Abstract:A bulk nanoporous copper (NPC) was fabricated by free chemical dealloying of Cu4Mn6 alloy with three different kinds of organization state, which were the as-cast, the as-rolled and the as-annealed precursor alloy. The effects of initial organization on the formation and evolution of NPC was investigated. The phases and microstructure morphology of samples before and after dealloying were analyzed by XRD, SEM and EDS. The results show that the initial organization of the alloy has a great influence on the dealloying process and morphology of NPC. Additionally, the as-annealed alloy was found to be the best precursor to form NPC with uniform structures. The maldistribution of Cu element of the as-cast and as-rolled alloy, whose initial organization include copper-rich and copper-poor areas, was not conducive to dealloying process. After dealloying, we found the coexistence of 3D interconnected pore structure of micrometer and nanometer level in the NPC by dealloying the as-cast and as-rolled Cu-Mn alloy. Compared to the above two alloys, the as-annealed sample with uniform initial organization, which is conducive to the selective dissolution of Mn elements and the restructuring of Cu elements, can be completely dealloyed to form a uniform and bicontinuous porous structure in three dimensions with nanometer length scale in the shortest time with minimum residual manganese content.
