Abstract:The decomposition of CaC2O4 was investigated by means of thermogravimetry/Fourier transform infrared spectrometry/mass spectrometry (TG/FTIR/MS).The evolved gas was studied qualitatively and quantitatively by changing the sample weight and the oxygen content of atmosphere. The co-evolution of CO and CO2 was observed during both decomposition processes of CaC2O4 under inert atmosphere. The CO2 gas co-evolved with CO derives from the disproportion and oxidation of CO,while the CO gas coevolved with CO2 from the gasification of carbon, produced by the disproportion of CO,with CO2.Both disproportion and gasification are remarkably influenced by the content of the residue oxygen in the system. These two reactions cannot be detected when the concentration of oxygen is above 38 × 10-6 and a negative peak on MS signal with m/z 32 appears.
