Abstract:Reaction of a sulfur, selenium, or tellurium alkaline aqueous solution and Pb(CH3COO)2·3H2O aqueous solution produces nanocrystalline lead chalcogenides PbE (E = S, Se, or Te) with a cubic phase at low temperature under atmospheric pressure. The products are characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The average particle size is in the range 20–35 nm. The XPS analysis indicates that the stability of the product surface in air decreases in the order PbS, PbSe, and PbTe. An advantage of this synthesis method is that the PbE crystallizes well in the alkaline solution. The mechanism for the formation of the lead chalcogenides is discussed.

Abstract:The lead selenide ( PbSe) nanoparticles have been synthesized under ultrasonic/microwave co-irradiation. These PbSe nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction ( XRD), transmission electron microscopy ( TEM) and DSC. In the new routes, pure PbSe phase was synthesized using elemental Se and lead acetate as starting materials and ethylene glycol as solvent under ultrasound of 25 kHz, 1500 W and microwave of 1000 W, 2450 MHz.

Abstract:The nanocrystalline semiconductors PbS and CuS were prepared by gamma-irradiation at room temperature in an ethanol system for the first time. Carbon disulfide was used as the sulfur source; lead acetate and copper chloride were used as metal ion sources. X-ray Powder Diffraction was used to characterize the products and Transmission Electron Microscopy to determine their morphology. The purity and compositions of the products were examined by X-ray photoelectron spectra. The photoluminescence property of as-prepared PbS was studied. A blue shift was observed in the PL spectra, indicating the quantum size effect on nanocrystalline PbS. Copyright 1999 Academic Press.

Abstract:Ultrasonic radiation and gamma -irradiation techniques have been combined to prepare one-dimensional PbSe nanorods. X-Ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns, electron diffraction (ED) patterns and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that the PbSe nanorods were well crystallized with diameters of ca. 60 nm and lengths up to 700 nm. The effects of different solvents, the anions of the lead salts and the other metal salts were investigated, and the formation process of the PbSe nanorods has been discussed.

Abstract:γ-Irradiation was successfully used to prepare nanocrystalline composites of PbS/polyacrylonitrile with 23 wt.% lead sulfide at room temperature, in which the inorganic component displays homogeneous dispersion in the polymer matrix. X-Ray powder diffraction and infrared spectra were used to characterize the product. Its morphology was determined by transmission electron microscopy.

Abstract:Dichalcogenoimidodiphoshinato lead complexes, [Pb((EPiPr2)2N)2] (E=S, Se) have been synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure of [Pb((SeSPiPr2)2N)2]), has been solved by single‐crystal X‐ray crystallography and reported. These complexes have been used as single‐source precursors to synthesise PbS and PbSe nanoparticles by hot‐injection method in an oleylamine/trioctylphosphine mixture. Powder X‐ray diffraction (p‐XRD) studies indicate that the nanoparticles produced are cubic. The optical band gaps estimated from the absorption spectrum fitting curve indicate significant tuning of the bulk band gap, blue shifting towards the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. bis(imidodiisopropylthioselenophosphinato) lead (II) complex has been synthesized and characterized and was employed as a single source precursor for the hot‐injection synthesis of PbSxSe1‐x in trioctylphosphine/oleylamine at 200 °C. The product obtained was characterized using p‐XRD, HRTEM and TEM. The p‐XRD showed peaks that matched mainly with cubic PbSe (ICDD 04–004‐4328).

Abstract:Ag2Se, CuSe and PbSe were prepared by irradiating the mixtures of AgNO3, CuI or PbCl2 with selenium in ethylenediamine (en) with ultrasound at 18kHz, using a commercial ultrasonic cleaner, respectively. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images show that the products are orthorhombic Ag2Se, hexagonal CuSe and cubic PbSe, respectively, and all are well crystallized in nanometers.

Abstract:Monodisperse lead selenide nanoparticles have been successfully prepared via a sonochemical route from an aqueous solution of lead acetate and sodium selenosulfate in the presence of complexing agents under ambient air. It was found that when trisodium citrate was used as the complexing agent, the product was spherical nanoparticles with an average size of ca. 8 nm. If potassium nitrilotriacetate was used, the product consisted of rectangles with an average size of ca. 25 nm. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A probable mechanism for the sonochemical formation of PbSe was proposed. Several factors that affected the nature and morphology of the products were also discussed such as the pH value, the complexing agents, and the intensity of the ultrasound irradiation.

Abstract:Hydrothermal reaction of selenium or tellurium with lead acetate in sodium hydroxide solution in the presence of hydrazine hydrate as a reductive was investigated to prepare lead chalcogenides, PbE (E=Se, Te). Nanocrystals with different morphology could be obtained under mild conditions. Our experiment shows that source materials and reaction temperature play important roles in forming the objective products and controlling their morphologies. The formation of lead chalcogenides in our process is based on a direct elemental combination pathway. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Abstract:Nanocrystalline PbS was prepared in glycerin with the use of Pb(OAC)2·3H2O and CS2 as source materials at room temperature. The final product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). TEM showed the particles' size is in the range of 5–25 nm. The chemical mechanism for the formation of PbS in this system is discussed.

Abstract:Spherical PbSe hollow nanostructure assemblies (HNSAs) were synthesized by a simple one-pot solid/liquid-phase reaction in which solid KPbI3 center dot 2H(2)O and SeO2 are heated in oleic acid/dodecylamine/1-octadecene at 250 degrees C for 30 min. XRD analysis shows that the obtained product is cubic-phase PbSe and well crystallized. FESEM and TEM images reveal that the obtained spherical PbSe assemblies are made up of small, irregular, and fused hollow nanostructure building blocks. On the basis of temperature- and time-dependent investigations as well as control experiments, molten-salt corrosion of solid PbSe nanocrystal aggregates formed in situ during the high-temperature ripening stage is suggested to explain the formation of such novel assemblies. Moreover, when the reaction temperature is further increased to 280 or 320 degrees C with other conditions unchanged, cubic and orthorhombic mixed-phase PbSe HNSAs is generated. The obtained PbSe HNSAs exhibit excellent electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) performance. Two strong and stable emission peaks at about -1.4 and +1.5 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) are observed. In particular, the ECL intensity is influenced by the crystal phase of PbSe.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline lead chalcogenides PbE (E=S, Se, Te) were synthesized conveniently by the reaction of Pb(CH3COO)2·3H2O and elemental chalcogens in ethylenediamine (en) under ultrasonic irradiation. XRD and TEM techniques were employed to characterize the products. The solubility of chalcogen in en was found to be the key factor of the reaction. A three-step mechanism was proposed to account for the formation of the products.

Abstract:PbSe nanoparticles of about 12 nm in size have been prepared by a pulse sonoelectrochemical technique from an aqueous solution of sodium selenosulfate and lead acetate. The PbSe nanoparticles were characterized, using techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy, diffuse reflection spectrum, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The effects of changing the various parameters on particle size were discussed, and possible explanations were offered. A band gap of 1.10 eV was estimated from optical measurement of the nanoparticles.

Abstract:High quality zinc blende ZnSe and ZnSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals have been synthesized by two converse injection methods (i.e. zinc precursor injection or selenium precursor injection) when Se-ODE complex was chosen as the phosphine-free selenium precursor. Absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the as-synthesized ZnSe and ZnSe/ZnS nanocrystals. The quality of the as-prepared ZnSe nanocrystals reached the same high level compared with the method using phosphine selenium precursors since the quantum yields were between 40 and 60% and photoluminescence (PL) full width at half-maximum (FWHM) was well controlled between 14 and 17 nm. The parameter window for the growth of high quality ZnSe nanocrystals was found to be much broader and monodisperse ZnSe nanocrystals were synthesized successfully even when the reaction temperature was set as low as 240 degrees C. As cores, such zinc blende ZnSe nanocrystals were also used to synthesize ZnSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals with high fluorescence quantum yields of 70%. Cu(2+) or Mn(2+) doped ZnSe nanocrystals were also synthesized by simply modifying this phosphine-free method. The emission range has been extended to 500 and 600 nm with the use of Cu(2+) and Mn(2+) dopants compared with the emission coverage of ZnSe at around 400 nm. This is the first totally "green approach" (i.e. phosphine-free synthesis) for the synthesis of high quality ZnSe, ZnSe/ZnS, and Cu(2+) or Mn(2+) doped ZnSe nanocrystals.

Abstract:Here we report a low-cost and "green" phosphine-free route for the size- and shape-controlled synthesis of high-quality zinc blende (cubic) ZnSe nanocrystals. To avoid the use of expensive and toxic solvents such as trioctylphosphine (TOP) or tributylphosphine (TBP), SeO(2) was dispersed in 1-octadecene (ODE) as a chalcogen precursor. It has been found that the temperature and the surface ligand influenced the nucleation, the reaction speed and the formation of different shapes. Absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used for the characterization of the as-synthesized ZnSe nanocrystals. The size-dependent photoluminescence (PL) range of the as-prepared ZnSe nanocrystals was between 390 and 450 nm, with the PL full width at half-maximum (FWHM) well controlled between 14 and 18 nm and PL quantum yields reached up to 40% at room temperature. Moreover, this new selenium precursor can be used to form tetrapod-shaped ZnSe nanocrystals when zinc acetylacetonate was introduced as the zinc precursor with a one-pot method.
