Abstract:This paper present a simple model to show the mechanisms that produce digital frequency dividers' aliasing effects.And we also get a relationship to determine the amplitude and location of the spurs and PM noise in the output frequency. With its aid, we can calculate the spurs and PM noise in the output signal of the PLL more accurately.

Abstract:In view of the complex underwater acoustic channel in underwater acoustic communication system ,the paper proposed a new synchronized method to against extended frequency. The method makes full use of HFM (Hyperbolic Frequency Modulation, HFM) and doppler tolerance characteristics and constructs a special combination of HFM signals, so as to achieve rapid and precise time synchronization. Based on the sea channel data analysis, this method which compared with the traditional synchronization methods has a lower synchronous error and lower computational complexity and faster synchronous rate. The experimental results based on DSPs demonstrate the reliability and effectiveness.

Abstract:DDS is characterized by high frequency resolution,rapid frequency switching and low phase noise.Basic theory and main performance of AD9956,the product of ADI Corporation,are introduced in this paper.A fast speed frequency synthesizer of frequency hopping communications is designed by the chip AD9956.The result of the measurement is as follows: the spurious is less than-80 dBc,the time of hopping frequency is less than 100ns.Based on the results of the experiment,the distributing rules of the spurious noise of the DDS and the method of reducing it are analysed and summarized at last.

Abstract:To the spurious problem of DDS chips,the paper mainly analyzed the sources of spurious.Combining with actual experiences of using two DDS chips(AD9854/AD9856),practical suppression applications of DDS spurious are put forward from two aspects of reference clock design and PCB design.The measured results prove that the spurious of DDS chips can be reduced efficiently by our applications,and the applications provide beneficial reference for rational utilization of DDS chips.

Abstract:Digital frequency source is an important component of modern radar system, and its technological specifications influence the system performance directly. This paper introduces the fundamental principles of the direct digital synthesized frequency source, qualitatively analyses the inherent spurious effects and phase noise, and analyses the principle by which the stepped-frequency radar obtains high resolution target range profile information (one dimension range image). The simulation based on Matlab demonstrates that the DDS spurious effects caused by phase truncation and amplitude quantization obey the characteristic of uniform random statistical distribution, and the influence of DDS spurious effects on stepped-frequency radar's ranging performance is simulated. The result of analysis and simulation reference value to system design.

Abstract:Frequency synthesizers are indispensable parts of a RF(Radio Frequency) system.This paper makes a study of how to design a frequency synthesizer by using a digital PLL(Phase-locked Loops) ADF4351 and a Spartan-6 FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array).This paper mainly discusses the principles of ADF4351,the SPI(Serial Peripheral Interface) communication between the two parts,and the design of the PCB(Printed Circuit Board),and also give key HDL(Hardware Description Language) codes and the result of its performance.The characteristics of this frequency synthesizer is low-cost,resource-saving,and easy to construct or upgrade.It has the best performance between 100 MHz and 700 MHz with SFDR(Spurious-free Dynamic Range) of around 40 dB.

Abstract:The cold atomic fountain experiment requires frequency shifting of the cooling light. This experiment needs to shift laser frequency of the cooling light to 115MHz. In order to meet this requirement, DDS is chosen as the driving source of AOM. For the existing AD9852 chip, as the core chip of DDS, the operating frequency is suitable for 100MHz. If it exceeds 100MHz, the power will be greatly reduced and the waveform will be distorted. By using overclocking technology, the existing DDS can work at 115 MHz. Under undistorted conditions, the DDS provides a radio frequency signal power of 29.4 dBm and 58% diffraction efficiency, which meet the requirements of power and frequency stability in the cold atomic fountain experiment.

Abstract:In this paper, the effect of frequency synthesizer on the performance of millimeter wave stepped frequency radar is analyzed, including frequency synthesis technique (DDS and PLL), amplitude response, and sideband frequency modulation (spurs and phase noise). Firstly, the process of generating range profile with high range resolution by IDFT is described. Then, the effect of those factors is simulated separately to find out what effect happen to radar range profile. Finally, the simulation results indicate that the frequency response of frequency synthesizer affects not only the SNR but also the range resolution to radar, while the amplitude response and frequency modulation only affect the SNR to radar.

Abstract:ZPW-2000R frequency-shift automatic block system is our country's main new domestic automatic block system.In the quality testing process of receiver module of the automatic block system,the testing system needs to provide dual frequency-shift signal whose frequency and amplitude is adjustable.The system controls two AD9833s to generate frequency shift signal whose frequency is adjustable through the SPI and the GPIO simulation of SPI in TMS320F2812.In order to realize the adjustable amplitude of the signal,the output testing signal from AD9833 will be put into high precision operational amplifier,and then into the DAC chip AD7521.Through the GPIO port,the amplitude of the signal can be adjusted continuously by AD7521.Verified by experiment,the dual frequency testing signal generated from the system is with high precision,smooth waveform,which improves the testing reliability in the receiver of the automatic block system.

Abstract:After analyzing the principle of DDS,the causes for its spur and some methods to reduce spurs,a new and effective method of spur-reducing was proposed.Using the trigonometric transformation,the low B-bits which were usually be truncated in the output of phase accumulator were utilized.The results in Simulink appeared that the spurious performance of the optimized DDS was improved to 60 dB,when the phase accumulator is 32 bit and 12 bit wide for look-up table addressing.The DDS was implemented in the FPGA by using the Verilog language as a design input,and finally an ideal sine wave was observed by oscilloscope.

Abstract:Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences have been used as synchronization sequences in modern wireless communication systems, replacing the conventional pseudo-random noise (PN) sequences due to their perfect autocorrelation properties. We first study the ambiguity problem between a timing offset and a frequency offset when a ZC sequence is used as a synchronization signal. We show how a frequency offset can impair the timing property of a ZC sequence, causing irreducible timing errors. An analytical framework is developed, which completely characterizes a ZC sequence's timing behavior and its fundamental limitation as a synchronization sequence in the presence of a frequency offset between the transmitter and the receiver.

Abstract:This paper presents a direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS) for high speed application based on multichannel structure. This DDFS has phase resolution of 32 bits and magnitude resolution of 12 bits. In order to ensure the high speed and high resolution at the same time, the multi-channel sampling technique is used and a 12 bits linear DAC is implemented. The chip is fabricated in TSMC 130nm CMOS technology with active area of 0.89mm×0.98mm and total power consumption of 300mW at a single 1.2V supply voltage. The maximum operating speed is up to 2.0GHz at room temperature.

Abstract:In this letter, an improved triple-tunable frequency synthesizer structure to achieve both high frequency resolution and fast switching speed without degradation of spurious signals (spurs) level performance is proposed. According to this structure, a high performance millimeter-wave frequency synthesizer with low spurious, low phase noise, and fast switching speed, is developed. This synthesizer driven by the direct digital synthesizer (DDS) AD9956 can adjust the output of a DDS and frequency division ratios of two variable frequency dividers (VFDs) to move the spurious components outside the loop bandwidth of the phase-locked loop (PLL). Moreover, the ADF4252 based microwave PLL can further suppress the phase noise. Experimental results from the implemented synthesizer show that remarkable performance improvements have been achieved.

Abstract:Modern wireless communication poses the requirements of fast settling time, small channel width, and low phase noise to frequency synthesizer. ΣΔ fractional-N frequency synthesizer is widely adopted due to its excellent characteristics in these aspects. This paper presents a number of system issues and design considerations/tradeoffs which are involved in the design of such a frequency synthesizer from the system point of view. These considerations include selection of loop parameters, choice of key building blocks, and critical system performance issues like spurious tones, quantization noise, in-band phase noise, out-of-band phase noise, and frequency accuracy/resolution. Finally, the future possibilities are briefly analyzed.

Abstract:The influence of spectral leakage is analyzed theoretically when the two-tone method and the all-phase discrete Fourier transformation (apDFT) are utilized to measure the group delay of a frequency convertor. Owing to the spectral leakage, the spectral lines of the two tones interact, and the interaction arouses errors in the measurement of group delay. Then, an I/Q method is put forward to eliminate the interaction. Simulations with a frequency convertor demonstrate the feasibility of the I/Q method in eliminating the interaction.

Abstract:Direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology is widely used in navigation, communications, aerospace, and other fields. Due to the technical limitations in the process of DDS digitization, the output spectrum of DDS is inevitably spurious. In order to meet the requirement of the pure frequency reference signal for modern instrument or equipment, it is necessary to correctly analyze the spur of DDS and effectively suppress it. In this paper, the causes of the spur in traditional DDS are analyzed, and a piecewise linear approximation method is proposed to suppress the amplitude quantization spur of DDS. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed spurious suppression method in this paper, the MATLAB simulation is carried out and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware platform for DDS is developed. The simulation and actual test results prove the feasibility of this method. In the limited storage space, this method improves the accuracy of amplitude quantization, reduces spurs, and enhances the accuracy of synthetic frequency.
