Abstract:AIM To study the distribution, expression and significance of C2 gene in colorectal cancer tissue. METHODS ABC immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of C2 protein in 62 samples of colon cancer tissue and 46 samples of their pericancerous tissue, as well as 46 samples of rectal cancer tissue and 30 samples of their pericancerous tissue. RESULTS In the 62 samples of colon cancer tissue and 46 samples of their pericancerous tissue, the positive rates of C2 protein were 41.9% and 82.6%, respectively. Statistical analysis suggested that the positive rates of C2 protein were significantly higher in their pericancerous tissue than that in colon cancer tissue ( P 0.05). C2 protein was significantly correlated with the depth of invasion and lymph node metastases ( P 0.05). In the 46 samples of rectal cancer tissue and 30 samples of their pericancerous tissue, the positive rates of C2 protein were 43.5% and 73.3%, respectively. Statistical analysis suggested that the positive rates of C2 protein had no significant difference in rectal cancer tissue and their pericancerous tissue ( P 0.05). CONCLUSION Low expression or mutation of C2 protein may play an important role in the development of colorectal cancer tissue.
