An investigation of the training of eight-year stomatological students in interdisciplinary cases treatment

Abstract:Objective To investigate the training of interdisciplinary cases treatment in clinical practice of eight-year program stomatology students.Based on the problems indicated by the investigation and combined with teaching experience, authors proposed some solutions.Methods Sixty students of Peking University School of Stomatology called the survey, investigating and analyzing of their awareness, action and problem in collecting and treating interdisciplinary cases.Results 98.2％ of the students in this survey agreed that the training of diagnosis and treatment of interdisciplinary cases was necessary and had practical significance.Interdisciplinary major source of patients with newly diagnosed cases are normal, the number and variety of clinical disciplines in actual work was involved in general agreement.Students completed more interdisciplinary cases in second practice stage than in the first one (4.5 cases vs.1.7cases), and more efficient either (three disciplines :6.0 times vs.6.5 times;two disciplines :5.0 times vs.5.3 times).Stress and deficiencies in communication were common problems confused students during the training process.Conclusions Training of diagnosis and treatment of interdisciplinary cases are in great practical value for eight-year program stomatology majors.There are some aspects can be improved in collecting and treating interdisciplinary cases.It' s feasible for teacher to help students improve clinical competence by strengthening interdisciplinary cases collection and treatment.To achieve this goal, there must be systematic, process-oriented, institutionalized measures, such as training before internship, analysis during internship, discussion and summary after internship, etc.
