Abstract:Objective:To understand the practice of humanistic care and social worker voluntary service in public hospitals in China.Methods:From January to March 2021, 38 typical cases concerning " medical social worker and volunteer system" and " building a harmonious doctor-patient relationship through humanistic service" were collected by relying on the evaluation of China Healthcare Improvement Initiative. By means of statistics on the frequency of the subject words in the cases, hotspots of these hospitals in " paying attention to medical humanistic care and promoting social work voluntary service" were identified.Results:By classifying the keywords of the 38 cases, the hotspots mainly focused on strengthening the construction and management of social work volunteer platform and team, providing convenient and high-quality services, integrating humanistic care into diagnosis and treatment services, and building characteristic brand projects.Conclusions:The concept of humanistic care should be integrated into the hospital culture construction, the standardized and institutionalized development of humanistic care and volunteer work in the hospital should be promoted. Supporting measures should be introduced to promote the professional and stable development of talent team, and the routine service system should be established based on the needs assessment of both doctors and patients.

Abstract:Abstract Background Humanistic care management is a necessary measure to improve the motivation and initiative of clinical nurses and is the foundation to improve the quality of nursing. Understanding the current status and identifying the influencing factors that promote or hinder humanistic care behaviors is essential. This study investigated the current status and experiences of nurse managers' caring behaviors toward clinical nurses. Methods We conducted a mixed-methods study with an explanatory sequential design. A survey on the nurse managers' caring behaviors in 101 hospitals from 23 provinces and four municipalities in China was investigated (n = 2022). Then, semi-structured interviews were conducted to obtain information about the participants’ experiences associated with the performance of caring behaviors (n = 27). Results Survey data demonstrated that the nurse managers' overall caring behaviors were moderately good. The total scoring rate was 88.55%, and the overall score was 161.19 ± 20.68. Qualitative data revealed that the capacity of nurse managers and clinical nurses, opportunity, and motivation to implement humanistic care are key influencing factors of caring behaviors. Conclusions The results suggested that intrinsic motivation, organizational support, and the humanistic care capabilities of clinical nurses and nurse managers are vital to implementing care behaviors. Thus, successful humanistic care management requires a concerted effort at the individual and organizational levels.

Abstract:Humanistic management, a form of management focusing on the welfare of the people, is directly affected by the culture of the society in which it is practiced more than in most other forms of management because societies have different perspectives of people’s welfare and fundamental purposes of businesses. Taking humanity as its core, Confucianism has established deep, historic roots in the Chinese society and hence has the potential for persuading Chinese companies to adopt humanistic management. This chapter explores this contention through two case studies. Both companies have benefited significantly by following Confucian virtues and by providing humanistic care and humanistic education to their employees. Based on their practices and a review of humanistic literature, we develop a conceptual model of what may be called the process of Chinese humanistic management with propositions on the key variables in the model, including Confucianism, humanistic leadership, the process of humanistic management, hedonic and eudemonic outcomes for the employees, and certain sustainable outcomes for the company.

Abstract:Objective? To understand the status quo of humanistic care quality of psychiatric nurses in Beijing and its influencing factors. Methods? From May to August 2018, This study selected all the psychiatric hospitals in Beijing and stratified by the tertiary, secondary and first-level psychiatric hospitals. Through random number sampling, 2 to 3 hospitals were selected from each group to conduct cluster surveys. To analyze the humanistic care quality of psychiatric nurses and its influencing factors, 890 psychiatric nurses were surveyed using general information questionnaire, Nursing Caring Characters Assessment Tool (NCCAT), Perceived Organizational Support Scale (POS) and Nurses Professional Values Scale-Revised (NPVS-R). 861 valid surveys were returned with the response rate of 96.74%. SPSS 18.0 was used for data input and statistical analysis. Results? In 861 psychiatric nurses, NCCAT score was 86.36% (125.22±19.79); POS total score was 72.16% (45.46±10.87); NPVS-R score was 81.73% (106.25±21.31). Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the scores of nurses of different levels of hospitals, education backgrounds, professional titles, job satisfaction, parental support, voluntariness, family support, and humanistic training (P＜0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the dimensions of humanistic care of psychiatric nurses were positively correlated with organizational support (r=0.593,P＜0.01), and professional values (r=0.712,P＜0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that hospital level, education, voluntariness, humanistic training, organizational support and professional values were the influencing factors of psychiatric nurses' humanistic care quality (P＜ 0.01). Conclusions? The quality of humanistic care of psychiatric nurses in Beijing is at a high level. Through humanistic training, strengthening on-the-job education, increasing organizational support, and improving professional values can improve the quality of psychiatric nurses' humanistic care.

Abstract:Background: Humanistic care pertains to the abilities, attitudes, and behaviors central to patient-centered care, contributing to patients' sense of safety and wellbeing. This study aimed to assess the satisfaction of patients with humanistic nursing care in Chinese secondary and tertiary public hospitals. Methods: A national cross-sectional survey was conducted across 30 provinces and 83 hospitals in China. Patient satisfaction with humanistic care was assessed using the Methodist Health Care System Nurse Caring Instrument (NCI), which encompasses 20 items across 12 dimensions. Each item was rated on a 7-point Likert scale, yielding a total score of 140. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with patients' satisfaction. Results: Moderate satisfaction (mean score 91.26 ± 13.14) with humanistic nursing care was observed among the 17,593 participants. Factors significantly associated with patient satisfaction included age, hospital type, presence of children, educational attainment, place of residence, family monthly income, and medical insurance type. Conclusion: The study findings highlight the importance of tailored interventions, evidence-based practice guidelines, and patient-centered care in improving patients' satisfaction with humanistic nursing care. Continuous emphasis on nursing education and professional development is crucial for enhancing humanistic care and patient satisfaction.
