Abstract:By using an N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst bearing a hydroxyl moiety, the asymmetric formal (3 + 2) cyclization of aryl 3-bromoenals and isatins was achieved to produce a series of chiral spirooxindolebutenolides including an alkenyl-substituted compound, which underwent benzannulations with benzynes to form intriguing spirocyclic scaffolds.

Abstract:We describe here a Cu-catalyzed and 4-OH-TEMPO-mediated sequential dehydrogenation/aza-Michael addition/annulation cascade reaction for the construction of N-alkyl 2-arylindoles from facilely available saturated ketones and 2-arylethynylanilines. This reaction shows high regioselectivity and tolerates a variety of functional groups. Moreover, 3-alkyl-substituted indoles can also be achieved when using 2-alkylethynylanilines as starting materials.

Abstract:A highly efficient palladium-catalyzed domino coupling reaction of ortho-iodoaryl allene with sodium sulfonates under mild conditions is described. This novel method provides a practical protocol to access diverse indole- and benzofuran-containing sulfones by simultaneous construction of C(sp2)-C(sp2) bond and a C(sp3)-S bonds in one pot. Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation synthesis of heterocyclic spiro[4,4]nonanes has persistently witnessed the use of additional stoichiometric transition-metal oxidant when employing C=C bond as the Spiro ring closure site. Herein, we have addressed the issue by reporting a redox-neutral strategy for spiro[indene-1,4'-oxa-zolidinones] synthesis via Rh(III)-catalyzed coupling of 4-phenyl-1,3-oxazol-2(3H)-ones with alkynes. The synthesis features a broad substrate scope and high regiospecificity.

Abstract:The alkenylation of indoles with α,β-unsaturated ketones through a tandem addition and oxidative dehydrogenation strategy has been developed. This method provides an alternative approach for C3 alkenylation of indoles with α,β-unsaturated ketones. Abstract:A practical synthetic method for the generation of benzosultams via an intramolecular sp(2) C-H bond amination reaction of o-arylbenzenesulfonamides with PhI(OAc)2-I2 under metal-free conditions is developed. A broad range of substrates are tolerated under mild reaction conditions, affording bioactive benzosultams in good to excellent yields. The resulting benzothiazines could be conveniently transformed into their corresponding iodinated derivatives via electrophilic substitution reactions.

Abstract:A highly efficient and convenient construction of the spiro[indene-benzosultam] skeleton from propargylic alcohols has been developed. The reaction proceeded in a Lewis acid catalyzed cascade process, including the trapping of allene carbocation with sulfonamide, electrophilic cyclization, and intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation. In the presence of NIS or NBS, iodo/bromo-substituted spiro[indene-benzosultam]s could be prepared in excellent yields.

Abstract:An efficient method for the synthesis of 1H-indole-3-sulfonates via palladium-catalyzed tandem reactions of 2-alkynyl arylazides with sulfonic acids has been developed. Abstract:A sequential Rhodium(III)-catalyzed spiroannulation and lactonization strategy has been developed for the synthesis of a highly rigid spirobenzosultam lactones in good yields with high regioselectivity by means of aromatic ortho-C-H bond activation/functionalization of 3-aryl N-sulfonyl ketimines with 4-hydroxy-2-alkynoates. The reaction proceeds through a cascade of C–H activation followed by spiroannulation and lactonization. In this approach, two C-C and C-O bonds are formed in a single step. This is the first report on the spiroannulation of cyclic N-sulfonyl ketimines with hydroxyalkynoates.

Abstract:An unusual spiroannulation/cycloisomerization cascade of 3-(2-ethynylaryl)- N -tosylaziridines with indoles enabled by cooperative gold/scandium catalysis is presented, which facilitates the synthesis of 5 H -benzo[ b ]carbazoles in moderate to excellent yields. This protocol features a broad substrate scope and good functional-group compatibility. Additionally, the resulting 5 H -benzo[ b ]carbazoles exhibit good fluorescence properties, demonstrating the synthetic practicality of this method. Moreover, control experiments were performed to illustrate the reaction mechanism.

Abstract:By utilizing an underexplored reaction mode of C,N-cyclic azomethine imines, a catalyst-free [1+2+3] cycloaddition/N-N bond cleavage sequential reaction for accessing spiroindolines with syn-stereoselectivity was developed. On the basis of experimental results and DFT calculations, peroxide and ethereal solvent were identified to trigger the hydrogen abstraction of the unstable [1+2+3] cycloaddition adducts, followed by homolytic cleavage of the N-N bond and hydrogen absorption.

Abstract:A novel copper‐catalyzed dimerization of sulfoxonium ylides with 3‐diazoindolin‐2‐imines is described. Our reaction discriminates between the reactivity of sulfoxonium ylides and diazo compounds as both these classes are carbene precursors as well as nucleophiles. A wide range of spiro[cyclopropane‐1,3′‐indolin]‐2′‐imines were obtained in good to excellent yields with high diastereoselectivity under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:An asymmetric intramolecular spiro-amination to high steric hindering α-C-H bond of 1,3-dicarbonyl via nitrene transfer using inactive aryl azides has been carried out by developing a novel Cp*Ir(III)-SPDO (spiro-pyrrolidine oxazoline) catalyst, thereby enabling the first successful construction of structurally rigid spiro-quaternary indolinone cores with moderate to high yields and excellent enantioselectivities. DFT computations support the presence of double bridging H-F bonds between [SbF6]- and both the ligand and substrate, which favors the plane-differentiation of the enol π-bond for nitrenoid attacking. These findings open up numerous opportunities for the development of new asymmetric nitrene transfer systems.
