Abstract:Membrane distillation (MD) is considered an emerging desalination technology. However, the presence of surfactants allows liquid to penetrate the membrane, resulting in membrane wetting, which hinders the commercialization of MD. In this study, we use very few modified materials to prepare novel Janus thin membranes that immobilize modified materials (graphene oxide (GO) and UiO-66-NH 2 ) on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hydrophobic base membranes via crosslinkers. The composite thin membrane properties with eight different ratios and contents of GO and UiO-66-NH 2 were fabricated and tested by a feed solution of sodium chloride containing a high concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate. An optimal ratio of Janus membrane with high flux without affecting the effluent water quality was obtained. The Janus membrane exhibited excellent anti-wetting properties compared to the original PTFE membrane. A desalination rate of up to 99.9% was still available even under 48 h of long-term operating conditions by maintaining a flux of approximately 21.2 L/(m 2 ·h). The anti-wetting mechanism of this membrane was further confirmed by the modified XDLVO model. It suggested that the novel Janus membrane could be a highly promising substitute to the MD process for the resource-based treatment of surfactant-containing wastewater, which played an important role in promoting its application. Firstly, GICs (Graphite Intercalation Compounds) were synthesized by microwave assisted hydrothermal method using flake graphite (FG) as raw material, H 2 SO 4 , and K 2 S 2 O 8 as oxidative intercalations by microwave-assisted oxidation for 5 min, and then EG was prepared from obtained GICs by microwave irradiation for 40 s under the microwave power of 800 W, and the effect of different process conditions on EG expansion volume (EV) was studied. The results show that EG with a good expansion can be rapidly prepared by microwave irradiation, and the EV value can reach 455 mL /g under the optimal conditions. In particular, the prepared EG has a high graphitization degree with less structural damage, exihibiting good industrial application prospects. The mechanism of K 2 S 2 O 8 oxidation and graphite expansion under microwave irradiation was analyzed. In adition, flexible graphite foil papers prepared with the obtained EG exhibit good electrical conductivity and thermal properties. The as prepared EG material shows an efficient adsorption of hydraulic oil and vegetable oil and excellent flame retardant performance. This preparation method is green, low cost, and safe, and can be used for the efficient batch preparation of EG. Recently, the adsorption process has attracted a lot of attention in the purification and separation industries because of its simplicity, ease of use, and environment friendly nature. In the present study, metal–organic framework (MOF) derived beads have been examined to remove tartrazine from aqueous solutions via batch adsorption experiments. An UiO-66 MOF synthesized through a hydrothermal process was transformed into highly robust millimeter-sized beads using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) containing 50 % MOF by weight. The properties of the composite beads were determined using several characterization techniques. The effect of parameters such as initial pH, adsorption time, initial tartrazine concentration, and temperature on the adsorption process was also investigated. After 120 min of contact time, the dye adsorption equilibrium was achieved at optimum pH of 2.0 with dye removal reaching 97 %. The analysis of kinetic data confirmed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order model with the best linearity. The adsorption isotherm models concluded that the Langmuir model was better suited to describe dye adsorption on the beads. Regeneration studies showed that the adsorbent can be used effectively for at least five cycles without any substantial loss in the adsorption capacity. With the depletion of traditional fossil fuels, biomass has evolved as a new environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative energy source. Ni/CaO catalysts are promising for CO 2 capture and biomass catalytic use. In this study, we examined four different synthesis modes for Ni/CaO catalysts: -Abstract Truncated-
