Abstract:Based on the research of the supports of dimension functions for band-limited wavelets, we show that if the Fourier transform of a band-limited wavelet is continuous at every boundary point of the support of its Fourier transform, then this band-limited wavelet is associated with a multiresolution analysis.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach of implementing the frequency spectral analysis with multiresolution technique. Both FFT and wavelet analysis are used in order to generate the spectrum with a- logarithmic-style resolution distribution. The algorithm, computational efficiency and memory storage efficiency are discussed in detail.

Abstract:Wavelet analysis is a time-frequency analysis method, which assume multiple resolution and multiple analysis characteristics. Moreover, it has the function of characterization of localization of signal. Therefore, it is credited with telescope in the mathematics. Compact-support orthogonal wavelets have linear phase except the Haar wavelet, so th finite impulse signal is decomposed and reconstructed using biorthogonal wavelets by Mallat algorithm. Basing on the principle of the principle of wavelet transform equivalent to band-pass filer in fequency domain, it is filtered using wavelet transform in the time domain. A mathematical model is attained to demonstrate it. Results illustrate that the unwanted waveforms are basically suppressed. In the case the order problem of biorthogonal spline wavelets is discussed.

Abstract:The authors present a necessary and sufficient condition for the completeness of any partial dyadic wavelet transform domain representation (PDWTDR) of discrete finite data length signals (including dyadic wavelet transform extrema and zero-crossing representations). It is shown that completeness depends only on the locations of the retained samples of the dyadic wavelet transform. The present completeness test is more convenient and easier to verify than previously derived tests. It is also shown how to ensure the completeness of the representation by adding additional information in those cases where the PDWTDR is incomplete. The numerical stability of such a representation is also discussed. A fast-Fourier-transform (FFT)-based reconstruction algorithm from such a signal representation is also described.<>

Abstract:We consider the problem of characterizing the Sobolev wavefront set of a tempered distribution $u\in\mathcal{S}'(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ in terms of its continuous wavelet transform, with the latter being defined with respect to a suitably chosen dilation group $H\subset{\rm GL}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$. We derive necessary and sufficient criteria for elements of the Sobolev wavefront set, formulated in terms of the decay behaviour of a given generalized continuous wavelet transform. It turns out that the characterization of directed smoothness of finite order can be performed in the two important cases: (1) bandlimited wavelets, and (2) wavelets with finitely many vanishing moments (e.g.~compactly supported wavelets).

Abstract:In this paper, we study nonhomogeneous wavelet systems which have close relations to the fast wavelet transform and homogeneous wavelet systems. We introduce and characterize a pair of frequency-based nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames in the distribution space; the proposed notion enables us to completely separate the perfect reconstruction property of a wavelet system from its stability property in function spaces. The results in this paper lead to a natural explanation for the oblique extension principle, which has been widely used to construct dual wavelet frames from refinable functions, without any a priori condition on the generating wavelet functions and refinable functions. A nonhomogeneous wavelet system, which is not necessarily derived from refinable functions via a multiresolution analysis, not only has a natural multiresolution-like structure that is closely linked to the fast wavelet transform, but also plays a basic role in understanding many aspects of wavelet theory. To illustrate the flexibility and generality of the approach in this paper, we further extend our results to nonstationary wavelets with real dilation factors and to nonstationary wavelet filter banks having the perfect reconstruction property.

Abstract:The orthonormal wavelets associated with a multiresolution analysis are mainly determined by the corresponding refinable function. In this paper, we study the continuity of refinable functions on the Heisenberg group. The characterization of Lipschitz continuous refinable functions is given in terms of the uniform joint spectral radius. We also give an investigation of the refinable functions in the generalized Lipschitz spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the convolution structure in the special affine Fourier domain to combine the advantages of the well known special affine Fourier and wavelet transforms into a novel integral transform coined as special affine wavelet transform and investigate the associated constant Q-property in the joint time-frequency domain. The preliminary analysis encompasses the derivation of the fundamental properties, orthogonality relation, inversion formula and range theorem. Finally, we extend the scope of the present study by introducing the notion of multi-resolution analysis associated with special affine wavelet transform and the construction of orthogonal special affine wavelets. We call it special affine multi-resolution analysis. The necessary and sufficient conditions pertaining to special affine Fourier domain under which the integer shifts of a chirp modulated functions form a Riesz basis or an orthonormal basis for a multi-resolution subspace is established.

Abstract:In this contribution, we study the notion of affine invariance (specifically, invariance to the shifting, scaling, and rotation of the coordinate system) as a starting point for the development of mathematical tools and approaches useful in the characterization and analysis of multivariate fractional Brownian motion (fBm) fields. In particular, using a rigorous and powerful distribution theoretic formulation, we extend previous results of Blu and Unser (2006) to the multivariate case, showing that polyharmonic splines and fBm processes can be seen as the (deterministic vs stochastic) solutions to an identical fractional partial differential equation that involves a fractional Laplacian operator. We then show that wavelets derived from polyharmonic splines have a behavior similar to the fractional Laplacian, which also turns out to be the whitening operator for fBm fields. This fact allows us to study the probabilistic properties of the wavelet transform coefficients of fBm-like processes, leading for instance to ways of estimating the Hurst exponent of a multiparameter process from its wavelet transform coefficients. We provide theoretical and experimental verification of these results. To complement the toolbox available for multiresolution processing of stochastic fractals, we also introduce an extended family of multidimensional multiresolution spaces for a large class of (separable and nonseparable) lattices of arbitrary dimensionality.

Abstract:We characterize the support G of the Fourier transform of the band-limited scaling function and give an approach to the construction of the scaling function. Based on the relations of translates of three point sets G, 12G and G∖12G, we reveal an essential difference of scaling functions corresponding to MRA, weakly translation invariant MRA and translation invariant MRA. Moreover, we consider the case that support of the Fourier transform of the scaling function is a convex set. Finally, we show that the support of Fourier transform of any scaling function cannot be a closed ball.

Abstract:This paper is understood as a supplement to the paper by [Stutzki et al, 1998], where we have shown the usefulness of the Allan-variance and its higher dimensional generalization, the Delta-variance, for the characterization of molecular cloud structures. In this study we present the connection between the Allan- and Delta-variance and a more popular structure analysis tool: the wavelet transform. We show that the Allan- and Delta-variances are the variances of wavelet transform coefficients.

Abstract:It is well-known that the different kinds of multiresolution analysis (MRA) structures generate different wavelets. In this paper, we give two uniform formulas on the number of mother functions for various wavelets associated with MRA structures. These formulas show that the number of mother functions of wavelets is determined by the support of the Fourier transform of the scaling function in MRA structure.
