Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:Finsler manifolds are differentiable manifolds equipped with Riemannian metrics without the quadratic restriction. In this paper, some recent developments and new results on curvatures and fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are summarized briefly. The contents contain the growth of fundamental groups, the entropy of manifolds and fundamental groups, the first Betti number and the finiteness of fundamental groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (and Riemannian real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.
Conformal currents and the entropy of negatively curved three-manifolds

Abstract:In this paper, we describe the intersection between geodesic and conformal currents on closed hyperbolic three-manifolds. We use this to prove some sharp bounds which involve the Liouville entropy of a negatively curved metric, the minimal surface entropy, and the area ratio. Using these ideas we also give a new proof of the Mostow Rigidity Theorem in the three-dimensional case.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a global rigidity theorem for negatively curved Finsler metrics on a compact manifold of dimension it greater than or equal to 3. We show that for such a Finsler manifold, if the flag curvature is a scalar function on the tangent bundle, then the Finsler metric is of Randers type. We also study the case when the Finsler metric is locally projectively flat.

Abstract:In this work, we introduce the notion of entropy at infinity, and define a wide class of noncompact manifolds with negative curvature, those which admit a critical gap between entropy at infinity and topological entropy. We call them strongly positively recurrent manifolds (SPR), and provide many examples. We show that dynamically, they behave as compact manifolds. In particular, they admit a finite measure of maximal entropy. Using the point of view of currents at infinity, we show that on these SPR manifolds the topological entropy of the geodesic flow varies in a C 1 -way along (uniformly) C 1 -perturbations of the metric. This result generalizes former work of Katok (1982) and Katok-Knieper-Weiss (1991) in the compact case.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that if the Ricci tensor of a compact nonpositively curved manifold M n is nowhere negative definite, then it admits local flat factors. To be more precise, let U C M be the open subset where the Ricci tensor has maximum rank r. Then for any connected component U a of U, its universal cover U a is isometric to R n―r ×N r a , where n r a is a nonpositively curved manifold with negative Ricci curvature. In particular, if M n is compact, nonpositively curved without Euclidean de Rham factor, and both the manifold and the metric are real analytic, then its Ricci tensor must be negative definite somewhere.
Entropy Stability for products of negatively curved symmetric spaces

Abstract:Let $(M,g_0)$ be a closed oriented $n$-manifold that is locally isometric to a product $(X^{n_1}_1,g_1)\times\cdots (X_k^{n_k},g_k)$, where each $n_i\ge 3,$ and each factor $(X_i^{n_i},g_i)$ is a negatively curved symmetric space. We study the stability of minimal entropy rigidity for such manifolds. Specifically, we consider whether an entropy-minimizing sequence $(M,g_i)$ converges to the model space in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff sense after removing negligible subsets. Previously, Song [Son23] established this type of stability for negatively curved symmetric spaces, where both the $n$-volume of the removed subsets and the $(n-1)$-volume of their boundaries converge to zero. We construct a counterexample demonstrating that this stronger stability notion does not generally hold in the product case; in particular, the condition that the $(n-1)$-volume of the boundary of removed subsets converges to zero cannot be imposed. Nonetheless, we prove that an entropy-minimizing sequence $(M,g_i)$ converges to the model space after removing subsets whose $n$-volume converges to zero in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology. This result provides a weaker form of stability compared to the negatively symmetric case. A key ingredient in establishing this stability is our proof of the intrinsic uniqueness of the spherical Plateau solution for products of negatively curved symmetric spaces, which is of independent interest.

Description of the Low-Energy Doublet Neutron-Deuteron Scattering on the Basis of the Triton Bound and Virtual State Parameters

Abstract:Low-energy doublet neutron-deuteron scattering is described on the basis of the triton bound and virtual state parameters - the energies and the nuclear vertex constants of these states. The van Oers-Seagrave formula is derived from the Bargmann representation of the S matrix for a system having two states. The presence of a pole in this formula is shown to be a direct corollary of the existence of a low-energy triton virtual state. Simple explicit expressions for the nd scattering length and for the pole of the function $k\cot \delta $ are obtained in terms of the triton bound and virtual state parameters. Numerical calculations of the nd low-energy scattering parameters show their high sensitivity to variations in the asymptotic normalization constant of the virtual state $C_{v}^{2}$. The $C_{v}^{2}$ value fitted in our model to the experimental result for the nd scattering length is $C_{v}^{2}=0.0592$.

Abstract:In this note, we study the relation between the existence of a negatively curved complete hermitian metric on a complex manifold M and the product structure of (or contained in) M. We introduce the concept of geometric ranks and give a curvature characterization of the rank one manifolds, which generalizes the previous results of P. Yang and N. Mok (see below). In the proof, we used the old techniques of Yau's Schwartz lemma and Cheng-Yau's result on the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics.

Abstract:We prove that, for a C 2 non-invertible but non-degenerate map on a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary, an invariant measure satisfies an equality relating entropy, folding entropy and negative Lyapunov exponents. This generalizes Ledrappier-Young’s entropy formula [5] (for negative Lyapunov exponents of diffeomorphisms) to the case of endomorphisms.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider Cartan–Hadamard manifolds (i.e., simply connected, complete, of non-positive sectional curvature) whose negative Ricci curvature grows polynomially at infinity. We show that a number of functional properties, which typically hold on manifolds of bounded curvature, remain true in this setting. These include the characterization of Sobolev spaces on manifolds, the so-called Calderón–Zygmund inequalities and the -positivity preserving property, i.e., . The main tool is a new class of first- and second-order Hardy-type inequalities on Cartan–Hadamard manifolds with a polynomial upper bound on the curvature. In the last part of the manuscript we prove the -positivity preserving property, , on manifolds with subquadratic negative part of the Ricci curvature. This generalizes an idea of B. Güneysu and gives a new proof of a well-known condition for the stochastic completeness due to P. Hsu.

Abstract:We study the set of curvature functions which a given compact manifold with boundary can possess. First, we prove that the sign demanded by the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem is a necessary and sufficient condition for a given function to be the geodesic curvature or the Gaussian curvature of some conformally equivalent metric. Our approach allows us to solve problems that are impossible to solve in the pointwise conformal case. Moreover, we obtain a deep and more delicate information on pointwise conformal deformations. We prove new existence and nonexistence results for metrics with prescribed curvature in the conformal setting, which depend on the Euler characteristic.
