Abstract:The second IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Students Symposium on Power Electronics (SSPEL)—Asia 2024 was successfully held in Hangzhou, China, from 13 to 14 January 2024 with both in-person and virtual attendees. The event was organized through the joint efforts of the IEEE PELS Membership Committee—China (MCC), PELS Zhejiang/Jiangsu/Anhui Chapter, and PELS Zhejiang University Student Branch Chapter (SBC), with technical co-sponsorship of the China Power Supply Society (CPSS), as well as seven SBCs and the IEEE PELS Students and Young Professional (S&YP) Committee. The Symposium attracted 478 students and young professionals from seven countries, including, but not limited to, China, Singapore, and South Korea ( Figure 1 ).

Abstract:A dynamic stability index of generator for large-area interconnected power system is proposed and it is quantitatively assessed for the China Southern Power Grid.Its main affecting factors are analyzed and the dynamic response factor is defined,which is used to analyze the generator dynamic stability and to further deduce the dynamic stability index of generator.With IEEE 30-bus system as an example,the simulative results show the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed index.It is then applied to a real power grid and the calculated result is combined with the practical situation in the relevant analysis to provide the reference for power system security assessment.

Abstract:As the structure of power system becomes more complicated and its scale expands constantly, serial processing based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system can hardly meet future operational requirements, therefore it is an inevitable tendency to introduce cluster technology into SCADA. To meet demand of power grid development, this paper closely integrate newest cluster technology and designing concept, and develop a clustering based SCADA system, which has super-large grid information processing capability and satisfies the technical requirements of super-high capacity, high speed processing and reliable operation, therefore cluster SCADA can effectively prevent the potential dangers like performance reduction and information loss brought by the dramatically increased data scale.

Abstract:The distributed generation technology is at the stage of limited application now,confronting restrains from the economic efficiency,business modes and policy environments,and thus to understand these restraints and adopt effective countermeasures is a key issue for its development in a large scale.Summarizing the disadvantages of centralized power supply and the advantages of distributed power supply,and classifying the research subjects related to the distributed generation,this paper makes an overview on the various impacts from the distributed resource integrating into power grids,and its main related research fields,pointing out that how to coordinate the distributed resources and network,or to coordinate microgrid and network is an important issue to be studied and resolved in near future,and the coordination of the distributed resources and network is the basis for the application of distributed generation technology while the coordination of microgrid and network is one of the supports for the construction of smart distributed network.

Abstract:As□China's first large-scale centralized new energy development demonstration province, Gansu has made brilliant achievements in new energy development in the past decade. With the continuous advancement of the “14th Five-Year Plan” desert, Gobi, and desert new energy strategies, Gansu's new energy will usher in sustained and rapid development. According to the plan, the province's new energy installed capacity will reach 81.22 million kilowatts by 2025, and the installed capacity will exceed 60%. As a typical large-scale new energy transmission end power grid in China, Gansu New Energy will face some major challenges. This article is systematically analyze the eight target scenarios and eight technical challenges faced by Gansu Power Grid at the end of the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, especially in the face of extreme weather. The output of new energy sources presents the characteristics of “high power, low power, power, and no power”, and analyzes the impact of this feature on the power grid. Finally, four measures and suggestions for dealing with future technological challenges and risks are given.

Abstract:Continuously expanding deployments of distributed power-generation systems (DPGSs) are transforming the conventional centralized power grid into a mixed distributed electrical network. The modern power grid requires flexible energy utilization but presents challenges in the case of a high penetration degree of renewable energy, among which wind and solar photovoltaics are typical sources. The integration level of the DPGS into the grid plays a critical role in developing sustainable and resilient power systems, especially with highly intermittent renewable energy resources. To address the challenging issues and, more importantly, to leverage the energy generation, stringent demands from both utility operators and consumers have been imposed on the DPGS. Furthermore, as the core of energy conversion, numerous power electronic converters employing advanced control techniques have been developed for the DPGS to consolidate the integration. In light of the above, this paper reviews the power-conversion and control technologies used for DPGSs. The impacts of the DPGS on the distributed grid are also examined, and more importantly, strategies for enhancing the connection and protection of the DPGS are discussed.

Abstract:Power electronics has widely been applied in electric power systems. In recent years,power electronics is developing rapidly in distribution grids, and its major applications have been extended from conventional functions such as power quality conditioning, renewable energy integration and energy saving control on the consumer side, to the management of distribution grid such as the control of bidirectional or multidirectional power flow and power management. Therefore, the power electronic equipment with conventional independent operating mode can not meet the requirement of the distribution grid. So, it is necessary for power electronic equipment to communication with each other and to coordinate in the whole grid, which forms a comprehensive network integrating the functions of energy flow and information exchange. This development trend not only brings new challenges to power electronics, but also prompts the transformation of the distribution grid, and accelerates the emerging of DC distribution grid. This paper reviews the concepts of networked power electronic equipment and its significant properties, and elaborates the development trend of power electronics and the key technologies for power electronic equipment interconnecting and networking in the view of power conversion and data communication. On the other side, the features, candidate configurations and key technical problems of power electronics based DC distribution grids are also analyzed in this paper.

Abstract:With the rapid increase of the installed capacity and generation capacity of renewable generation, the topology and structure of modern power systems get more complicated, which promotes higher requirements for power system secure and stable operation. However, power system large-scale blackouts often occur. This paper firstly reviewed 51 major blackouts in history worldwide. The main causes of blackouts were summarized afterwards. Finally, distributed accommodation for distributed energy in energy internet was proposed as a key research direction to avoid large-scale blackouts.
