Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:In this paper, it is proved that there us no compact stable minimal submanifolds in a compact simply-connected 0.77-pinched Riemannian manifold, so that a conjecture of Lawson-Simons is supported In particular, the conjecture is true for complete L-pinched hypersurfaces in Rm+l with m greater than or equal to 3, Moreover, the instability of a compact domain of a minimal submanifold in delta -pinched manifolds is considered.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:In this note, we investigate the well-known Yau rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in spheres. Using the parameter method of Yau and the DDVV inequality verified by Lu, Ge and Tang, we prove that if $M$ is an $n$-dimensional oriented compact minimal submanifold in the unit sphere $S^{n+p}(1)$, and if $K_{M}\geq\frac{sgn(p-1)p}{2(p+1)},$ then $M$ is either a totally geodesic sphere, the standard immersion of the product of two spheres, or the Veronese surface in $S^4(1)$. Here $sgn(\cdot)$ is the standard sign function. We also extend the rigidity theorem above to the case where $M$ is a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a space form.
Global Pinching Theorems for Minimal Submanifolds in a Complex Projective Space

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:This paper deals with superminimal surfaces in complex space forms by using theFrenet framing. We formulate explicitly the length squares of the higher fundamental forms andthe higher curvatures for superminimal surfaces in terms of the metric of the surface and the Khlerangle of the immersion. Particularly, some curvature pinching theorems for minimal 2-spheres in acomplex projective space are given and a new characterization of the Veronese sequence is obtained.
Rigidity Results for Compact Submanifolds with Pinched Ricci Curvature in Euclidean and Spherical Space Forms

Abstract:For compact submanifolds in Euclidean and Spherical space forms with Ricci curvature bounded below by a function $\alpha(n,k,H,c)$ of mean curvature, we prove that the submanifold is either isometric to the Einstein Clifford torus, or a topological sphere for the maximal bound $\alpha(n,[\frac{n}{2}],H,c)$, or has up to $k$-th homology groups vanishing. This gives an almost complete (except for the differentiable sphere theorem) characterization of compact submanifolds with pinched Ricci curvature, generalizing celebrated rigidity results obtained by Ejiri, Xu-Tian, Xu-Gu, Xu-Leng-Gu, Vlachos, Dajczer-Vlachos.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem for compact minimal Legendrian submanifolds in the unit Euclidean spheres via eigenvalues of fundamental matrices, which measure the squared norms of the second fundamental form on all normal directions. By using Lu's inequality on the upper bound of the squared norm of Lie brackets of symmetric matrices, we establish an optimal pinching theorem for such submanifolds of all dimensions, giving a new characterization for the Calabi tori. This pinching condition can also be described by the eigenvalues of the Ricci curvature tensor. Moreover, when the third large eigenvalue of the fundamental matrix vanishes everywhere, we get an optimal rigidity theorem under a weaker pinching condition.

Abstract:For a compact minimal hypersurface M in Sn+1 with the squared length of the second fundamental form S we confirm that there exists a positive constant δ(n) depending only on n, such that if n⩽S⩽n+δ(n), then S≡n, i.e., M is a Clifford minimal hypersurface, in particular, when n⩾6, the pinching constant δ(n)=n23.

Abstract:It is proved that if M n is an n-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature vector and flat normal bundle in S n+p (1), and if sup M S < α(n,H), where $\alpha (n,{\rm H}) = n + \frac{{n^3 }}{{2(n - 1)}}{\rm H}^2 - \frac{{n(n - 2)}}{{2(n - 1)}}\sqrt {n^2 H^4 + 4(n - 1)H^2 } $, then M n must be the totally umbilical sphere $S^n (\frac{1}{{\sqrt {1 + H^2 } }})$. An example to show that the pinching constant α(n,H) appears optimal is given.

Abstract:We prove a vanishing theorem for the fundamental group of a compact submanifold in a space form, and then present a refined version of Ejiri's rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in a sphere. Inspired by the refined Ejiri theorem, we verify a new differentiable sphere theorem for compact submanifolds in space forms. We also show that our differentiable sphere theorem is sharp. We emphasize that our method of Ricci flow in the proof of the sphere theorem seems useful in the study of curvature and topology. Also, we obtain a differentiable pinching theorem for compact submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:Let M be a closed minimal hypersurface in S with constant nonnegative scalar curvature. Denote by f3 the sum of the cubes of all principal curvatures, by g the number of distinct principal curvatures. We prove that, if both f3 and g are constant, then M is isoparametric. Moreover, We give all possible values for squared length of the second fundamental form of M. This result provides another piece of supporting evidence to the Chern conjecture.

We show that if M n (n ⩾ 5) is an odd-dimensional compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in S n+p , and if Ric M > (n−2−$\tfrac{1} {n}$)(1+H 2) and H < δ n , where δ n is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally umbilical sphere. Here H is the mean curvature of M. Abstract:We prove a scalar-mean rigidity theorem for compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary in dimension less than five by extending Schoen-Yau dimension reduction argument. As a corollary, we prove the sharp spherical radius rigidity theorem and best NNSC fill-in in terms of the mean curvature. Additionally, we prove a (Lipschitz) Listing type scalar-mean comparison rigidity theorem for these dimensions. Our results remove the spin assumption.

We verify a geometric rigidity theorem for complete submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in a unit sphere Sn+P. Inspired by the rigidity theorem, we prove a differentiable sphere theorem for complete submanifolds in Sn+p. Abstract:We prove that if $M^n(n\ge 4)$ is a compact Einstein manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy pinching condition $R_0>\sigma _{n}K_{\max }$, where $\sigma _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on $n$, then $M$ must be isometric to a spherical space form. Moreover, we prove that if an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein manifold satisfies $K_{\min }\ge \eta _n R_0,$ where $\eta _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is locally symmetric. It should be emphasized that the pinching constant $\eta _n$ is optimal when $n$ is even. We then obtain some rigidity theorems for Einstein manifolds under $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature pinching conditions. Finally we extend the theorems above to Einstein submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold, and prove that if $M$ is an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein submanifold in the simply connected space form $F^{N}(c)$ with constant curvature $c\ge 0$, and the normalized scalar curvature $R_0$ of $M$ satisfies $R_0>\frac{A_n}{A_n+4n-8}(c+H^2),$ where $A_n=n^3-5n^2+8n$, and $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$, then $M$ is isometric to a standard $n$-sphere.
