Abstract:In 2000, Cingolani and Lazzo (J. Differ. Equ. 160:118-138, 2000) studied nonlinear Schrödinger equations with competing potential functions and considered only the subcritical growth. They related the number of solutions with the topology of the global minima set of a suitable ground energy function. In the present paper, we establish these results in the critical case. In particular, we remove the condition , which is a key condition in their paper. In the proofs we apply variational methods and Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory. MSC: 35J60, 35Q55.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following quasilinear Schrodinger equation -Delta u + v(x)u - Delta(u(2))u = g(u), x is an element of R-N, where N > 4, 2* = 2N / N-2, V : R-N -> R satisfies suitable assumptions. Unlike g is an element of C-1 (R;R), we only need to assume that g is an element of C (R, R). By using a change of variable, we obtain the existence of ground state solutions with general critical growth. Our results extend some known results.

Abstract:We investigate a class of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in ℝ^N -Δ u +V(x)u=|u|^2^*-2u+λ |u|^p-2u, where N≥ 3 , λ >0 and p∈ (2,2^*) with 2^*=2 N/N-2 . Here, V(x)=V_1(x) for x_1>0 and V(x)=V_2(x) for x_1<0 , where V_1,V_2 are periodic in each coordinate direction. By providing a splitting Lemma corresponding to non-periodic external potential, we obtain the existence of ground state solution for the above problem. It is worth to mention that the arguments used in this paper are also valid for the Sobolev subcritical problem studied by Dohnal et al. (Commun Math Phys 308:511–542, 2011).

Abstract:A nonlinear Schrödinger equation of fractional (N/s1,q)-Laplacian is considered with the Rabinowitz potential, critical Sobolev growth and Trudinger–Moser nonlinearity in RN −ΔN/s1s1u+−Δqs2u+V(ɛx)(uNs1−2u+uq−2u)=λfu+uqs2∗−2u.We establish the global existence of nonnegative ground-state solution for suitable parameter values primarily through variational analysis, fractional Trudinger–Moser inequality and mountain pass approach. It is a crucial ingredient to handle three aspects concerning the limiting setting s1p=N, the critical Sobolev growth and Trudinger–Moser nonlinearity.

Abstract:In the present paper, we develop a direct approach to find nontrivial solutions and ground state solutions for the following planar Schrödinger equation: $$\begin{aligned} {\left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -\Delta u+V(x)u=f(x,u), \;\;&{} x\in {{\mathbb {R}}}^{2},\\ u\in H^1({\mathbb {R}}^2), \end{array}\right. } \end{aligned}$$ where V(x) is an 1-periodic function with respect to $$x_1$$ and $$x_2$$ , 0 lies in a gap of the spectrum of $$-\Delta +V$$ , and f(x, t) behaves like $$\pm e^{\alpha t^2}$$ as $$t\rightarrow \pm \infty $$ uniformly on $$x\in {\mathbb {R}}^2$$ . Our theorems extend and improve the results of de Figueiredo-Miyagaki-Ruf (Calc Var Partial Differ Equ, 3(2):139–153, 1995), of de Figueiredo-do Ó-Ruf (Indiana Univ Math J, 53(4):1037–1054, 2004), of Alves-Souto-Montenegro (Calc Var Partial Differ Equ 43: 537–554, 2012), of Alves-Germano (J Differ Equ 265: 444–477, 2018) and of do Ó-Ruf (NoDEA 13: 167–192, 2006).

We give some new sufficient conditions on f to obtain the existence of nontrivial solutions or ground state solutions. In particular, some new estimates and techniques are used to overcome the difficulty arising from the critical growth of Trudinger-Moser type.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following quasilinear Schrödinger equation: -ε ^2Δ u+V(x) u-ε ^2Δ (u^2)u=g(u), x∈ℝ^2, where ε >0 is a small parameter, V∈𝒞(ℝ^2,ℝ) is uniformly positive and allowed to be unbounded from above, and g∈𝒞(ℝ,ℝ) has a critical exponential growth at infinity. In the autonomous case, when ε >0 is fixed and V(x)≡ V_0∈ℝ^+ , we first present a remarkable relationship between the existence of least energy solutions and the range of V_0 without any monotonicity conditions on g. Based on some new strategies, we establish the existence and concentration of positive solutions for the above singularly perturbed problem. In particular, our approach not only permits to extend the previous results to a wider class of potentials V and source terms g, but also allows a uniform treatment of two kinds of representative nonlinearities that g has extra restrictions at infinity or near the origin, namely lim inf _|t|→ +∞tg(t)/e^α _0 t^4 or g(u)≥ C_q,Vu^q-1 with q>4 and C_q,V>0 is an implicit value depending on q, V and the best constant of the embedding H^1(ℝ^2)⊂ L^q(ℝ^2) , considered in the existing literature. To the best of our knowledge, there have not been established any similar results, even for simpler semilinear Schrödinger equations. We believe that our approach could be adopted and modified to treat more general elliptic partial differential equations involving critical exponential growth.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the time-oscillating critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation iu(t) + Delta u + theta(omega t)vertical bar u vertical bar(4/n-2)u = 0 in R-n (n >= 3), where theta is a periodic function. We show that, for a given initial condition u(0) = phi in H-1, the solution u(omega) converges as vertical bar omega vertical bar -> infinity to the solution U of the limiting equation iU(t) + Delta U + I(theta)vertical bar U vertical bar U4/n-2 = 0 with the same initial condition, where I(theta) is the average of theta. We also show that if the solution U is global and has a certain decay property, then u(omega) is also global if vertical bar omega vertical bar is sufficiently large. Similar results for the subcritical problem are given by Cazenave and Scialom (2010) [9]. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence of solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations of the form(0.1)−Δu+V(|x|)u=Q(|x|)f(u)+λg(|x|,u),x∈R2, where the nonlinear term f(s) has critical exponential growth which behaves like eαs2, g(r,s) is a concave term on s, the radial potentials V,Q:R+→R are unbounded, singular at the origin or decaying to zero at infinity and λ>0 is a parameter. Based on the known Trudinger-Moser inequality in H0,rad1(B1), we establish a new version of Trudinger-Moser inequality in the working space of the associated with the energy functional related to the above problem. By combining the variational methods, Trudinger-Moser inequality and some new approaches to estimate precisely the minimax level of the energy functional, we prove the existence of a nontrivial solution for the above problem under some weak assumptions. Our results show that the presence of the concave term (i.e. λ>0) is very helpful to the existence of nontrivial solutions for Eq. (0.1) in one sense.
