Abstract:Redox-active benzimidazolium sulfonamides as thiolating reagents have been developed for reductive C-S bond coupling. The IMDN-SO2R reagent provides a bench-stable cationic precursor to generate a portfolio of highly active N-S intermediates, which can be successfully applied in cross-electrophilic coupling with various organic halides. The employment of an electrophilic sulfur source solved the problem of catalyst deactivation and avoided odorous thiols, featuring practical conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent tolerance.

Abstract:We investigated the reductive cross‐coupling reaction of sulfur‐containing and selenium‐containing compounds (thio(seleno)sulfonates and disulfides(selenides)) with xanthate esters under nickel‐catalysed conditions. This reaction extends the xanthate esters, which generally generate alkyl radicals by C—O bond breaking under photo‐catalysis, to the nickel‐catalysed reductive cross‐coupling reaction, providing a mild and effective method for the synthesis of a series of unsymmetric sulfides and selenides. Comprehensive Summary Unsymmetric sulfides and selenides have great applications in the pharmaceutical field. Herein, we describe the reductive coupling reaction of xanthate esters with sulfur‐containing and selenium‐containing compounds (thio(seleno)sulfonates and disulfides(selenides)) under the nickel‐catalyzed condition. It provides a mild and effective method for the synthesis of unsymmetric sulfides and selenides which has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high yields and a wide range of substrates.

Abstract:Developing innovative methodologies for disulfide preparation is of importance in contemporary organic chemistry. Despite significant advancements in nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling reactions for forming carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, the synthesis of S-S bonds remains a considerable challenge. In this context, we present a novel approach utilizing nickel catalysts for the reductive cross-coupling of thiosulfonates. This method operates under mild conditions, offering a convenient and efficient pathway to synthesize a wide range of both symmetrical and unsymmetrical disulfides from readily available, bench-stable thiosulfonates with exceptional selectivity. Notably, this approach is highly versatile, allowing for the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals and the preparation of various targeted compounds. A comprehensive mechanistic investigation has been conducted to substantiate the proposed hypothesis.

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:A zinc-mediated cross-electrophile coupling of benzyl sulfonium salts with thiosulfonates via C-S bond cleavage was achieved. The reductive thiolation proceeded well under transition metal-free conditions to afford the desired benzyl sulfides in good yields, exhibiting both broad substrate scope and good functionality tolerance. In addition, the reaction could be applied to the use of selenosulfonate as an effective selenylation agent and be subjected to scale-up synthesis.

Abstract:The synthesis of thioether or selenoether through the cross-coupling of C-S or C-Se bond is a high attractive research area due to the prevalence of thioether or selenoether in pharmaceutically active compounds, bioactive natural compounds, agrochemicals, and functional materials. Herein, a novel and general method has been developed for the construction of C-S or C-Se bonds using Katritzky pyridinium salts with disulfides or diselenides in the presence of nickel catalyst. This procedure exhibits remarkable functional group tolerance. Under mild reaction condition, a variety of thioethers and selenoethers is successfully and efficiently obtained through deaminative cross-coupling.

Abstract:The application of amine derivatives as coupling partners is rare due to the inherent strength of the C-N bond. Herein, we report the first cross-electrophile coupling reaction of unstrained benzylic sulfonamides. Nickel-catalyzed intramolecular cross-electrophile coupling reactions of acyclic and cyclic benzylic sulfonamides with pendant alkyl chlorides generate cyclopropane products. Mechanistic experiments and DFT calculations are consistent with initiation of the reaction by magnesium iodide accelerated oxidative addition of the benzylic sulfonamide. This work establishes neutral and unstrained amine derivatives as XEC partners, furnishes structural rearrangement of benzylic sulfonamides, and provides valuable information regarding catalyst design for the development of new cross-electrophile coupling reactions of carbon-heteroatom bonds.

Abstract:Herein, a facile and efficient thiolation method is presented, involving Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling of readily available disulfides with diverse bromides, promoted by ball milling. This Ni-catalyzed modular approach demonstrates excellent functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope, including acidic molecules. Furthermore, the plausible mechanism was extensively investigated and proposed, incorporating multiple valence states of Ni to complete the catalytic cycle. Moreover, green factors were compared with conventional solution methods. The practicality of this transformation is thus demonstrated for the synthesis of sulfur-containing organic compounds, highlighting its high efficiency and eco-friendliness.

Abstract:A nickel‐catalyzed reductive cross coupling reaction of carboxylic acids with disulfides is described. The readily available and inexpensive carboxylic acid is activated in situ by the formation of a mixed anhydride. The transformation occurs at room temperature with wide functional group tolerance to efficiently generate structurally diverse thioesters. Moreover, the reaction tolerated a broad substrate scope, including sterically hindered of disulfides. Ultimately, this powerful method could be applied to the late‐stage functionalization for the construction of diverse thioesters, affording a convenient and practical tactic to construct carbon‐sulfur bonds.

Abstract:A new cooperative nickel reductive catalysis and N,N-dimethylformamide-mediated strategy for umpolung C-S radical reductive cross coupling of S-(trifluoromethyl)arylsulfonothioates with alkyl halides to produce alkyl aryl thioethers is described. This reaction features excellent selectivity, wide functionality tolerance, broad substrate scope, and facile late-stage modification of biologically relevant molecules. Mechanistic studies recognize initial generation of an amidyl radical anion via thermoinduced reduction of DMF with Sn, followed by umpolung reduction and single electron transfer of the nucleophilic sulfonyl moiety to form a sulphydryl radical and engage the Ni0/NiI/NiIII/NiI catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A straightforward reductive cross-coupling of aryl halides and aldehydes to afford silyl-protected secondary alcohols is reported. The catalytic system features the use of nickel/photoredox dual catalysis and α-silylamine as a mild, easily accessible organic reductant, thus enabling the coupling process occur smoothly under mild condition without the necessity of pre-preparing highly reactive organometallic reagents and using stoichiometric amout of metal-based reductants (such as Mn, Zn). Key to success of this reductive coupling is to identify α-silylamine as a bifunctional organic reductant that simultaneously serving as a reducing agent and a transmetallic reagent to restore nickel catalyst. The reaction shows broad substrate scope and tolerates various functional groups, a variety of (hetero)aryl and aliphatic aldehydes are compatible, thus providing a complementary approach to Zn/Mn-mediated reductive coupling systems.

Abstract:An electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling strategy for the synthesis of N-sulfenylsulfoximines from sulfoximines and thiols was accomplished, giving diverse N-sulfenylsulfoximines in moderate to good yields. Abstract:A convenient and practical multicomponent strategy for the sulfenoamination of alkenes was realized, which using free-thiols as the sulfur-reagent, NIS both as radical initiator and an N-nucleophile. This protocol excellent in terms of transition-metal-free, good functional group tolerance, easily available substrates and facile scale-up. And provided a direct- and general way to synthesize various β-succinimide sulfides with high regioselectivity.
