Abstract:The orthogonal decomposition of the Webster curvature provides us a way to characterize some canonical metrics on a pseudo-Hermitian manifold. We derive some subelliptic differential inequalities from the Weitzenböck formulas for the traceless pseudo-Hermitian Ricci tensor of Sasakian manifolds with constant pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature and the Chern–Moser tensor of the Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds, respectively. By means of either subelliptic estimates or maximum principle, some rigidity theorems are established to characterize Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds among Sasakian manifolds with constant pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature and Sasakian space forms among Sasakian pseudo-Einstein manifolds, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:We prove that if $M^n(n\ge 4)$ is a compact Einstein manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy pinching condition $R_0>\sigma _{n}K_{\max }$, where $\sigma _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on $n$, then $M$ must be isometric to a spherical space form. Moreover, we prove that if an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein manifold satisfies $K_{\min }\ge \eta _n R_0,$ where $\eta _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is locally symmetric. It should be emphasized that the pinching constant $\eta _n$ is optimal when $n$ is even. We then obtain some rigidity theorems for Einstein manifolds under $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature pinching conditions. Finally we extend the theorems above to Einstein submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold, and prove that if $M$ is an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein submanifold in the simply connected space form $F^{N}(c)$ with constant curvature $c\ge 0$, and the normalized scalar curvature $R_0$ of $M$ satisfies $R_0>\frac{A_n}{A_n+4n-8}(c+H^2),$ where $A_n=n^3-5n^2+8n$, and $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$, then $M$ is isometric to a standard $n$-sphere.

Abstract:The geometry of nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds of constant holomorphic sectional curvature is studied in this paper. It is proved that a harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian Einstein manifold is a manifold of non-positive scalar curvature, and, in the case of zero scalar curvature, it is locally equivalent to the product of a Ricci-flat nearly Kählerian manifold and the real line. Expressions for the Riemannian curvature and Ricci tensors are obtained. We show that a harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifold is a space of a constant curvature k=−χ2 if and only if it is canonically concircular to the manifold Cn×R equipped with the canonical cosymplectic structure. It is also proved that there are no harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds of constant positive curvature. The full classification of harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds of constant Φ-holomorphic sectional curvature is given.

Rigidity Theorems of Complete Kähler-Einstein Manifolds and Complex Space Forms

Abstract:We concentrate on using the traceless Ricci tensor and the Bochner curvature tensor to study the rigidity problems for complete Kähler manifolds. We derive some elliptic differential inequalities from Weitzenb¨ock formulas for the traceless Ricci tensor of Kähler manifolds with constant scalar curvature and the Bochner tensor of Kähler-Einstein manifolds respectively. Using elliptic estimates and maximum principle, several L p and L ∞ pinching results are established to characterize Kähler-Einstein manifolds among Kähler manifolds with constant scalar curvature and complex space forms among Kähler-Einstein manifolds. Our results can be regarded as a complex analogues to the rigidity results for Riemannian manifolds. Moreover, our main results especially establish the rigidity theorems for complete noncompact Kähler manifolds and noncompact Kähler-Einstein manifolds under some pointwise pinching conditions or global integral pinching conditions. To the best of our knowledge, these kinds of results have not been reported.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the rigidity for an n(≥ 4) -dimensional submanifold M^n with parallel mean curvature in the space form 𝕄^n+p_c when the integral Ricci curvature of M has some bound. We prove that, if c+H^2>0 and ‖Ric_-^λ‖ _n/2< ϵ (n,c, λ , H) for λ satisfying n-2n-1 (c+H^2) < λ≤ c+H^2 , then M is the totally umbilical sphere 𝕊^n( 1√(c+H^2)) . Here H is the norm of the parallel mean curvature of M , and ϵ (n,c,λ , H) is a positive constant depending only on n, c,λ and H . This extends part of the earlier work of Xu and Gu (Geom Funct Anal 23(5):1684–1703, 2013) from pointwise Ricci curvature lower bound to integral Ricci curvature lower bound.

Abstract:We consider deformations of the scalar curvature of a partially integrable pseudohermitian manifold, in analogy with the work of Fischer and Marsden on Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we introduce and discuss R -singular spaces, give sufficient conditions for the stability of the scalar curvature, and give a partial infinitesimal rigidity result for the scalar curvature of a compact, torsion-free, scalar-flat, integrable pseudohermitian manifold.

Abstract:In this paper we study positive solutions to the CR Yamabe equation in noncompact $(2n+1)$-dimensional Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative curvature. In particular, we show that the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^1$ is the only (complete) Sasakian space with nonnegative Tanaka-Webster scalar curvature admitting a (nontrivial) positive solution. Moreover, under some natural assumptions, we prove this strong rigidity result in higher dimensions, extending the celebrated Jerison-Lee's result to curved manifolds.

On the scalar curvature rigidity for mainifolds with non-positive Yamabe invariant

Abstract:In this paper, we study scalar curvature rigidity of non-smooth metrics on smooth manifolds with non-positive Yamabe invariant. We prove that if the scalar curvature is not less than the Yamabe invariant in distributional sense, then the manifold must be isometric to an Einstein manifold. This result extends Theorem 1.4 in Jiang, Sheng and the first author (Sci. China Math. 66 (2023) no. 6, 1141-1160), from a special case where the manifolds have zero Yamabe invariant to general cases where the manifolds have non-positive Yamabe invariant. This result depends highly on an analysis and estimates of geometric evolution equations.

Abstract:For compact submanifolds in Euclidean and Spherical space forms with Ricci curvature bounded below by a function $\alpha(n,k,H,c)$ of mean curvature, we prove that the submanifold is either isometric to the Einstein Clifford torus, or a topological sphere for the maximal bound $\alpha(n,[\frac{n}{2}],H,c)$, or has up to $k$-th homology groups vanishing. This gives an almost complete (except for the differentiable sphere theorem) characterization of compact submanifolds with pinched Ricci curvature, generalizing celebrated rigidity results obtained by Ejiri, Xu-Tian, Xu-Gu, Xu-Leng-Gu, Vlachos, Dajczer-Vlachos.

Abstract:We prove that the scalar curvature is a rigid invariant for complete maximal spacelike $p$-submanifolds in the pseudo-hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{p,q}$. We characterize the $p$-submanifolds achieving the bound and study the hyperbolicity of maximal $p$-submanifolds of $\mathbb{H}^{p,q}$. In codimension $q=1$, we deduce a rigidity result concerning the Ricci curvature of maximal hypersurfaces in anti-de Sitter spaces.

Scalar curvature rigidity of degenerate warped product spaces

Abstract:In this paper we prove the scalar curvature extremality and rigidity for a class of warped product spaces that are possibly degenerate at the two ends. The leaves of these warped product spaces can be any closed Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative curvature operators and nonvanishing Euler characteristics, flat tori, round spheres and their direct products. In particular, we obtain the scalar curvature extremality and rigidity for certain degenerate toric bands and also for round spheres with two antipodal points removed. This answers positively the corresponding questions of Gromov in all dimensions.

Abstract:In this article we consider spherical hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$ with a fixed Reeb vector field as 3-dimensional Sasakian manifolds. We establish the correspondence between three different sets of parameters, namely, those arising from representing the Reeb vector field as an automorphism of the Heisenberg sphere, the parameters used in Stanton's description of rigid spheres, and the parameters arising from the rigid normal forms. We also geometrically describe the moduli space for rigid spheres, and provide geometric distinction between Stanton's hypersurfaces and those found by Ezhov and Schmalz. Finally, we determine the Sasakian automorphism groups of the rigid spheres and detect the homogeneous Sasakian manifolds among them.
