Abstract:Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is widely utilized in tunnel construction. Effective fault diagnosis of TBM is vital for the safety of tunnel boring since the failure of TBM might cause harm for the workers accompanying with the loss of time and economy. A Web Service-Based Remote Diagnosis System (WSRDS) with Bayesian network (BN) as the faults analysis model is proposed in this paper. BN is a concise, practical and intuitive method to determine the exact cause for failure. The WSRDS enables an easy access for the diagnosis system of TBM and highlights an enhancement to the ubiquitous information processing. Taken the thrusting system of TBM as an example, the architecture of the WSRDS is formulated and the function of every module is described. The key system modules including general diagnostic procedure and integrated design of the diagnostic database are elaborated. The WSRDS could effectively realize the data integration among distributed enterprises of heterogeneous systems and greatly improves system reusability. The proposed WSRDS might have a promising wide application in the maintenance of TBM.

Abstract:Top driver system (TDS) is a complex structure of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic integration drilling equipment, which is a high-tech equipment in modern drilling equipment. However, TDS in the process of drilling operation will inevitably have faults, which has high requirements for maintenance personnel. Shortening maintenance cycle, reducing cost and improving operation efficiency have become an important problem for engineering and technical personnel. Based on fault tree analysis (FTA), a fault diagnosis expert system for TDS was designed. According to FTA, the expert knowledge base was established, and the design of the inference engine was realized according to the production rules in the knowledge base and the forward reasoning strategies. Finally, Visual Studio 2015 and SQL Server 2012 were used to develop this expert system, which can effectively diagnose the fault of TDS and has good convenience and practicability.

Abstract:In tunnel boring projects, wear and tear in the tooling system can have significant consequences, such as decreased boring efficiency, heightened maintenance costs, and potential safety hazards. In this paper, a fault diagnosis method for TBM tooling systems based on SAV−SVDD failure location (SSFL) is proposed. The aim of this method is to detect faults caused by disk cutter wear during the boring process, which diminishes the boring efficiency and is challenging to detect during construction. This paper uses SolidWorks to create a complete three−dimensional model of the TBM hydraulic thrust system and tool system. Then, dynamic simulations are performed with Adams. This helps us understand how the load on the propulsion hydraulic cylinder changes as the TBM tunneling tool wears to different degrees during construction. The hydraulic propulsion system was modeled and simulated using AMESIM software. Utilizing the load on the hydraulic propulsion cylinder as an input signal, pressure signals from the two chambers of the hydraulic cylinder and the system's flow signal were acquired. This enabled an in−depth exploration of the correlation between these acquired signals and the extent of the tooling system failure. Following this analysis, a collection of normal sample data and sample data representing different degrees of disk cutter abrasions was amassed for further study. Next, an SSFL network model for locating the failure area of the cutter was established. Fault sample data were used as the input, and the accuracy of the fault diagnosis model was tested. The test results show that the performance of the SSFL network model is better than that of the SAE−SVM and SVDD network models. The SSFL model achieves 90% accuracy in determining the failure area of the cutter head. The model effectively identifies the failure regions, enabling timely tool replacement to avoid decreased boring efficiency under wear conditions. The experimental findings validate the feasibility of this approach.

Abstract:Visualized supervision and control system for shield tunnel boring machine was developed, according to the request of the upper workstation. The hardware design and software structure were introduced. Specially, logical judgment of working state and static and dynamic prediction model of earth surface level variation were given and analyzed. The solutions to avoid land surface sedimentation accruing were brought forward: ensuring the working state of the programs precisely at any time according to running state of the tunneling machine with using logical judgment formula; forecasting the quantities of the surface sedimentation comparatively exactly by evaluating on-line and visualized supervision means. It is testified that the system can supervise multi-subject, can forecast exactly, as well as can realize visualized evaluation and prediction on line.

Abstract:Injection moulding is a kind of highly automatic machine. The hydraulic system is an important part for its proper operation. But because of the frequent faults, the productivity of injection moulding is significantly decreased. Traditionally, the expert system for fault diagnosis is only based on expert experiences. However, considering the complexity of faults of the hydraulic system, it sometimes leads to inaccurate results, even no results. We present a method based on the combination of an expert's experiences and the object's structure and function. By using shallow and deep knowledge synthetically, the framework of an efficacious system is proposed. We describe the generalized knowledge base and the new diagnosis strategies and reference mechanism. We also give some practical rules in LISP language. In most cases, especially unexpected ones, this method can lead to better results

Abstract:TBM Tunneling in subsea areas with adverse geological conditions presents potential risks due to non-compliant tunneling strategies resulting from manual adjustments and untimely communications. This study proposes an innovative subsea TBM tunnel intelligent construction system, featuring automated-compliance-checking (ACC) optimization, to assess feasibility through a case study. The key ingredient of the system is an integrated data-driven model framework comprising of a geological identification model based on fuzzy set theory and Dempster-Shafer (D-S) fusion theory and a machine learning-based TBM construction strategy ACC optimization model. In addition, a real-time data services scheme is established to manage TBM engineering big data, ensuring its effective utilization. Implemented in the PRDWRA project's F27 fault zone, the system identified greater stratum complexity than previously known, with potential dual faults. Post-ACC optimization, it achieved a 13.6% increase in advance rate, maintained consistent slurry pressure, and reduced the deviation between optimized and expected values by 57.1%. Finally, drawing upon statistical data sourced from project stakeholders, the system's deployment yielded a 9% cycle time reduction, and a 27% cost saving, with 17% from reduced construction times and 9% from lower accident rates. These results confirm the strategy's compliance with construction codes, significantly reducing risk and improving tunneling efficiency. The results confirm that the operational strategy adheres to construction code requirements, substantially reducing construction risks and effectively enhancing tunneling efficiency.

Abstract:The excavation adaptability evaluation decision process for the TBM (tunnel boring machine) in long and large tunnels under complex geological conditions is an uncertain and fuzzy problem affected by multiple factors. Aiming to shift the status quo of TBMs tunneling adaptability evaluation and the ineffective use of related accident cases, the TBM tunneling adaptability evaluation method based on case-based reasoning is proposed and researched. The case-based reasoning method can use existing engineering experience and knowledge to answer newly encountered problems, and can accurately and efficiently evaluate the adaptability of TBM tunneling. Based on the nearest neighbor method, this paper establishes the calculation formula of TBM tunneling adaptability similarity. Based on the statistical analysis method, the evaluation indicators that play a relatively important role in the system are selected, and the TBM tunneling adaptability evaluation index system is constructed. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to determine the weight of the evaluation indicators at each level. According to the characteristics of TBM tunneling adaptability evaluation, the overall design of the case-based reasoning-based TBM tunneling adaptability evaluation decision system CBR-TBMEAEDS (case-based reasoning-TBM excavation adaptive evaluation decision system) is proposed, and the TBM tunneling adaptability evaluation case is expressed The case-based reasoning method and modification method were designed, and CBR-TBMEAEDS was developed. The system can be used to evaluate the adaptability of TBM to the constructed case library, and the evaluation results are consistent with the actual situation.

Abstract:In this paper, a fault diagnosis method for spacecraft based on telemetry data mining and fault tree analysis was proposed. Decision trees are constructed from the history telemetry data of the spacecraft, and are used to classify the current data which is unknown whether it is fault. If there is a fault, the fault tree method will be used to analyze the fault reason and the impact on the spacecraft system. This method can effectively solve the problem of diagnostic knowledge acquisition. We design and construct a fault diagnosis expert system for spacecraft based on this diagnosis method. An experiment is presented to prove the effectiveness and practicality of the expert system.

Abstract:A fault caused by vibration diagnosis expert system for a pump storage group was designed based on modularization according to the characters of the pump storage group.The system's structure,its key function modules,the logic reasoner design and its software realization were introduced.An example of application was given.As an AI computer program,the system helped field fault diagnosis personnel to have a rather profound understanding the working status of the group.Therefore,the system was suitable for complicated and normalized large-scaled dynamic systems.

Abstract:A prototype system of the Distributed Monitoring and Diagnostic Expert System (DMADES) has developed for a steam turbine generator sets. This system consists of four monitoring and diagnostic expert systems, the thermal monitoring and diagnostic expert system (TMADES), the boiler monitoring and diagnostic expert system (BMADES), the vibration monitoring and diagnostic expert system (VMADES), the generator monitoring and diagnostic expert system (GMADES). The hardware of this system is realized with four PC-based subsystem which are networked. The software of this system is done with C language and expert system tool CLIPS running under Windows for Workgroups 3.11. This paper describes all aspects of system architecture, cooperation, communication and application. Finally some examples are illustriated.

Abstract:When a fault tolerant computer-based system fails, diagnosis and repair must be performed to bring the system back to an operational state. The use of fault tolerance design implies that several components or subsystems may have failed, and that perhaps many of these faults have been tolerated before the system actually succumbed to failure. Diagnosis procedures are then needed to determine the most likely source of failure and to guide repair actions. Expert systems are often used to guide diagnostics, but the derivation of an expert system requires knowledge (i.e., a conceptual model) of failure symptoms. In this paper, we consider the problem of diagnosing a system for which there may be little experience, given that it might be a one-of-a-kind system or because access to the system may be limited. We conjecture that the same fault tree model used to help aid in the design and analysis of the system can provide the conceptual model of system component interactions needed in order to define a diagnostic process. We explore the use of a fault tree model (along with the probabilities of failure for the basic events) along with partial knowledge of the state of the system (i.e., the system has failed, and perhaps some components are known to be operational or failed) to produce a diagnostic aid.

Abstract:Faults during dredging process often caused serious damages on dredging system. High maintenance costs and prolonged fault recovering process often make dredging production and profit low. An online fault diagnosis and prevention expert system that is aimed to prevent fault occurrence and to quicken the recovering process is introduced in this paper. For the complexity of fault judging and prevention process and frequently varying dynamics of dredging operations, hybrid structure and inference process are adopted in the expert system. ANNs are introduced to adapt the varying system dynamics and to predict system state. Designed expert application is also featured by online fault prevention and recovering decisions. Preliminary test has been carried out in actual engineering project and results of performance evaluation experiment are also introduced.

Abstract:The present study fist proposed the structure of a multi-function car-carry fault diagnosis system, and the design of vehicle status monitoring module. Secondly, this paper analyzed the design of vehicle fault diagnosis expert knowledge base, inference machine and interpreter program. The paper used fault tree analysis (FTA) to establish fault tree of automotive engine, chassis systems, body parts and electrical equipment, then simplified the fault tree to form fault diagnosis rules, and establishes car-carry fault diagnosis expert system knowledge base. In its software implementation, SQLite database is used to save and manage diagnostic rules. Expert system inference engine uses an interactive search method based adopt reasoning mechanism. The expert system uses preset text to realize explanation. Finally, this paper discusses hardware and software design of the fault diagnosis system, and demonstrates the system's human-machine interface operating results.
