent advance in the production and applications of various CNF-based nanomaterials. The methods for the production of CNFs are introduced firstly, and then different structures of CNFs related to corresponding synthesis methods are analyzed. In addition, the functional tailoring of CNFs by combining with other nanoscale building blocks such as nanoparticles, quantum dots, carbon materials, biomolecules, and others are demonstrated and discussed. Finally, the potential application of the CNF-based functional nanomaterials in the fields of supercapacitors, chemical batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, environmental adsorbents, sensors, biosensors, tissue engineering, antibacterial materials, electromagnetic interference shielding, and sharp memory materials are introduced and discussed in detail. It is expected this comprehensive review will not only help the readers to obtain the preliminary information on the production, modification, and applications of CNFs, but also promote the design and synthesis of novel CNF-based nanostructures and nanomaterials for advanced applications.</p>

Abstract:The rapid development in nanotechnology has necessitated accurate and efficient assembly strategies for nanomaterials. Monolayer assembly of nanomaterials (MAN) represents an extreme challenge in manufacturing and is critical in understanding interactions among nanomaterials, solvents, and substrates. MAN enables highly tunable performance in electronic and photonic devices. This review summarizes the recent progress on the methods to achieve MAN and discusses important control factors. Moreover, the importance of MAN is elaborated by a broad range of applications in electronics and photonics. In the end, we outlook the opportunities as well as challenges in manufacturing and new applications.

Abstract:The work aims to review the current research achievements and development trend of nano-coating on the substrate for ink-jet printing. The composition, curing mechanism, physico-chemical properties and optical performance of nano-coating on the surface for ink-jet printing were introduced based on the research achievements of surface nano-coating at home and abroad in recent years. Furthermore, the development trend and challenge of nano-coating for ink-jet printing were summarized and analyzed. The surface nano-coating could change the physical structure and chemical composition of surfaces of the material and its products. In the process of ink-jet printing, the quality of nano-coating on the surface of substrate for ink-jet printing directly affected the quality of prints. The discussion of performance, research status, development trend, challenge and other aspects of the nano-coating for ink-jet printing herein provided suggestions on the relevant researches and applications of nano-coating for ink-jet printing. Inkjet printing, as a typical digital imaging technology, can achieve the products with personalized and diversified images. To obtain perfectly reproduced product, the chemical composition or physical structure of the substrate surface should be optimized. The surface composition and organizational structure of the material and its products can be changed by the technology of surface coating. Therefore, it is significant to study the nano-coating on the surface of substrate for ink-jet printing.

Progress in Organic Coatings

Abstract:Nano-modified composite coatings have illustrated a promising prospect for protecting cement-based material due to their excellent functional properties. This paper reviews the theoretical research and application progress of nanomaterial modification in the field of cement-based protective coatings in recent years, mainly at the two primary levels of fabrication procedure and functional regulation. By comparing the findings of the various functions of nano-modified coatings, the mechanisms inherent in nanomaterials affecting the physical and chemical properties of coating substrates are analyzed. Furthermore, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the existing shortages and challenges of nanomaterial-modified coatings for cement-based materials, clarifies the theoretical and technical issues that need to be addressed, and proposes the future development trends and potential directions. This review provides academic and technical guidance for the synthesis of high-performance and multifunctional protective coatings for cement-based materials while creating new ideas for improving the durability and functionality of concrete.

Abstract:Organic-inorganic(O/I) nanocomposite coatings have been developed very quickly in recent years and are gradually becoming one of the most active areas in coatings' research. This review classifies the preparation methods into three categories: embedding with nanoparticles, sot-gel process and self-assembly method. All these three routes are systematically discussed including the factors influencing the structure and properties of nanocomposite coatings. Some evaluations and suggestions are given for each method.
