Abstract:Two new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids artanoate (1) and eudesmanomolide (2) were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala S. Moore. Their structures were elucidated as methyl (4R, 5S, 6S, 7S, 10R)-1-oxo-4, 6-dihydroxy-eudesma-2, 11 (13)-dien-12-oate (1) and (1R, 5R, 6R, 10R)-3, 13-diacetoxy-1-hydroxy-3, 7(11)-diene-12, 6-olide (2) on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. Compound 1 showed cytotoxicity against HCT-8 cell lines with IC50 value of 9.13μM, and compound 2 exhibited inhibitory activities against HCT-8 and A549 cell lines with IC50 values of 3.76 and 5.49μM, respectively.

Abstract:A new antimicrobial eudesmanolide, 1-oxo-8 alpha-hydroxy-11 alpha H-eudesm-4-en-12,6 alpha-olide (1), was isolated from a medicinal plant Artemisia giraldii and its structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods (IR, MS, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, H-1-H-1 COSY and NOESY). Antimicrobial bioassay indicated that this compound inhibited the growth of human pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus auerus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli as well as human opportunistic pathogenic fungi Candida tropicalis, Gecotrichum candidun, Aspergillus flavus and A. nigers.

Abstract:Fourteen known compounds were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala and identified as follows:zhepiresinol(1),(-)-lariciresinol(2),ficusal(3),medioresinol(4),(+)-syringaresinol(5),1β,2β-epoxy-3β,4α,10α-trihydroxyguaian-6α,12-olide(6),5β,10α-dihydroxy-1αH-dehydroleucodin(7),3α-chloro-8α-acetoxy-4β,10α-dihydroxy-1β,2β-epoxy-5α,7αHguai-11(13)-en-12,6α-olide(8),13-O-desacetyleudesma-afraglaucolide(9),1,10-seco-4ξ-hydroxy-muurol-5-ene-1,10-diketone(10),1α-hydroxyafraglaucolide(11),aurantiamide(12),indole-3-aldehyde(13),loliolide(14).All these compounds were isolatedfrom this plant for the first time and compounds 1-4,8,10,13 were obtained from genus Artemisia for the first time.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Their molecular formula and chemical structures were established.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:A new diphenyl ether methyl 2-(2-formyl-3-hydroxy-5-methylphenoxy)-5-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoate (3), together with four known compounds, asterric acid (1), methyl asterrate (2), 9(Z),12(Z)-nonadecadienoic acid (4) and orsellinic acid (5), were isolated from the Phoma sp. strain SHZK-2, which was isolated from a polluted environment in southern China. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods. Cytotoxicities of compounds against HEPG2 cell and Raji cell lines were preliminarily evaluated by the MTT method.

Abstract:A new sesquiterpene (Z)-7-acetoxy-methyl-11-methyl-3-methylenedodeca-1,6,10-triene (AMDT) was isolated and identified from the methanol extract of the hairy root culture of Artemisia annua. The structure of AMDT was determined based on the analysis of spectroscopic data, notably of the 2D NMR spectra. This new compound showed cytotoxicity against human tumor cell lines 95-D and HeLa with IC50 values of 27.08 and 20.12μmol/L, respectively.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:Artesin A (1), a rare symmetrical dimeric guaianolide, was isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana. Its structure was determined by analysis of the spectroscopic data, including HRESIMS, 1D, and 2D NMR and the absolute configuration was resolved by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Artesin A exhibited a moderate inhibition effect on the LPS-induced nitric oxide production in BV-2 microglial cells with an IC50 value of 38.78μM.

Abstract:A new eudesmane derivative, 4α,5α-dihydroxyeudesma-11(13)-en-12-oic acid, was isolated from Laggera pterodonta. Its structure was elucidated as (1) on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. Moreover, six known compounds were isolated: pterodontriol A (2), pterodontriol B, pterodonta acid (3), ilicic acid (4), costic acid and β-amyrin. Abstract:Twelve undescribed and 13 known eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids were obtained from Artemisia leucophylla , and structurally elucidated based on comprehensive analyses of spectral data, including HRESIMS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, and ECD calculation. The absolute configuration of compound 1 was determined by a single X-ray single crystal diffraction. Chemically, compounds 1–5 featured unprecedented 1,2- seco -1- nor- eudesmane-type skeleton with a cis -fused 6/5 bicyclic system. Antihepatoma evaluation against three human hepatoma cell lines (HepG2, Huh7, and SK-Hep-1) for all compounds demonstrated that compound 7 displayed the most active cytotoxicity with IC 50 values of 35.1, 35.0, and 32.7 μ Μ.
