Research Progress in High Temperature Oxidation Resistance of Nb and Nb-Based Alloys

Abstract:Nb-based alloys offer great potential as important alternative materials to Ni-based alloys due to their high melting points, low densities and excellent general mechanical properties. However, their poor oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures is the key problem to restrain their application. This paper reviews the current oxidation resistant protection technologies of Nb-based alloys in the following aspects:alloying effect, grain refinement and coating techniques, and furthermore,it analyzes the existing problems in the current research.
