Abstract:Presents the advantages of the system. Develops a calculating model to analyze the thermal performance of the system which considers the outdoor air parameters, indoor radiation and thermal characteristics of phase change material. Compares the thermal comfort and energy consumption between the heating system and conventional radiator heating system. Abstract:This paper illustrates a structure of electric floor heating system with latent heat thermal storage plate. This system can charge heat by using cheap nighttime electricity and discharge the heat stored at daytime. A theoretical model is developed, which can analyze the thermal performance of buildings applying such system in winter. The thermal performance of the heating system and the effects of various factors on it are analyzed by modeling and simulation. For a given room located in different climate regions, the optimal effect of using such system is predicted, which testifies the feasibility of this heating mode in different climate regions.

Abstract:<p>Being dependent statistics, building energy consumption has accounted for 2/5 of the world's total energy consumption. The combination of phase change energy storage materials with floor radiant cooling and heating system has become one of the main technical means of energy-saving buildings. Based on double phase change energy storage capillary floor radiant heating system, considering the effect of natural convection, wide phase transition area and latent heat release, combining with the characteristics of phase change materials phase behavior change, a novel three phase zone heat transfer model was established, and the Finite Volume method was used to solve the numerical problem. Then the heat storage and heat release of phase change energy storage floor under different working conditions in winter and summer were simulated to decide the phase-change heat transfer characteristics, the best water supply temperature, and the change rule of the surface temperature of the floor were analyzed. The research results can provide theoretical support for to draw up intermittent cooling and heating schemes.</p>

Abstract:A structure of under-floor electric heating system with latent heat thermal storage plate was presented. Such system is capable of applying the electricity at night that may be much cheaper than that at daytime to heat the occupied space so that the electric tariff may be lower a lot and the electric load at daytime may not increase. A theoretical model of analyzing the thermal performance of a room applying such system in winter was developed. By modeling and simulation, the indoor air and floor temperature of the room was calculated for a certain room in different climate regions, which testified the feasibility of the heating mode.

Abstract:A kind of electrical floor heating system with a shape-stabilized phase change material (PCM) which has been studied at Tsinghua University in our previous studies, can provide space heating during the whole day and can be controlled conventionally. However, this is not suitable for office buildings where no space heating is needed at night. The effective control is very important for the heating system in such buildings. In this paper, we studied a kind of new electrical floor heating system with ductless air supply and shape-stabilized PCM for thermal storage in order to overcome the shortcomings of the passive under-floor electric heating system with thermal storage. In this paper, we investigated its thermal performance by experiments and simulation, calculated the effects of various factors and discussed the application feasibility in different climate regions. The results show that the total electrical energy consumption was shifted from the peak period to the off-peak period, which would provide significant economic benefits because of the different day and night electricity tariffs. The system can be designed by choosing PCM with proper melting temperature and be controlled by varying velocity of air supply in different conditions.

Abstract:In order to study the heat storage and release performance of phase change floor, an experimental platform of phase change heat storage floor (PCHSF) coupled with air source heat pump (ASHP) was designed and built in a classroom of Sichuan University in Chengdu, China. Firstly, the thermal response process of complete melting and solidification of phase change material (PCM) layer was investigated to explore the thermal storage capacity of PCHSF. Meanwhile, different operation schemes were set to the 10 hours daytime or 14 hours night ASHP operation scheme, and the circulating water flow rate of 0.76m3/h, 0.96m3/h and 1.19m3/h. The changes of indoor temperature, measuring point temperature, PCM temperature and ASHP COP were analyzed and discussed, and the economic analysis and feasibility evaluation of different operation schemes were performed. The results show that the PCHSF can effectively slow down the decrease of indoor temperature and keep the indoor temperature above required temperature of winter radiant heating when the ASHP heating system is closed. And when the heating system is turned on, the change of circulating water flow rate under the night operation scheme has little influence on the room temperature and the normal operation of ASHP. Therefore, the night operation scheme with the appropriate circulating water flow rate can ensure the heat storage effect, effectively reduce the operating cost and achieve the purpose of peak regulation and energy saving.

Abstract:The conventional solar heating floor system contains a big water tank to store energy in the day time for heating at night,which takes much building space and is very heavy.In order to reduce the water tank volume even to cancel the tank,a novel structure of integrated water pipe floor heating system using shape-stabilized phase change materials(SSPCM)for thermal energy storage was developed.A numerical model was developed to analyze the performance of SSPCM floor heating system under the intermittent heating condition,which was verified by our experimental data.The thermal performance of the heating system and the effects of various factors on it were analyzed numerically.The factors including phase transition temperature,heat of fusion,thermal conductivity of SSPCM and thermal conductivity of the decoration material were analyzed.The results show that tm and kd are the most import influencing factors on the thermal performance of SSPCM floor heating system,since they determine the heat source temperature and thermal resistance between SSPCM plates and indoor air,respectively.Hm should be large to store enough thermal energy in the day time for nighttimes heating.The effects of kp can be ignored in this system.The SSPCM floor heating system has potential of making use of the daytime solar energy for heating at night efficiently in various climates when its structure is properly designed.

Abstract:The conventional active solar water-heating floor system contains a big water tank to store energy in the day time for heating at night, which takes much building space and is very heavy. In order to reduce the water tank volume or even cancel the tank, a novel structure of an integrated water pipe floor heating system using shapestabilized phase change materials (SSPCM) for thermal energy storage was developed and experimentally studied in this paper. The thermal performances of the floors with and without the SSPCM were compared under the intermittent heating condition. The results show that the Energy Storage Ratio (ESR) of the SSPCM floor is much higher than that of the non-SSPCM floor; the SSPCM floor heating system can provide stable heat flux and prevent a large attenuation of the floor surface temperature. Also, the SSPCM floor heating system dampens the indoor temperature swing by about 50% and increases the minimum indoor air temperature by 2°C–3°C under experimental conditions. The SSPCM floor heating system has a potential of making use of the daytime solar energy for heating at night efficiently.

Abstract:The development of efficient and clean heating technologies is profoundly significant for the reduction of carbon emissions in cold regions. This paper puts forth a novel solar-coupled air source heat pump system integrated with phase change heat storage technology, which is well-suited for regions with such climatic conditions. A numerical model of the components and coupled systems is established using the lumped parameter method, and an iterative method is employed for the computational solution in MATLAB software. A variety of system performance aspects are then simulated and analysed following the configuration of component structural parameters and initial operating conditions. The results of the simulations indicate that an increase in the phase change temperature interval of the phase change materials leads to a higher average heat release power. In particular, a 2 degrees C increase in the phase change temperature interval results in an increase in the heat release power of over 10 %. Furthermore, when the system is applied in typical cold regions, including Kunming, Hangzhou, Lhasa, and Harbin, the average coefficient of performance is 10.23, 8.87, 8.49, and 7.70, respectively. The proportion of solar energy input contributes to an increase in system efficiency across all regions. A case study of Hangzhou reveals that the incorporation of solar energy into the system results in an increase in efficiency of 70.91 %. This research provides valuable operational methods and site selection recommendations for engineering practices, laying a theoretical foundation for its widespread application in cold regions.

Abstract:Phase change energy storage technology enhances the integration of renewable resources into low-carbon energy systems for grassland pastoral settlements, further addressing the balance between energy needs and environmental sustainability. This study examines a heating system using an experimental platform in an environmental chamber, where the thermal storage and release processes of phase change energy storage flooring were monitored. The results revealed that phase change energy storage flooring exhibits higher heat transfer efficiency and faster heating rates. Under 40 °C heating conditions, the heating rate of the thermal storage layer increased by 12.5% within 1 h. The flooring also demonstrated superior heat release performance, with the peak heat flux of the thermal storage layer delayed by 15 min. Higher heating temperatures shortened the heating time and extended the heat release duration of the phase change energy storage flooring. Under 45 °C heating conditions, the heat transfer efficiency of the surface temperature of the thermal storage layer increased by 38% within 1 hour and by 24.7% over 4 h. In addition, energy consumption in different tests was analyzed, and thermal conductivity was discussed according to the heat transfer model. Phase change energy storage flooring, when coupled with the abundant solar energy resources available in grassland pastoral areas, presents a viable option for the construction of low-carbon energy systems in grassland pastoral settlements.

Abstract:To improve the application of renewable energy in the heating zone, as well as to address the limitations of air and water source heat pump. The study presents a PV/T (photovoltaic/thermal) coupled air–water source heat pump system integrated with phase change energy storage. A theoretical analytical model and TRNSYS simulation model of the system were developed to evaluate the thermal performance, energy efficiency and economics of the system. The performance of phase change energy storage was compared with that of water storage, and the effect of different phase change materials on the system characteristics. The results show that the coupled system achieves a seasonal performance factor of 2.3, a 56 % reduction in energy consumption, and a 27.7 % reduction in operating costs compared to a conventional gas boiler system. Comparative analysis with the water storage system showed that the system equipped with phase change materials performed well in terms of energy consumption, operating costs and heating stability. In addition, the density of the phase change material has a biased effect on the overall performance of the system. This paper can provide a reference value for the study of renewable energy heating systems in cold zone.

Abstract:A structure of integrated water tube floor heating system using shape-stabilized phase change materials (SSPCM) for thermal energy storage was put forward and investigated in this paper. A mathematical model of analyzing the thermal performance of the room using such floor heating system was developed. By modeling and simulation, the difference of room thermal performance between the SSPCM floor heating system and the concrete floor heating system was compared. The SSPCM floor heating system can provide stable heat flux and prevent overheating and quick attenuation of the floor temperature. The influence of various thermal conductivity of SSPCM on the room thermal performance was analyzed. The thermal conductivity of the existing SSPCM for hydraulic floor heating' system needs to be enhanced to improving the heat transfer rate of the SSPCM floor, while the thermal conductivity should not be so large as to cause the overheating of the floor surface. The floor heating system with SSPCM can utilize efficiently the nighttime cheap electricity for heating in daytime.

Abstract:The article presents a new system that uses phase change material(PCM) for household central energy storage heat pump water chiller/heater units with double functions of cold and heat storage.The system can achieve peak load shifting in summer and solve the imbalance of heat supply between day and night in winter.It also presents the fundamentals and design procedure of the system,and a tri-casing energy storage and heat exchange equipment with many kinds of functions.A new energy storage equipment is presented and a sample unit for a building in shanghai is designed.It uses the enthalpic method model to simulate the process of energy storage and discharge and analyzes its characteristics.

Abstract:Experiments were carried out to investigate the performance of a low-temperature radiant floor heating system with different heat storage materials (sand and phase change material) and heating pipes (polyethylene coils and capillary mat) in the floor structure of a test room. Detailed temperatures in both floor structural layers and the air of the room were measured for four different combinations of these thermal mass and heating pipes during charge and discharge operations. The results showed that the floor structure with capillary mat provides more uniform temperature profile in vertical direction of the test room and needs much shorter time (nearly half) to attain the same room temperature than the cases with polyethylene (PE) coils during the charging process. Also, after the heat source was closed, the floor structures using phase change material (PCM) as thermal mass release heat about 2 times longer than the cases using sand. A CFD simulation is also performed which confirms the measured data during the charging and discharging processes. The results indicate the advantages of using PCM – capillary mat combination for low – temperature floor panel typical of solar – hot – water heating system.
