Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp(3)) - H bond aminocarbonylation of 8-methylquinolines and isocyanates has been realized under mild conditions. This approach is applicable to different aryl and alkyl isocyanates, leading to the synthesis of various alpha-quinolinyl amide compounds in moderate to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed according to the experimental results obtained.

Abstract:Although copper-catalyzed amination of activated C(sp3)-H bonds through radical relay has been developed, amination of unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds is rare. Herein, copper-catalyzed intramolecular amination of remote unactivated C(sp3)-H bonds is reported. The reaction is conducted in a mild and effective manner with moderate to good yields, demonstrating broad tolerance toward various functional groups and exhibiting complete regio- and chemoselectivities. This innovation supplies novel synthetic pathways for the construction of saturated nitrogenated heterocycles.

Abstract:A Ru-catalyzed intermolecular silylation of unreactive, aliphatic C(sp(3))-H bonds has been described for the first time. This protocol features low catalyst loading, a relatively broad substrate spectrum, good functional group tolerance, and no sensitivity to air, which provides a convenient and practical pathway for the construction of C-Si bonds.

Abstract:C-N Bond formation is of great significance due to the ubiquity of nitrogen-containing compounds. Here, a mild and efficient RhIII-catalyzed C(sp(3))-H aryl amination reaction is reported. Anthranil is employed as the nitrogen source with 100% atom efficiency. This C-H amination reaction exhibits broad substrate scope without using any external oxidants. Mechanistic studies including rhodacycle intermediates, H-D exchange, kinetic isotope effect (KIE) experiments, and in situ IR are presented.

Abstract:The formation of C–N bonds is a fundamental bond construction in organic synthesis. In this context, a [RhCp*Cl2]2/AgSbF6 system was developed for the C2‐amination of ketoximes with anthranils with the use of Piv2O as a promoter. Piv2O played an important role in the generation of catalytically active species with [RhCp*Cl2]2. The oxime unit was revealed to be effective chelating groups to activate the aryl C–H bond. The amination shows a wide substrates scope, and several important functional groups were tolerated under the benign reaction conditions.

Abstract:Ligand development for rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H activation reactions has largely been limited to cyclopentadienyl (Cp) based scaffolds. 2-Methylquinoline has now been identified as a feasible ligand that can coordinate to the metal center of Cp*RhCl to accelerate the cleavage of the C-H bond of N-pentafluorophenylbenzamides, providing a new structural lead for ligand design. The compatibility of this reaction with secondary free amines and anilines also overcomes the limitations of palladium(II)-catalyzed C-H amination reactions.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:An additive-assisted iridium-catalyzed directed C(sp3)-H amination with 2,2,2-trichloroethoxycarbonyl azide as an amino source is reported. Both carboxylate anions and the corresponding cations in the additives are crucial to achieve satisfactory efficiency. Sodium acetate or n-pentanoic acid can promote the amination of various primary C(sp3)-H bonds adjacent to secondary, tertiary, and quaternary carbons in ketoximes or N-aromatic heterocycles, respectively, providing a practical route to versatile β-amino ketoxime and N-heteroaryl ethanamine derivatives. The amination products can be treated as isocyanate analogues and can be converted to other useful amino functionalities. An iridacyclic compound was isolated and identified as a plausible intermediate.

Abstract:The mechanism of Rh‐catalyzed C(sp3)–H amination has been computationally investigated. The reaction mechanism mainly involves sequential C(sp3)–H activation, decarboxylation, nitrene migration insertion, and protonation steps. Competitive concerted metalation deprotonation (CMD) and external base assisted deprotonation (EBAD) pathways are found for the involved C(sp3)–H activation in both Rh and Co analogous systems. This is different from the previously reported C(sp2)–H activation, where the CMD is dominant. The key mechanistic difference between the two systems is found to be in the C(sp3)–H activation step. In comparison with Rh species, the lower activity of Co complex toward the C(sp3)–H activation could be ascribed to smaller atomic size of Co and thus larger steric repulsion between ancillary ligand and substrate along with the CMD pathway. In view of the EBAD pathway, however, the lower activity of Co species could be imputed to the triplet nature of Co center, which is against the electron transfer from the electron‐rich carbon atom of the deprotonating C(sp3)–H bond to the Co center. As to the subsequent decarboxylation and nitrene insertion steps, compared with the Co system, the relatively lower reactivity of Rh species is partially due to the stronger Rh–N bond, and the higher π(Rh–N) and π*(Rh–N) orbital energies of the corresponding transition state structure.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Utilizing 1,10-phenanthroline-type bifunctional ligands, an efficient Cu-catalyzed intermolecular site-selective remote C–H amination using cyclohexenone derivatives and anilines was realized. The amide group installed on the bifunctional ligand played a key role in stabilizing the N-centered radical generated in situ to realize C–N-directed formation. Meanwhile, a useful catalytic system for site-selective intermolecular remote γ-C–H amination to p-aminophenols and γ-aminated enones was established. This economical and practical approach using oxygen as the terminal oxidant was mild and environmentally friendly.

Abstract:Palladium(II) catalysis was found to be effective for intramolecular C–H amination in water. With 2‐azidobiphenyls as substrates, the reaction efficiently provided various carbazoles with N2 as the sole byproduct. The reaction showed high functional‐group tolerance and could be used in the synthesis of several natural carbazole alkaloids. The catalytic process was promoted by water, and the reaction was inefficient in the organic solvents that were investigated.

Abstract:The catalytic activity of a rhodium( II ) dimer complex, [Rh II (TMAA)] 2 (TMAA = tetramethyltetraaza[14]annulene), in C–H amination reactions with organic azides is explored. Organic azides (N 3 –R) with an electron-withdrawing group such as a sulfonyl group (trisylazide; R = S(O) 2 iPr3 C 6 H 2 (Trs)) and a simple alkyl group (R = (CH 2 ) 4 Ph, (CH 2 ) 2 OCH 2 Ph, CH 2 Ph, or C 6 H 4 NO 2 ) are employed in intra- and intermolecular C–H bond amination reactions. The spectroscopic analysis using ESI-mass and EPR spectroscopy techniques on the reaction intermediate generated from [Rh II (TMAA)] 2 and N 3 –R reveals that a rhodium( III )–nitrenoid species is an active oxidant in the C–H bond amination reaction. DFT calculations suggest that the species can feature a radical localised nitrogen atom. The DFT calculation studies also indicate that the amination reaction involves hydrogen atom abstraction from the organic substrate R′–H by the NR moiety of 2 N ̇R and successive rebound of the generated organic radical intermediate R′ ̇ to [Rh III (NH–R)(TMAA)], giving [Rh II (TMAA)] and R′–NH–R (amination product).

Abstract:Herein, we describe a Cu(I)/phosphoric acid catalyzed intramolecular radical tertiary C(sp3)–H amination of N‐chlorosulfonamide, providing an applicable route to the pyrrolidine structural motifs bearing an α‐quaternary stereocenter (>20 examples with up to 94% yield). Mechanistic studies indicate that the reaction involves an intramolecular 1,5‐hydrogen atom transfer process to form the key tertiary C‐centered radical followed by a C–N bond formation. The corresponding enantioselective amination is accordingly disclosed by Cu(I)/chiral phosphoric acid catalyst to afford the chiral products with up to 81% enantiomeric excess (ee). This strategy is anticipated to facilitate the development of tertiary C(sp3)–H functionalization.
