Abstract:A promisingsulfatedzirconia(SZ)A promising sulfated zirconia (SZ) was successfully synthesized to remove olefins from aromatics. The effects of type and quantity of precipitant, the concentration of impregnants and the calcination temperature were studied, and the synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TG-DTG, FTIR, N2 adsorption analysis and the FTIR pyridine adsorption (py-IR) techniques. This catalyst was found to be superiorly active as compared with the commercial ROC, which exhibited promising application prospects in industry. The optimum synthesis variables required that SZ was impregnated with 2.0 mol/L sulfuric acid and calcined at 650 ℃ , and the precursor was precipitated by ammonium hydroxide to reach eventually a pH value of over 9.46. The addition of SO4 2- species increased the amount of catalytically active t-ZrO2, which was helpful to an increasing abundance of acid sites for enhancing the activity. Meanwhile, the calcination temperature had a great effect on the structure, composition and properties of sulfated zirconia.

Abstract:A novel sulfated zirconia (ZrO2/SO42−) catalyst was prepared and the catalytic property of this catalyst was compared with active clay and zeolite (USY) in removing olefins from aromatics. Pyridine-FTIR indicated that the abundance of Lewis acid centers on sulfated zirconia is a vital factor for its excellent catalytic activity. N2 adsorption analysis shows that sulfated zirconia is a promising mesopore catalyst material. The superior catalytic performance as well as efficient reusability demonstrated that sulfated zirconia possesses bright application prospects in industry.

Abstract:Metal-reinforced sulfonic-acid-modified zirconia catalysts were successfully prepared and used to remove trace olefins from aromatics in a fixed-bed reactor. Catalysts were characterized by ICP-OES, N-2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and pyridine-FTIR spectroscopy. Different metals and calcination temperatures had great influence on the catalytic activity. Alumina-reinforced sulfated zirconia exhibited outstanding catalytic performance, stable regeneration activity, and giant surface area, and are promising in industrial catalysis. TGA showed that the decomposition of methyl could be attributed to Bronsted acid sites, and pyridine-FTIR spectroscopy proved the weak Bronsted sites on these synthesized metal-reinforced sulfated zirconia. Also, a relation between the reaction rate and weak Bronsted acid density is proposed.

Abstract:: Sulfated zirconia was synthesized adopting chlorosulfonic acid as a novel sulfonating reagent, with significantly improved sulfur content and less sulfur leaching than conventional sulfated zirconia. The optimized sulfonation process, guided by the incipient-wetness impregnation method, reduced the waste of energy and environmental pollution caused by the excess acid solution to a certain extent. The catalysts were characterized using EA, TGA, FTIR, XPS, XRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM, N2 adsorption- desorption isotherms, and pyridine-adsorbed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (Py-FTIR) techniques to investigate the effect of synthesis variables on the physicochemical properties of the catalysts in detail. Further, the catalytic performance of these catalysts in alkylation for removing trace olefins from aromatics was systematically evaluated using a continuous-flow fixed-bed tubular microreactor. It was evident from the results that the synthesis variables, such as the concentration of chlorosulfonic acid, sulfonation time, and calcination temperature, were significant factors affecting the surface sulfur species and structural, textural, acidic properties as well as catalytic properties of the as-synthesized catalysts. The CSZ650-(0.75, 5) catalyst, synthesized by sulfonation with 0.75 M chlorosulfonic acid for 5 min and by air calcination at 650 degrees C, exhibited more outstanding catalytic performance than various other typical heterogeneous catalysts, such as sulfated zirconia synthesized by sulfuric acid, zeolites, and acid clay. The negligible decrease in catalytic activity over four catalytic runs revealed the excellent reusability of the CSZ650-(0.75, 5) catalyst, making the catalyst promising for industrial applications

Abstract:Sulfated zirconia, as a promising catalyst in various acid-catalytic reactions, still suffer from unsatisfactory catalytic stability and regeneration performance due to severe leaching of sulfur species, while aluminum modification can effectively overcome these drawbacks. Unfortunately, the limited acceptability of aluminum content by co-precipitation and milling methods remains a critical issue. Herein, an effective strategy of coating sulfated zirconia on the surface of gamma-Al2O3 was developed to synthesize the novel Al2O3@SO42-/ZrO2 catalyst with high aluminum content. The synthesis variables were investigated and systematically optimized. The structural and acidic properties of Al2O3@SO42-/ZrO2 were determined by XRD, HR-TEM equipped with EDX, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, EA, FT-IR, NH3-TPD and Py-FTIR. Results indicated that the unique structure constructed by sulfated zirconia coated on gamma-Al2O3 not only realized the stabilization of favorable tetragonal zirconia phase even at exceedingly high aluminum content but also promoted Bronsted acid sites. Accordingly, the optimal Al2O3@SO42-/ZrO2-50% performed outstanding catalytic activity and stability, given the olefins conversion of 98%-75% during the continuous reaction experiment. Owing to the alleviation of sulfur loss by Al-promoting effects, excellent regeneration performance, with olefins conversion only slightly declining after 4 consecutive reaction-regeneration cycles, was also obtained. The mechanistic pathway for the alkylation of olefins with aromatics over Al2O3@SO42-/ZrO2 was also investigated and proposed by GC-MS analysis.

Abstract:Sulfated zirconia was synthesized by a one step solvent-free method; directly mixing Zr(OH)(4) and (NH4)(2)SO4. The entire synthesis process produces no wastewater, which is environmentally friendly. The synthesis factor (mole ratio of (NH4)(2)SO4:Zr(OH)(4)) is the main point to test catalytic activity. Structural properties are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The acid property is characterized by pyridine-FTIR The S coverage (X10(-6) mol S.m(-2))-Lewis acidic sites density (mmol.m(2)) relationship in sulfated zirconia reveals, that the generation order of Lewis acidic sites is from weak ones to strong ones. Calculation of acid property reveals the positive structural functional relationship (W-L/S-L catalytic activity). Weak Lewis acidic sites (W-L) promote the activity toward removal olefins, while strong Lewis acidic sites (S-L) speed up the deactivation of catalysts. The superior catalytic performance as well as environmentally friendly synthesis method dernonstrates that solvent-free sulfated zirconia has bright application prospects in industry.

Abstract:The composite catalysts of TiO2/SiO2 were prepared though a sol-gel process followed by the calcination crystallization process. The inexpensive precursors, titanium sulfate and fly ash acid sludge, were used as providing titania and silica sources, respectively. The decomposition of fly ash acid sludge was digested with NaOH to extract silica, and the obtained sodium silicate was used to prepare TiO2/SiO2 composite. The effect of calcination temperature on the structure of TiO2/SiO2 composites was studied by means of XRD, BET, FTIR, SEM, photocatalysis and adsorption test. It was found that the anatase-to-rutile phase transition temperature of TiO2/ SiO2 composite powders was significantly higher than that of pure TiO2. The presence of the Ti-O-Si bond was confirmed in the final products when the incorporation of titania into silica were performed. The photocatalytic performance of TiO2/SiO2 composite annealed at different temperatures was evaluated by Rhodamine B (RhB) as the target pollutant under visible-light irradiation. Results indicated that the sample exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity when the calcination temperature is up to 600 degrees C. After 4 h visible-light irradiation, about 90% of RhB was removed by this type of photocatalysts.

Abstract:A solid super-acid catalyst SO42-/Fe2O3-ZrO2 (FeSZ) was prepared by coprecipitation method to remove olefins from aromatics. Effects of iron sources and Fe2O3 content were studied. FeSZ and /ZrO2 (SZ) were characterized by XRD, FT-IR and NH3-TPD. The characterization of the catalysts revealed that the addition of iron purified the tetragonal phase of ZrO2, increased the strength of the acid sites. Catalytic activity test showed that FeSZ with 5 wt% Fe2O3, using Fe-2 (SO4)(3) as iron source, exhibited the highest activity for removal of olefins. Compared with SZ, the catalytic activity of FeSZ increased 6.1%.

Abstract:New catalysts with zeolites as the active component and alumina as support for removing trace amounts of olefins from aromatic hydrocarbons have been studied. The structure, content of sodium and acid property of β, Y, X, M and ZSM-5 molecular sieves were investigated in the akylation reaction of aromatic hydrocarbons. The effects of the promoters on the activity and life of the molecular sieve catalysts were also studied. The result indicated that the life of the molecular sieve catalysts was 10 hours longer than the clay which causes severe pollution. Compared to the clay, the new catalysts also increased the olefin selectivity by 40.5%.

Abstract:In order to study the development and stability of the structure of the catalyst, ultrafine particle CuO/ZrO2 catalyst (aerogel) was prepared by hydrogel-ethanolgel process followed by supercritical fluid drying (SCFD) method, then calcinated in flowing air at temperatures up to 923 K. The porous texture was rather stable compared with the data from literature. The crystallite of the catalyst changed greatly with increasing temperature: copper (oxide) from none (highly dispersed) to tenorite CuO and Cu, ZrO2 from tetragonal to monoclinic. At the same time, some of the morphology properties (such as SBET and Vp) decreased, but some of them (such as Rp, Da and d?) increased significantly with increasing temperature. For comparison, xerogel catalyst was also prepared. The aerogel-type showed better properties and higher stability than that of xerogel-type.

Abstract:A series of CeO 2 ZrO 2 and CeO 2 ZrO 2 La\-2O\-3 solid solutions were prepared by modified sol gel method and organic solvent decomposition method. The phase, structure and thermal stability of solid solutions were investigated by XRD and LRS at different calcining temperatures. The oxygen storage capacity(OSC), BET surface area and catalytic activity of these samples were also evaluated. A combined analysis of XRD and LRS can give precise information on the structure and phase purity of CeO 2 ZrO 2 solid solutions. It is shown that the product of modified sol gel method possesses higher OSC, purer fluorite cubic phase ,but lower thermal stability than that of organic solvent decomposition method. It is also shown that the light off temperatures of CO, NO and C 3H 6 for aged catalysts containing CZO or LCZO are much lower than that of containing CeO 2 in synthetic car exhaust.

Herein, a three-dimensional ordered macroporous Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 supported Pt nanoparticle monolithic catalyst (Pt/OM CZO) was synthesized to investigate these effects. Our findings uncover the diverse effects of SO2: Upon SO2 treatment, the coupling between the S 3p and Pt 5d orbitals promotes the Pt-O-SO3 structure in situ formed on the catalyst surface. The propene (C3H6) molecule readily binds with the oxygen atom in Pt-O-SO3, resulting in the accumulation of acetone and carbon deposition, thereby hindering C3H6 oxidation. Conversely, a cleaved oxygen atom within the Pt-O-SO3 structure enhances propane (C3H8) adsorption and activates the C-H bond, facilitating C3H8 oxidation. These insights are pivotal for advancing the frontier of sulfur-tolerant catalysts, addressing both economic and environmental challenges.

Abstract:The commercial clay modified with zeolite and La2O3 was characterized by thermoprogrammed desorption (t.p.d.) of NH3 and pyridine adsorption followed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The result showed that the weak Lewis acid plays an important role in the alkylation reaction between olefin and aromatics which obeyed the carbonium ion mechanism. The industrial test was conducted in the 450kt/a industrial PX device at Sinopec Zhenhai Company for removing trace olefins from aromatics. It has been proved that the life cycle of the catalyst was 5.3 times that of the commercial clay. The kinetics formula for deactivation rates was explored and the result showed that the rate of clay was much higher than the catalyst deactivation rate.

Abstract:In this paper, the homemade zeolites have been used as the active component with kaolinite clay and boehmite as the carrier to prepare new catalysts. The performance of each new catalyst was studied both in a batch and a flowreactor system. Life tests were also measured. Catalyst characterization was performed by the measurement of pyridineFTIR of solid acidity in a FTIR where pyridine was used as probe base. In addition, the component distribution of the aromatic product before and after reaction were compared by the results of chromatographic analysis.

Abstract:Spent bleaching clay, a solid waste generated during the refining process of vegetable oils, lacks an efficient treatment solution. In this study, spent bleaching clay was innovatively employed to fabricate ceramic foams. The thermal stability analysis, microstructure, and crystal phase composition of the ceramic foams were characterized by TG-DSC, SEM, and XRD. An investigation into the influence of Al 2 O 3 content on the ceramic foams was conducted. Results showed that, as the Al 2 O 3 content increased from 15 wt% to 30 wt%, there was a noticeable decrease in bulk density and linear shrinkage, accompanied by an increase in compressive strength. Additionally, the ceramic foams were used as catalyst supports, to synthesize ZSM-5@ceramic foam composite catalysts for pyrolysis of waste oil. The open pores of the ZSCF catalyst not only reduced diffusion path length but also facilitated the exposure of more acid sites, thereby increasing the utilization efficiency of ZSM-5 zeolite. This, in turn, engendered a significant enhancement in monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content from 39.15 % (ZSM-5 powder catalyst) to 78.96 %. Besides, a larger support pore size and a thicker ZSM-5 zeolite coating layer led to an increase in monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content. As the time on stream was extended to 56 min, the monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content obtained with the composite catalyst remained 12.41 % higher than that of the ZSM-5 powder catalyst. These findings validate the potential of the composite catalyst. In essence, this study advances the utilization of spent bleaching clay and introduces a novel concept for ceramic foam fabrication. Furthermore, it contributes to the scaling up of catalytic pyrolysis technology.
