Abstract:In this study, a series of copper species supported on TiO2 catalysts were synthesized. With respect to the CuO/TiO2 catalyst, around 75% NOx was reduced between 200 and 250 degrees C and a negative deNO(x) efficiency was achieved above 350 degrees C. The existence of plentiful reactive surface oxygen species favored the activation of NOx and NH3, thus leading to satisfactory activity levels at lower temperatures. Due to this, NH3 over-oxidized to NOx was also facilitated and the portion of NH3 reducing NOx to N-2 or N2O in the reactions showed a downward trend as temperature increased, which explained the decreasing high-temperature NOx removal efficiency of this sample. For CuSO4/TiO2 and SO2-treated CuO/TiO2 catalysts, the generation of plentiful strong acid sites at the expense of the reactive surface oxygen species suppressed the activation of NH3 and NOx to some extent at lower temperatures and also negatively affected the over-oxidation of NH3 to NOx at elevated temperatures, which explained the changes in the operating temperature window to a high temperature region.

Abstract:Copper-based (Cu-based) catalysts have garnered significant attention for their potential in ammonia-selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NO x ). However, the widespread industrial application of Cu cation-exchanged chabazite catalysts has been hindered by poor hydrothermal stability, expensive raw materials, and complicated preparation. As a result, copper oxide-based (CuO-based) catalysts have emerged as ideal candidates due to their low cost and facile preparation. Nevertheless, the performance of NH3-SCR catalysts is a significantly influenced by the crystal plane effect, which has been scarcely investigated in Cu oxide-based NH3-SCR catalysts. In this study, CuO with exposed {001} and {111} facets were synthesized and combined with titanium dioxide (TiO2) support to construct CuO/TiO2 composite NH3-SCR catalysts. These catalysts displayed divergent NO x removal performance due to the crystal-plane effects of CuO. Specifically, the proportion of Cu+ and surface-adsorbed oxygen (Oα) in CuO(111)/TiO2 catalyst was higher than that of CuO(001)/TiO2 catalyst, which could facilitate the NH3-SCR reactions. The NH3-TPD, NO-TPD, and DFT calculations demonstrated the better NH3 and NO adsorption capability of CuO(111)/TiO2 catalyst than that of CuO(001)/TiO2 catalyst. Furthermore, the more -NH2 and nitrate species in CuO(111)/TiO2 catalyst resulted in better NO x removal efficiency than CuO(001)/TiO2 catalyst. This study provides fundamental insights on the crystal-plane effect of CuO, which is critical for optimizing Cu oxide-based NH3-SCR catalysts.

Abstract:A series of supported TiO2/CeO2 catalysts were synthesized to investigate the morphology and crystal-plane effects of CeO2 on these TiO2/CeO2 catalysts for selective catalytic reduction by ammonia (NH3-SCR). The experiment results show that TiO2/CeO2-NC, TiO2/CeO2-NP, and TiO2/CeO2-NR catalysts present nanocubes (mainly exposed {100} facet), nanopolyhedrons (mainly exposed {111} and {100} facets), and nanorods (mainly exposed {110} and {100} facets), respectively. Furthermore, TiO2/CeO2-NR catalyst exhibits the best dispersion of TiO2 species, the most excellent reduction behavior and surface acidity, and the largest amount of Ce3+ ions and chemisorbed oxygen, which is due to the largest specific surface area and pore volume of CeO2-NR support, as well as the strongest interaction between the surface dispersed TiO2 species and the {110} facet of CeO2-NR support. All of them result in the best denitration performance of TiO2/CeO2-NR catalyst during NH3-SCR reaction.
Crystal-Plane Effects on the Catalytic Properties of Au/TiO2

Abstract:In this work, Au nanoparticles are loaded on TiO2 nanocrystals with different crystal planes exposed ({100}, {101}, and {001} planes) to investigate the crystal-plane effect on the catalytic properties of Au/TiO2 catalyst. Kinetic studies of CO oxidation show that the catalytic activities of three as-prepared Au/TiO2 samples follow this order: Au/TiO2-{100} > Au/TiO2-{101} > Au/TiO2-{001}. Furthermore, different mechanisms exist at low temperatures (<320 K) and high temperatures (>320 K). With the help of ex-situ XPS and in situ DRIFTS, the interactions between substrate molecules and different Au/TiO2 interfaces are investigated. We find that the activation of O-2 and the formation and desorption of carbonates are greatly dependent on the crystal planes of the TiO2 support. Furthermore, we use CO oxidation as a probe reaction to study the relationships between surface structures and catalytic properties in Au/TiO2. The catalytic behaviors of three Au/TiO2 catalysts are well correlated with the spectroscopic results. On the basis of this work, we believe that tuning the crystal plane of TiO2 support will be an effective strategy to control the catalytic properties of Au/TiO2.
Catalytic Advancements in NH3 Selective Catalytic Oxidation: The Impact of Cu‐Induced Lattice Distortion in TiO2 Crystal structure

Abstract:A series of xCu ‐TiO2 obtained from the sol‐gel method were tested for NH3 selective catalytic oxidation (NH3‐SCO). Its performance was higher than that of supported Cu/TiO2‐Im and solvent‐free Cu/TiO2‐SF. The catalyst exhibits better water resistance at 300 °C. XRD, Raman, and H2‐TPR proved that the crystal lattice of TiO2 was deformed by Cu doping, which increased the specific surface area of the catalyst. The dispersion of the Cu component is further enhanced. The enhancement of redox potential was the key to improving catalytic activity. The NH3‐TPD results prove that more acidic sites promote more active NH3 species being adsorbed and dissociated on the catalyst surface. The in‐situ DRIFTs results certify that the NH3 species adsorbed on the Lewis acid sites were easier to consume than those on the Brønsted acid sites. The DFT theoretical calculation demonstrates that the doped Cu promotes the TiO2 conduction band to move closer to the Fermi level and enhances the redox performance of the catalyst. The results suggest that the Cu‐TiO2 catalyst was a potential catalyst under actual working conditions, which would provide a technological reserve for the development and diffusion of ammonia slip for both mobile and fixed sources.

Abstract:High-dispersed surface anatase TiO2 modified CuOX-CeOX catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and their activities for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 were investigated. The structure of TiO2 was found to influence the interactions between active components and support, which enhanced the NO adsorption and oxidation on catalyst surface under optimal conditions, thus activated the fast SCR reaction at a low temperature of 100°C.

Abstract:The detailed atomic-level mechanism of the effect induced by engineering the crystal facet of α-MnO2 catalysts on N2O formation during ammonia-selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) was ascertained by combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations and thermodynamics/kinetic analysis. The surface energies of α-MnO2 with specific (100), (110), and (310) exposed planes were calculated, and the adsorptions of NH3, NO, and O2 on three surfaces were analyzed. The adsorption energies showed that NH3 and NO molecules could be strongly adsorbed on the surface of the α-MnO2 catalyst, while the adsorption of O2 was weak. Moreover, the key steps in the oxidative dehydrogenation of NH3 and the formation of NH2NO as well as dissociation of NH2 were studied to evaluate the catalytic ability of NH3-SCR reaction and N2 selectivity. The results revealed that the α-MnO2 catalyst exposed with the (310) plane exhibited the best NH3-SCR catalytic performance and highest N2 selectivity, mainly due to its low energy barriers in NH3 dehydrogenation and NH2NO generation, and difficulty in NH2 dissociation. This study deepens the comprehension of the facet-engineering of α-MnO2 on inhibiting N2O formation during the NH3-SCR, and points out a strategy to improve their catalytic ability and N2 selectivity for the low-temperature NH3-SCR process.
Effect of different exposed crystal surface of CeO2 loading on MnO2/X catalyst for NH3-SCR reaction

Abstract:To study the effect of loading different exposed crystal surface of CeO2 on MnO2/X catalyst for NH3-SCR reaction, Mn/X, Mn-CeNP/X, Mn-CeNC/X and Mn-CeNR/X catalysts were synthesized by solid state diffusion method. SEM, XRD, BET, XPS, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and in situ DRIFTS were used to characterize the physicochemical properties and reaction mechanism of the prepared catalysts. The results exhibted that Mn-CeNC/X catalyst showed superior low-temperature activity in the range of 100-200 °C, and Mn-CeNR/X catalyst showed better N2 selectivity and SO2 resistance in NH3-SCR reaction. It indicated that loading different exposed crystal surface of CeO2 could impose a crucial impact on the SCR performance of Mn/X catalyst. According to the characterization results, the surperior low-temperture SCR activity of Mn-CeNC/X catalyst could be attributed to the abundant acidic sites, excellent reducibility, higher Mn4+/(Mn2++Mn3++Mn4+) ratio and more abundant surface chemisorbed labile oxygen. However, Mn-CeNR/X catalyst exhibited better N2 selectivity in NH3-SCR reaction, which could attributed to the low ratio of Mn4+/(Mn4++Mn3++Mn2+) and the strong adsorption capacity of NO. Finally, a possible reaction pathways and mechanism model of Mn-CeNC/X catalysts were proposed.

Recent Nh3-Scr Mechanism Research over Cu/Sapo-34 Catalyst

Abstract:The preliminary mechanism research of NH3-SCR and NH3 oxidation over Cu/SAPO-34 catalyst is explored. The XRD, SEM, in situ EPR, NH3-SCR, NH3 oxidation test, DRIFTs, and the kinetic tests were performed for the bulk characterization, catalytic activity measurement, and the mechanism estimation. The NH3-SCR result showed that Cu/SAPO-34 revealed excellent activity during 120-600 degrees C, while the NH3 oxidation appeared above 300 degrees C and caused the decline of NO conversion. The order of various reactants (NO, NH3, and O-2 for NH3-SCR and NH3, O-2, for NH3 oxidation) was estimated by the kinetic tests to explain their behaviors during the NH3-SCR process. The NH3-SCR presents strong dependence on adsorbed NH3 species on Cu/SAPO-34, but the NH3 oxidation does not. Furthermore, the EPR experiment proved that the isolated Cu2+ species are the active sites and the ammonia nitrites species are the intermediate for NH3-SCR over Cu/SAPO-34 catalysts. The different behavior of adsorbed NH3 species in NH3-SCR and NH3 oxidation was studied through DRIFTs to explain the competition between the two reactions for NH3 consumption at high temperature. Meanwhile, combining the results of previous research, the primary reaction mechanism over Cu/SAPO-34 during the NH3-SCR process was conducted.
Crystal-plane-dependent metal-support interaction in Au/TiO2

Abstract:Metal-support interactions between Au and TiO2 are studied based on Au/TiO2 catalysts with different TiO2 crystal planes exposed. With ex situ XPS, TEM and in situ DRIFTS, we have investigated the crystal-plane-dependent metal-support interaction effects on the physiochemical properties of Au/TiO2 catalysts. Based on the structural characterization and spectroscopic results, we can observe chemical oscillations (including the electronic structures of Au nanoparticles and the interaction between Au/TiO2 catalysts and CO molecules) during alternate H2 and O2 pre-treatments. Their variation tendencies of oscillations are greatly dependent on the crystal planes of TiO2 and the pre-treatment temperature. Furthermore, their surface and electronic changes after H2 and O2 pre-treatments can be well correlated with their catalytic activities in CO oxidation. Electron-transfer processes across the Au-TiO2 interface are proved to be the origin accounting for their changes after H2 and O2 pre-treatments. The different electronic structures of different TiO2 crystal planes should have relationships with the crystal-plane-dependent metal-support interaction effects in Au/TiO2.
In-situ synthesis of Cu-SSZ-13 catalyst: effect of Si/Al ratio on catalytic performance for NH3-SCR

Abstract:Effects Si/Al ratio on catalytic performance for NH3-SCR of one-pot synthesized Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts are investigated. Catalysts are characterized using various analytical techniques, including H2-TPR, XRD and XRD Rietveld. The result demonstrated that Si/Al ratio had an important impact on content and distribution of active copper species. The best catalyst with Si/Al molar ratio of 10 showed excellent activity and stability. It had the widest temperature window for NH3-SCR.

Abstract:A novel Mo-doped CuO catalyst is developed and used for low-temperature NH3-SCR reaction. Compared with the undoped CuO sample, the Mo doped CuO catalyst shows an increased SCR performance with above 80% NOx conversion at 175 °C. The XRD and Raman results have confirmed the incorporation of Mo metal ions into CuO lattice to form Mo-O-Cu species which may be related to the enhanced SCR activity. The XPS and UV–vis results reveal the creation of electron interaction between Cu and Mo in this Mo-O-Cu system which provides an increased amount of Lewis and Brønsted acid sites, thereby promoting the adsorption capacity of NH3 and NOx as verified by NH3-TPD and NOx-TPD characterization. Besides, it also promotes the formation of oxygen vacancies, leading to the increasing of chemisorbed oxygen species, which improves the NO oxidation to NO2 activity. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS technology was also used to study the reaction mechanism of this Mo doped CuO catalyst. The formed NO2 could react with NHx (x = 3, 2) species to enhance the low-temperature NH3-SCR activity via the “fast-SCR” reaction pathway. The nitrate and nitrite ad-species may react with NH3 and NH4 + ad-species through the L-H pathway.

Improved surface acidity of CeO2/TiO2 catalyst by Cu doping to enhance the SCR catalytic activity

Abstract:The catalyst is based on CeO 2 cannot be widely used in SCR reaction because of its poor NH 3 adsorption performance. In this study, Cu-doped CeTi catalyst was designed. The results show that the CeTiCu0.3 has a wide active temperature window of 200–450 °C in NH 3 -SCR reaction, and NO conversion is > 80%. This is mainly due to the fact that Cu doping provides more acidic sites on the surface of CeTi catalyst, especially the increase of Lewis acid sites is more obvious. NH 3 -TPD showed that CeTiCu0.3 had a large NH 3 adsorption capacity and was mainly adsorbed at Lewis acid sites. In situ DRIFTs results show that NH 3 first adsorbs on the Lewis acid site of catalyst in coordination state and reacts with gaseous NO x , while NO x adsorbed on catalyst surface has low reactivity. Therefore, the CeTiCu0.3 catalyst is mainly controlled by the Eley–Rideal mechanism. More Lewis acid sites, and abunda nt Cu 2+ /Cu + and Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ formed Cu 2+ , Ce 3+ and surface reactive oxygen species are the main reasons for the excellent catalytic performance of CeTiCu.

Abstract:Different Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts are prepared by one-pot synthesis by changing the crystallization time during the reaction and characterized using various analytical techniques, including H-2-temperature program reduction (H-2-TPR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The result demonstrated that the crystallization time had an important impact on the content and distribution of active copper species. The catalysts with proper crystallization time showed excellent activity and hydrothermal stability for the NH3 selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) reaction and the best crystallization time was about 4 d. In the zeolite, the unstable Cu-A(2+) species may be converted to stable Cu-B(2+) species and the Cu2+ species agglomerated together under high-temperature hydrothermal conditions. In conclusion, the collapse of the zeolite structure and the agglomeration of active Cu2+ species were the main reason for the deterioration of the hydrothermal stability.
Influence of texture structures of TiO2 supports on surface properties and SCR performance of V2 O5-MoO3/TiO2 catalyst

Abstract:V2O5-MoO3/TiO2( A,B,C)catalysts for selective catalytic reduction( SCR)denitrification were prepared by using the stepwise impregnation method and TiO2 support with surface area of 101.86 m2·g-1,86.37 m2·g-1,7.78 m2·g-1 respectively[denoted as TiO2(A,B,C)]. The influ-ence of TiO2 texture parameters on the catalytic properties of the catalysts for De-NOx were studied. Under the condition of GHSV 10 000 h-1 and NH3/NO volume ratio 1. 0,NO conversion over catalysts supported on TiO2(A,B)reached more than 90% at(350-450)℃,while the maximum NO conversion over the catalyst supported on TiO2( C)was only 73% at 350 ℃. Besides,the catalysts supported on TiO2( A,B) possessed better resistance performance to sulfur dioxide poisoning and lower oxidation rate of ammonia. The supports and catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction,N2 adsorption-desorption,UV-Vis dif-fuse reflection spectroscopy,H2 temperature-programmed reduction and NH3 temperature-programmed de-sorption. The results showed that compared with the catalysts supported on TiO2( B,C ),V2 O5 was amorphous and highly dispersed on TiO2( A)support,which would be mainly responsible for better redox property and surface acidity,subsequently the higher SCR activity.
Comparison of NH3-SCO Performance over CuOx/H-SSZ-13 and CuOx/H-SAPO-34 Catalysts

Abstract:In this work, CuOx/Chabazite(CHA, SSZ-13, SAPO-34 etc) catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method for ammonia selective catalytic oxidation. CuOx/H-SSZ-13 exhibited superior NH3 conversion and N-2 selectivity compared with CuOx/H-SAPO-34 below 300 degrees C under both dry and wet conditions. The better low-temperature activity of CuOx/H-SSZ-13 was due to its greater NH3 adsorption and activation capacity. DRIFTS results showed that -NH2 and -NH radicals can be observed on the spectra of CuOx/H-SSZ-13, whereas, only -NH2 radicals were obtained on the spectra of CuOx/H-SAPO-34. CuOx (including CuO and Cu2O) were determined as active phases of the catalysts using XRD and XPS results. The catalytic performance of CuOx/CHA catalysts was reversibly suppressed in the presence of H2O and SO2 regarding the formation of NH4HSO4 and (NH4)(2)SO4 on the catalysts surface. Furthermore, CuSO4 was also formed and could not decompose until 700 degrees C. However, it showed less influence on the catalytic performance.
