Abstract:Two new sesquiterpene lactone glycosides and two new eudesmanolides, along with twelve known compounds were isolated from seeds of Carpesium macrocephalum. The structures of these new compounds were elucidated as 2alpha- O-beta- D-glucopyranosyl-5alpha, 11alpha H-eudesma-4(15)-en-12,8beta-olide ( 1), 2alpha- O-beta- D-glucopyranosyl-5alpha H-eudesma-4(15),11(13)-dien-12,8beta-olide ( 2), 2alpha-acetoxy-5alpha-hydroxy-11alpha H-eudesma-4(15)-en-12,8beta-olide ( 3) and 2alpha,5alpha-dihydroxy-11alphaH-eudesma-4(15)-en-12,8beta-olide ( 4) by spectroscopic methods including 2D NMR techniques ( (1)H- (1)H COSY, (1)H- (1)H NOESY, HMQC, HMBC) and chemical transformations. Compounds 1, 6, 8, 9 and 10 exhibited moderate antibacterial activity, while compound 4 showed appreciable cytotoxic activity against cultured SMMC-7721 (human hepatoma cell).

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide 13-hydroxy-4 alpha H-eudesman-5,7(11)-dien-12,8 beta-olide (1) and a new aromatic derivative 3-methyl-8-acetoxy-9,10-diisobutanoyloxy-p-cymene (6), along with ten known compounds were isolated from the roots of Carpesium cernuum L. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods (IR, EIMS, FAB-MS, 1D and 2D NMR). Compound 2, 3 and compound 10 exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract:Two new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. The structures were established based on the interpretation of high-resolution MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR data, the absolute configuration of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The new compounds were elucidated as (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β, 11-tetrahydroxy decahydronaphthalene (1) and (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β-trihydroxy decahydronaphthalene-11-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (2). The compound 1 showed significant antioxidant activity.

Abstract:As a part of our interest in biologically active germacranolides from the genus Carpesium (Compositae), we have investigated the constituents of Carpesium cernuum. This paper reports the isolation and structural elucidation of a new germacranolide, cemolide A (Compound 1), from the herb. The structure of Compound 1 was determined as 2α,3β-dihydroxy-9-angeloxygermacra-4-en-6,12-olide on the basis of spectral evidence. The skeleton of Compound 1 was elucidation by IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR, COSY, HMQC and HMBC experiments. The stereochemistry of Compound 1 was deduced by ROESY spectral data. Finally, the procedures of extraction and isolation were described in detail.

Abstract:From the fruits of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. a new beta-dihydroagarofuran sesquiterpene ester named 1beta,2beta,13-triacetoxy-9alpha-cinnamoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1) has been isolated along with two known compounds, 6alpha-acetoxy-1beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2), and 1beta, 6alpha-diacetoxy-9beta-benzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran ( 3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:The title compound, C15H20O3, a sesquiterpene lactone, was isolated from the aerial parts of Carpesium minus Hemsl. (Compositae). The molecule is composed of three rings, with the two cyclohexane rings in chair conformations and the cyclopentane ring adopting a twist conformation. The A/B ring junction is trans-fused. The absolute configuration shown has been arbitrarily assigned. In the crystal, molecules are linked into [100] chains by O—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract:Three new xanthanolides, 1-3, along with nine known compounds, were isolated from the aerial parts of Carpesium longifolium. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 1beta,4beta-epoxy-5beta-hydroxy-10alphaH-xantha-11(13)-en-12,8beta-olide (1), 1beta,4beta,4alpha,5beta-diepoxy-10alphaH,11alphaH-xantha-12,8beta-olide (2), and 4-acetoxy-1beta,5beta-epoxy-10alphaH-xantha-11(13)-en-12,8beta-olide (3) by spectroscopic methods including IR, EIMS, HRESIMS, and 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Parthenolide and michelenolide exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against cultured SMMC-7721 (human hepatoma) and HO-8910 (human ovarian carcinoma) cells.

Abstract:Four new eudesmanes, namely, 4(15)-eudesmene-1beta,7alpha-diol (1), 4(15)-eudesmene-1beta,7beta-diol (2), 7-trinoreudesma-4(15),8-dien-1beta-ol-7-one (3), and eudesma-4(15),7-dien-1beta-ol (4), as well as three known compounds, 5-epi-eudesma-4(15)-ene-1beta,6beta-diol (5), 4(15)-eudesmene-1beta,6alpha-diol (6), and 4(15)-eudesmene-1beta,5alpha-diol (7), were isolated from the aerial part of Caragana intermedia. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses including 1D, 2D NMR, HRMS, and IR. The structures of compounds 1, 5, 6, and 7 were confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Compound 7 showed glucose consumption activity with an IC value of 10.7 microg/mL in a C2C12 muscle cell assay. The MIC value of this compound (100 mg/kg) in a db/db mice model is equivalent to that of metformin in vivo.

Abstract:Four undescribed sesquiterpenes, atramacrolodes A‐D (1‐4), along with six known compounds 5‐10 were isolated from the rhizome of Atractylodes macrocephala. Compound 3 possessed a new skeleton based on an unprecedented carton‐carton connection. Their structures were determined by UV, IR, HRESIMS, NMR spectra, 13C NMR calculation with DP4+ analysis, and the comparison of experimental and calculated ECD spectra. Compounds 5 and 8 showed protective effects against paracetamol‐induced liver cell injury.

The presence of compounds 1,2,7~9 in a plan t of the genus Carpesium is reported for the fist time.
