Abstract:The effect of temperature on the uniaxial tension stress-strain behavior of filled silicon rubbers was investigated. Silicone rubber samples of two hardness (Shore A 50 and Shore A 80) were tested at a strain rate of 0.001 s(-1) and temperatures of -20, 20 and 50 degrees C, respectively. The non-contact optical measuring technique, automated grid method for strain measurement, was used to accurately capture the full-field deformation information of the tension sample. Experimental results indicate that the tension responses of filled silicon rubbers exhibit obvious nonlinear elastic characteristics within a moderate strain range and the values of stiffness and nominal stress at a given elongation are dependent on the temperature. The filled silicone rubber can be regarded approximately as an incompressible material. Based on the incompressibility hypothesis, a modified hyperelastic constitutive model was proposed to describe the temperature-dependent tension behavior of silicon rubbers.
