Research Progress of Hydrogen Permeable Amorphous Alloy Membranes

Abstract:It is known that there is an increasing demand for high purity hydrogen due to the development of semiconductor industry and fuel cells. So it is important to get high purity hydrogen through various methods of removing impurity gases from the hydrogen containing gas sources. Amorphous alloys are easy forming, high strength materials which can resist hydrogen embrittlement. Present investigations show that some amorphous alloys possess good hydrogen permeability comparable with Pd and its alloys, while the cost is much lower, indicating their potential application. Here we summarize the research progress in hydrogen permeable amorphous alloy membrane and the interaction between hydrogen and amorphous alloys, and finally the possible application is prospected.
