Abstract:A facile and transition-metal-free method was developed through merging the ring opening of benzoxazoles with secondary amines and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) mediated oxidative cyclization toward the synthesis of 2-aminobenzoxazoles. NBS was selected as a powerful oxidant in the oxidative cyclization of ring-opening amidines to provide the desirable 2-aminobenzoxazoles in excellent yields (up to 94%).

Abstract:Redox-active benzimidazolium sulfonamides as thiolating reagents have been developed for reductive C-S bond coupling. The IMDN-SO2R reagent provides a bench-stable cationic precursor to generate a portfolio of highly active N-S intermediates, which can be successfully applied in cross-electrophilic coupling with various organic halides. The employment of an electrophilic sulfur source solved the problem of catalyst deactivation and avoided odorous thiols, featuring practical conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent tolerance.

Abstract:Herein,we report a borane-promoted reductive deoxygenation coupling reaction to synthesize sulfides.This reaction features excellent functional group compatibility,high efficiency,broad substrate scope,and application in late-stage functionalization of biomolecules.Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest di-aryl sulfides are the intermediates of this reaction.Moreover,the real active aryl sulfide anions may be generated in situ with the aid of B2pin2 and react with alkyl tosylates through a concerted SN2 pathway.

Abstract:Enabled by triethyl amine (Et 3 N) and thionyl chloride (SOCl 2 ), an efficient and practical protocol for deoxygenation of sulfoxide to sulfide was developed. This new method features a wide range of substrate scope, including diaryl, dialkyl and aryl alkyl substituted sulfoxides. Detailed mechanistic investigations reveal the crucial role played by Et 3 N as an electron-donating reductant rather than a hydrogen-atom donor.

Abstract:A metal-free method for reduction of cyclic N-sulfonyl ketimines catalyzed by B(C6F5)(3), using commercially available methylphenylsilane as a reducing reagent under mild conditions has been developed. This reductive protocol was effective, not only providing the expected cyclic N-sulfonamides in good to excellent yields, but also showing good functional-group tolerance.

Abstract:A new methodology for the reduction of a wide variety of aliphatic and aromatic sulfoxides catalyzed by the air-stable, cheap and commercially available manganese catalyst MnBr(CO)5 with excellent yields is reported in this work. The catalytic system MnBr(CO)5/PhSiH3 was highly chemoselective, allowing the effective reduction of S=O bond in the presence of different functional groups.

Abstract:Herein we report the catalytic deoxygenative reduction of sulfoxides to give sulfides in good to excellent yields. The method was enabled by the combination of Vaska's complex with poly(methylhydrosiloxane) (PMHS). This reduction system is highly efficient allowing the reaction to be run at ambient temperature with a low catalyst loading (from 0.4 mol % to 0.001 mol % of Ir). The method also features versatility for diverse type of sulfoxides, and high chemoselectivity for sulfinyl group in the presence of other reducible or sensitive functional groups. Challenging sulfoxides for the reported methods were reduced smoothly. A plausible mechanism involving two catalytic cycles was suggested. The applicability of the method was demonstrated by gram-scale syntheses, and by the late-stage modification of multifunctional pharmaceuticals leading to a sulfide drug, two prodrugs, and some pharmacophores. The convenient additive-free and extraction-free protocol, the efficiency allowing lowering catalyst loading to 0.001 mol % (Ir), and the use of 2-methyltetrahydrofuran, a solvent produced from renewable resources, jointly constitute the sustainability of this method.

Abstract:The sulfonamidation or sulfonation of electron-deficient alkenes is the most direct way to furnish alkylsulfonamides or sulfonates, which are of importance for the discovery of new bioactive molecules in medicinal research. Herein we report a protocol for the generation and precise control of the sulfonyl radical from dimethylsulfamoyl chloride. Different kinds of alkyl sulfonates and sulfonamides were efficiently and selectively obtained under redox-neutral conditions by controlling the reactivity of photocatalysts. A mechanism for the generation of sulfamoyl and sulfonate radicals from dimethylsulfamoyl chloride and the followed sulfonation and sulfonamidation are proposed. This reaction system offers a distinct advantage over traditional oxidation or reduction sulfonation methods in not requiring the use of sulfur dioxide, sulfonic acid, a stoichiometric reductant, or a stoichiometric oxidant. Thus, it should be of practical value for the late-stage functionalization of natural products or medicines.

Abstract:A convenient and practical multicomponent strategy for the sulfenoamination of alkenes was realized, which using free-thiols as the sulfur-reagent, NIS both as radical initiator and an N-nucleophile. This protocol excellent in terms of transition-metal-free, good functional group tolerance, easily available substrates and facile scale-up. Abstract:A novel and efficient method for the synthesis of NS substituted sulfoximines has been established with h-BN-supported copper(II) nanomaterial as the catalyst. Catalyzed by this heterogeneous catalyst, the desired products were obtained with wide scope of substrates, good to excellent yields, free ligand and low-toxicity solvent. Moreover, after being reused ten times, there is almost no significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract:Herein, we describe a selective late-stage deoxygenation of sulfoxides based on a novel application of chlorosulfonium salts and demonstrate a new process using these species generated in situ from sulfoxides as the source of electrophilic chlorine. The use of highly nucleophilic 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene (TMB) as the reducing agent is described for the first time and applied in the deoxygenation of simple and functionalized sulfoxides. The method is easy to handle, economic, suitable for gram-scale operations, and readily applied for poly-functionalized molecules, as demonstrated with more than 45 examples, including commercial medicines and analogues. We also report the results of competition experiments that define the more reactive sulfoxide and we present a mechanistic proposal based on substrate and product observations.

Abstract:A multicomponent sulfonylation of O-acyl oximes via iminyl radicals with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under photoredox catalysis is achieved. This multicomponent reaction of O-acyl oximes, potassium metabisulfite, alkenes, and nucleophiles under visible-light irradiation is efficient, giving rise to a range of sulfones in moderate to good yields. A broad reaction scope is presented with good functional group compatibility.

Abstract:An efficient method for the synthesis of sulfones via nitrogen loss of sulfonyl hydrazones is described. The reaction was performed in the presence of simple copper salt and base by utilization of sulfonyl hydrazones, which were easily prepared from carbonyl compounds. A wide variety of aryl and alkyl sulfones were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:This study presents a photoredox-mediated reduction of sulfoxides, employing 9-HTXTF as photocatalyst and THF as an external reductant. Scope investigation revealed that diverse substrates, including those with electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups, could be transformed into corresponding sulfides. Mechanistic insights suggest a cascade of events initiated by the excited state of 9-HTXTF, involving multiple single-electron reduction steps and proton transfers. This approach enriches the toolkit for sulfoxide reduction under photoredox catalysis as sustainable synthetic strategies.

Abstract:A new and metal-free cross-coupling reaction between sulfoximines and N-(phenylthio)-succinimides was developed in water, afforded an efficient route for the synthesis of N-sulfenyl sulfoximines. This transformation provides N-sulfenyl sulfoximines with good functional group tolerance and moderate to excellent yields. Moreover, this protocol can be easily scaled up to the gram level with excellent yield.
