Abstract:Constructing heterostructural composite with superior electrochemical activity has been recognized as an effective strategy for enhancing the energy storage ability of supercapacitors(SCs). However, it is still a great challenge to design novel composite materials with desirable electrochemical property. In this study, the 3D/2D heterostructural Ni-Co-Se/MXene composites were successfully prepared by hydrothermal selenization method from MOF precursors. The unique 3D/2D hierarchical structure could efficiently take advantage of excellent conductivity of MXene and high capacity of the Ni-Co-Se microspheres, thus enhancing the charge transfer kinetics and improving the electrochemical storage of hybrid electrodes. As expected, the Ni-Co-Se/MXene-3 electrode delivered a remarkable specific capacity of 1832.4 C/g at 1 A/g, high-rate capability (as high as 85.3 % at 20 A/g) and impressive long-term stability (95.3 % capacity retention after 5000 GCD cycles). Additionally, the developed Ni-Co-Se/MXene-3//AC hybrid supercapacitor delivered a high specific capacitance of 186.3 F/g at 1 A/g, and excellent cyclic life. This device also demonstrated a satisfactory energy density of 76.8 Wh/kg at a power density of 0.86 kW/kg, which outperformed most recently reported related supercapacitors. These results offer a prototype for devising and constructing heterostructural hybrid electrodes for energy-storage devices with outstanding electrochemical performances.
Mn0.5co2.5o4 Nanofibers Sandwiched in Graphene Sheets for Efficient Supercapacitor Electrode Materials

Abstract:Self-assembled manganese cobalt oxide (Mn0.5Co2.5O4) nanofibers sandwiched in graphene sheets (Mn0.5Co2.5O4@G) are successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal treatment and annealing process. Owning to the unique sandwich-like structures, rich active sites, and boosted electrical conductivity, Mn0.5Co2.5O4@G composite demonstrates superior electrochemical performance for potential supercapacitors. In a three-electrode system, it exhibits excellent cycling stability with a specific capacitance retention of 93.8% after 10 000 cycles at a current density of 10 A g(-1,) and achieves specific capacitances of 617 and 434 F g(-1) at the ultrahigh current densities of 30 and 40 A g(-1), respectively. For an asymmetric supercapacitor of Mn0.5Co2.5O4@G/AC, high energy densities of 36.8 and 13.6 W h kg(-1) are also achieved at power densities of 147.3 and 3755.8 W kg(-1), respectively. It is believed that the synthesized Mn0.5Co2.5O4@G composite can be a promising electrode material for high-performance supercapacitors, and the present synthetic strategy can be further extended for designing many other functional composites with desirable nanostructures and performance.

Abstract:3D CoNi2S4‐graphene‐2D‐MoSe2 (CoNi2S4‐G‐MoSe2) nanocomposite is designed and prepared using a facile ultrasonication and hydrothermal method for supercapacitor (SC) applications. Because of the novel nanocomposite structures and resultant maximized synergistic effect among ultrathin MoSe2 nanosheets, highly conductive graphene and CoNi2S4 nanoparticles, the electrode exhibits rapid electron and ion transport rate and large electroactive surface area, resulting in its amazing electrochemical properties. The CoNi2S4‐G‐MoSe2 electrode demonstrates a maximum specific capacitance of 1141 F g−1, with capacitance retention of ≈108% after 2000 cycles at a high charge–discharge current density of 20 A g−1. As to its symmetric device, 109 F g−1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1 is exhibited. This pioneering work should be helpful in enhancing the capacitive performance of SC materials by designing nanostructures with efficient synergetic effects.

Abstract:Transition-metal selenide electrodes have recently attracted increasing interest in supercapacitors resulting from their superior electrochemical performance, lower-cost, and environmental friendliness. Herein, we report a novel bimetallic Ni-Co selenide nanosheet/three-dimensional (3D) graphene/nickel foam binder-free electrode (NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF) prepared via chemical vapor deposition followed by a simple two-step hydrothermal process in this paper. The NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs array vertically on 3D G/NF with a uniform and stable structure without using any chemical binders. This novel electrode is flexible, highly conductive, and exhibits an excellent specific capacitance of ∼742.4 F g-1 at 1 mA cm-2. Furthermore, with a 10-fold increase to 10 mA cm-2, it still retains 471.78 F g-1 and a high cycling stability of ∼83.8% of the initial retention after 1000 cycles at 10 mA cm-2, demonstrating that NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF binder-free electrode has potential for energy storage application in high-performance supercapacitor fields.

Abstract:Novel ternary electrode materials based on graphene, NiCo2S4, and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) were designed and fabricated with the intention of exploiting synergistic effects conducive to supercapacitive energy storage. Compared to NiCo2S4-g-MoSe2, the NiCo2S4-g-MoS2 electrode exhibited higher specific capacitance, enhanced rate capability (1002 F g(-1) even at 5 A g(-1), 6.01 F cm(-2) at a current density of 25 mA cm(-2)) and cycling stability (94.8% retention of its original capacity after cycling 4000 times). The mechanism was proposed and this pioneering work will be helpful in making judicious choices of which 2D materials to be selected for supercapacitor applications in the future.
Enhanced Supercapacitor Performance Based on 3D Porous Graphene with MoO2 Nanoparticles

Abstract:Three dimensional (3D) porous graphene decorated with MoO2 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method and characterized by SEM and TEM, x-ray diffraction, Raman spectra, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption analysis and electrochemical experiments. The results revealed that the in situ formed monoclinic MoO2 nanoparticles were randomly decorated on the surface of graphene sheets and the obtained graphene–MoO2 nanohybrids were 3D porous structures. The mass ratio of molybdenum precursor with GO has effects on the specific surface area and the electrochemical properties of the nanocomposite. The M30G1 (the mass ratio of molybdenum precursor with GO was 30:1) composite electrode exhibited a higher specific capacitance and better cycling stability. The specific capacitances were 356 F/g at the current density of 0.1 A/g in KOH electrolyte, which predicted their potential application in energy storage. The electrochemical performance of M30G1 composite was also investigated in Na2SO4 electrolyte, which was poorer than that in KOH electrolyte. Therefore, the chosen of electrolyte is important to materials performance.

Abstract:Nickel molybdate is emerged as a promising electrode material in supercapacitors for its rich redox chemistry. However, its limited electrical and ionic conductivities keep it from achieving its full capacitance potential. Here, a facile pathway is reported to synthesize NiMoO4/Ti3C2Tx nanosheets with interconnected porous construction, which may promote the electrolyte ion diffusion during reversible insertion/deinsertion processes, further improve its capacity. The fabricated NiMoO4/Ti3C2Tx electrode exhibits a high specific capacity of 545.5 C g(-1) (1364 F g(-1)) at a current density of 0.5 A g(-1) alongside with attractive cycling stability, contributed to the strong synergistic effects between NiMoO4 and Ti3C2Tx. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor is fabricated by coupling NiMoO4/Ti3C2Tx positive electrode with reduced graphene oxide hydrogel negative electrode, which demonstrates a broad potential window of 1.6 V, and an energy density of 33.76 Wh kg(-1).
MnCo2S4 Nanoparticles Anchored to N- and S-codoped 3D Graphene As a Prominent Electrode for Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:Binary composites MnCo2S4 nanoparticles are potential and attractive materials for supercapacitors. Here, we synthesis the MnCo2S4 nanoparticles anchored on both N and S co-doped 3D graphene composites via a facile two-step controlled sulfurization route. Thiourea contents shows strong effect on the nanostructures and electrochemical properties of the 3D composites. When adjusting the molar ratio of thiourea to Mn2+ as 48:1, the optimal composite electrode achieves a largest specific capacitance of 1324.3 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1), with high conductivity, excellent rate performance and outstanding cyclic stability due to its unique structural advantages. Moreover, we fabricate an asymmetric supercapacitor with an operating voltage of 1.5 V using the composite and N, S co-doped graphene nanosheets as both electrodes and it delivers a high energy density of 62.9 Wh kg(-1) at a power density of 0.74 kWkg(-1), and 28.0 Wh kg(-1) at a power density of 1.80 kW kg(-1), which are higher than those of reported similar devices. 3D Ternary Nanocomposites of Molybdenum Disulfide/Polyaniline/Reduced Graphene Oxide Aerogel for High Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:In this study, we report a feasible method to synthesize a ternary nanocomposite, molybdenum disulfide/polyaniline/reduced graphene oxide aerogel (MoS2/PANI/rGO), via a two-step approach. Molybdenum disulfide/polyaniline (MoS2/PANI) is prepared by in situ polymerization. Graphene oxide is well-dispersed by loading MoS2/PANI nanoparticles (50-80 nm in size) and reduced using urea via a hydrothermal treatment, achieving the ternary nanocomposite. As for the composites prepared at different mass ratios of MoS2/PANI to rGO, the ternary MoS2/PANI/rGO with a mass ratio of 1:1 has a high specific capacitance of 618 F g(-1) at 1.0 A g(-1) and 476 F g(-1) at 20 A g(-1) with a retainment of 96% in a three-electrode system, in comparison to the specific capacitance of 418 F g(-1) at 1.0 A g(-1) and 78% retained capacitance after 2000 cycles of MoS2/PANI electrode. The combined effects between the three components in the ternary composite aerogels taking advantage of both charging and faradaic processes can readily explain the excellent electrochemical performance. A 2D Metal–organic Framework/reduced Graphene Oxide Heterostructure for Supercapacitor Application

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with two dimensional (2D) nanosheets have attracted special attention for supercapacitor application due to their exceptional large surface area and high surface-to-volume atom ratios. However, their electrochemical performance is greatly hindered by their poor electrical conductivity. Herein, we report a 2D nanosheet nickel cobalt based MOF (NiCo-MOF)/reduced graphene oxide heterostructure as an electrode material for supercapacitors. The NiCo-MOF 2D nanosheets are in situ grown on rGO surfaces by simple room temperature precipitation. In such hybrid structure the MOF ultrathin nanosheets provide large surface area with abundant channels for fast mass transport of ions while the rGO conductive and physical support provides rapid electron transport. Thus, using the synergistic advantage of rGO and NiCo-MOF nanosheets an excellent specific capacitance of 1553 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1) is obtained. Additionally, the as synthesized hybrid material showed excellent cycling capacity of 83.6% after 5000 cycles of charge-discharge. Interestingly, the assembled asymmetric device showed an excellent energy density of 44 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 3168 W kg(-1). The electrochemical performance obtained in this report illustrates hybridization of MOF nanosheets with carbon materials is promising for next generation supercapacitors.

Abstract:This research prepares a new Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2 flower-like particles by hydrothermal sulfidation. Fumaric acid is used as a carbon source to synthesize three-dimensional graphene (3DG) to disperse Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2 flower-like particles to obtain Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2/3DG composite material. The Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2/3DG-10 has the best electrochemical performance. The specific capacitance of Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2/3DG-10 is up to 2454.1 F g(-1) at current density of 1 A g(-1). In addition, at two-electrode applications, the energy density of Ni0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2/3DG-10//AC is as high as 51.7 Wh kg(-1). After 8000 cycles at a current density of 10 A g(-1), the capacitance attenuation of Ni-0.96S/NiS/Ni3S2/3DG-10//AC is only 7.8%. The interaction between different phases can increase the storage space of charge. The special flower-like morphology can provide extra large buffer space for volume changes, thus improving the cyclic stability of the material. Furthermore, Appropriate 3DG quality can effectively improve the dispersion of particles, accelerate electrolyte penetration and ion transport, and give full display to the synergy between pseudo-capacitance and double layer capacitance. Therefore, this research provides a new idea for designing a metal sulfide composite carbon material with a controllable structure and applying it to energy storage equipment.
Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon Nanofibers Fabricated by Electrospinning as Electrode Material for High-Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:As an Mn+1AXn phase ternary layered carbide, Ti₃SiC₂ possesses the advantages of both excellent stability and high electrical conductivity, which are considered to be promising electrode materials for supercapacitors. Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon nanofiber composites with one-dimensional nanostructures were successfully synthesized via electrospinning. Systematic electrochemical tests showed that the Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon composite possesses a large specific capacitance of 133.1 F/g at the current density of 1 A/g, high rate capability of 113.7% capacitance retention from 1 to 10 A/g, and low resistance of 1.07 Ω. After assembling the asymmetrical supercapacitor, Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon provides the energy density of 7.02 Wh/kg at the power density of 140 W/kg. In addition, Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon composite is highly stable, with 74.6% capacity retention after 4000 cycles. Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon's superior electrochemical properties are ascribed to the 1D nanowire structure and the high specific surface area. Ti₃SiC₂/Carbon is a prospective electrode material for future supercapacitors.
Hierarchical Porous Reduced Graphene Oxide Decorated with Molybdenum Disulfide for High-Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:Two-dimensional materials are relevant for supercapacitor applications due to their excellent electrical, thermal, and physical properties. In this study, one-pot solvothermal method with I-cysteine mixed in ethylene glycol is utilized to prepare S/N co-doped reduced graphene oxide, which is decorated with molybdenum disulfide. Furthermore, these two-dimensional sheets are found to form three-dimensional hydrogel architectures. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy show this compound gel with hierarchical porous structure. The specific surface area of this compound gel is estimated to 151.41 m(2) g(-1), which is larger than that of S/N co-doped reduced graphene oxide gel (28.98 m(2) g(-1)). This composite is used to fabricate binder-free electrodes. The electrochemical tests reveal high specific capacitance of the electrodes reaching up 400.10 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1). The symmetric supercapacitors assembled by two similar S/N co-doped reduced graphene oxide/molybdenum disulfide electrodes deliver specific capacitance as high as 95.10 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1) with capacitance retention of 91.32% after 5000 cycles. These results demonstrate that S/N co-doped reduced graphene oxide/molybdenum disulfide composite with hierarchical porous structure is promising binder-free material for high-performance supercapacitors. Abstract:Nickel molybdate (NiMoO4) nanowires were prepared by hydrothermal method on chemical-vapor-deposition-grown three-dimensional graphene skeletons. The X-ray diffraction and Raman results show NiMoO4 nanowires are α phase. This binder-free and ultralight graphene/ NiMoO4 composite was used as a positive electrode for supercapacitors. This electrode presents a high specific capacitance of 1194Fg−1 at 12mAcm−2 and good stability with a cycling efficiency of 87.3% after 2000 cycles. Further, the deduced energy density reaches 41Whkg−1 at a steady power density of 1319Wkg−1. These results demonstrate the potential application of the designed composite for future flexible and lightweight energy storage devices.

Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been stimulated in extensive researches due to its layered structure and the potential as an electrochemical energy material. However, the effects on electrochemical performance of concentration of MoS2 are rarely mentioned. In this paper, the effects of different concentrated layered MoS2 on the morphology and electrochemical properties of the composite of MoS2 and three-dimensional graphene (MoS2/3DG) were discussed. The results show that layered MoS2 was successfully compounded to 3DG and formed a vertical crosslinking structure. It can be observed that MoS2 nanosheets are vertically loaded on the inner and outer surface of graphene when the concentration of MoS2 is 0.20mg/L. The specific capacitance of composite (MoS2 (0.20mg/L)/3DG) reaches 2182.33mF/cm2 at the current density of 1mA/cm2, and the specific capacitance remains 116.83% after 5000 cycles. When the current density increased 100 times (from 1mA/cm2 to 100mA/cm2), the specific capacitance retains 78.9%. Meanwhile, the hybrid energy storage devises can deliver an energy density of 130.34Wh/m2. The superior electrochemical properties are attributed to the synergistic effect of MoS2 and 3DG. Therefore, the material has a potential application on supercapacitor electrode material.
Novel FeNi2S4/TMD-based Ternary Composites for Supercapacitor Applications

Abstract:Ternary Ni-Co-Mo oxy-hydroxide nanoflakes grown on carbon cloth was successfully fabricated based on a facile hydrothermal method. This composite product consists of three components: Ni-Co double hydroxide and Mo oxide. As a novel electrode material for pseudocapacitors, the Ni-Co-Mo oxyhydroxide nanoflakes on carbon cloth exhibit excellent electrochemical properties, with a specific capacitance of 2562 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1), and a good cycling stability. The excellent electrochemical performance can be attributed to the large specific surface area and the enhanced conductivity achieved through incorporating of Mo. By virtue of simple fabrication procedures and enhanced electrochemical performance, such ternary oxy-hydroxide nanoflakes have highly promising potential for energy storage devices.
