Abstract:An efficient synthesis of optically active 4-substituted 2-oxazolidinones by the ruthenium(II)-NHC-catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-oxazolones was developed. Excellent enantioselectivities (up to 96% ee) and yields (up to 99%) were obtained for a variety of substrates, bearing a range of functional groups and useful motifs. The hydrogenation reaction was successfully scaled up to gram scale using low catalyst loading. Moreover, the utility of this methodology was demonstrated by the transformation of the enantioenriched product into the corresponding chiral beta-amino alcohol, a bisoxazoline ligand, and the formal synthesis of (-)-aurantioclavine.

Abstract:A gold-catalyzed regioselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition of alkynyl triazenes with 1,2,4-dioxazoles was developed. The triazene group in the products could be replaced to obtain iodo-oxazoles, providing potential transformations to diverse oxazole structures. This protocol features readily available starting materials, mild reaction conditions and scalability. A plausible mechanism involving a nitrene transfer process was proposed.

Abstract:An efficient ruthenium‐catalyzed divergent alkylation and olefination of methyl 1,3,5‐triazines with alcohols have been developed. The selectivity can be rationally tuned by the judicious choice of ruthenium catalyst, wherein Ru(PPh3)3Cl2 delivers alkylated 1,3,5‐triazines and RuCl3 gives olefinated 1,3,5‐triazines in up to 98 % yield. Following this simple, facile, and high atom economical protocol, a broad range of products was prepared in moderate to good yields and tolerated heterocyclic or benzylic alcohols containing functionalities. The overall transformation operates through dehydrogenation of primary alcohols under the reaction conditions to provide the corresponding aldehydes, which further undergo condensation with methyl 1,3,5‐triazines.

Abstract:A novel strategy for catalytic synthesis of 2-aryl-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazoles by non-noble molybdenum-catalyzed deoxygenative heterocyclization of 2-nitroazobenzenes is described, bearing a wide range of functional groups in good to excellent yields. The salient features of the transformation include the use of readily available substrates, valuable products and ease of scale-up. The mechanistic study indicates the reaction occurred via twice deoxygenation by Mo(VI)/Mo(IV) catalytic cycle from 2-nitroazobenzene, through the formation of 2-aryl-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole-N1-oxide or nitrene intermediates.

Abstract:The reactions of α-bromoacetophenones with methylhydrazine in refluxing acetic acid generated 2-methyl-4-aryl-2H-[1,2,3]triazoles in good yields. The method was developed by the reactions of α-bromoacetophenones with phenylhydrazines in the presence of cupric ion, leading to 2,4-diary-2H-[1,2,3]triazoles. The structures were established on the basis of corresponding IR, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis data.

Monosubstituted to tetrasubstituted biguanidines also afforded the desired products.

Abstract:A transition-metal-free oxidative N-N bond formation strategy was developed to generate various structurally interesting [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]benzazoles efficiently. The mechanism of the key oxidative N-N bond formation was investigated by using an intramolecular competition reaction. Notably, the first single crystal structure was also obtained to confirm the structure of 2-aryl[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]benzimidazole.

Abstract:This study aims to develop a practical and facile one-pot synthesis of 2- substituted quinazolines. Using a commercially available and structurally simple ruthenium( II) complex as the catalyst to synthesize a series of quinazoline derivatives via acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling. The mechanism of this reaction was explored by control reaction and DFT calculation. This protocol offers access to a diverse array of quinazoline derivatives (52 examples) in moderate to excellent yields (29%-98%). In summary, we have developed an efficient one-pot ruthenium (II)-catalyzed ADC synthesis of quinazoline under an air atmosphere. The reaction only produces hydrogen and water as by-products, serving as a sustainable and atom-efficient synthetic approach.

Abstract:The present work reveals a new metal-catalyzed synthetic reaction involving 1,2,3-benzotriazinones with carbonyl sulfoxonium ylide and iodonium ylide, resulting in divergent products. Within this catalytic system, 3-phenylbenzo[d][1,2,3]triazin-4(3H)-one derivatives undergo C-H alkylation processes facilitated by a Cp*Rh(III) catalyst when combined with a carbonyl sulfoxonium ylide. On the other hand, when iodonium ylide substrates are used, they undergo an alkenylation reaction facilitated by a Cp*Ir(III) catalyst. In addition, hydrazone products are produced by synthesizing iodonium ylide substrates with the use of a copper catalyst. These transformations demonstrate mild reaction conditions, a wide range of substrates, and excellent compatibility with various functional groups. The strategy and tactics utilized have been effectively implemented on a significant scale.

Abstract:We report here a mechanochemical Cu‐catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of azinium‐N‐imines with nitriles under solventless grinding conditions. Various 1,2,4‐triazolos derivatives were obtained in 51–80% yields. The developed protocol offers advantages in functional‐group compatibility, scalability, no use of solvents, shorter reaction time, and without external heating. In addition, heterocyclic N‐imines such as quinolinium and isoquinolinium salts are also suitable substrates, resulting in the production of 1,2,4‐triazolo[1,5‐a]quinoline and 1,2,4‐triazolo[5,1‐a]isoquinoline derivatives under mechanochemical conditions.

Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation/annulation of benzimidates with 4-diazoisochroman-3-imines furnished 8-alkoxy-5H-isochromeno[3,4-c]isoquinolines in moderate to excellent yields with a broad range of substrate scope. The reaction was carried out under mild reaction conditions and could be scaled up with practical usage. Similar reaction between benzimidates and 4-diazoisoquinolin-3-ones provided 1-alkoxy-4-arylisoquinolin-3-ols in excellent yields. Moreover, the synthesized products could be conveniently transformed to the corresponding heterocycles with a 1,8-naphthyridinone or isochromenopyridinone core, which are privileged structures in medicinal chemistry.

Abstract:A new methodology for the Cu-catalyzed synthesis of 1H-1,2,3-triazoles from 1,1-dibromoalkenes and sodium azide is presented. Aryl dibromoolefins were efficiently converted into the corresponding 1,2,3-triazoles. A comprehensive number of functional groups were compatible with this reaction. 1,2,3-Triazoles were obtained in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract:The synthesis of a series of novel phenoxy(phenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazoles by oxidative cyclization of phenoxybenzaldehyde and diamine in the presence of ruthenium(II)-catalysts is described The transformation using a catalytic amount of [RuCl 2 ( p -cymene)] 2 was found to be highly efficient as the reaction selectively produces monoarylated benzimidazoles in excellent yields (up to 92 %). This result signify high efficacy of the catalyst for the selective synthesis of phenoxy(phenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazoles (monoarylated benzimidazole-containing diphenyl ether scaffolds). The use of other ruthenium catalyst viz . N^O chelate ruthenium(II)-complex gave monoaryled benzimidazole and 1,2-diarylbenzimidazole as the major and minor products, respectively. On the other hand, the reaction carry out using excess MgSO 4 /TFA produced mono- and 1, 2-diarylbenzimidazole derivative in almost equal amount or diarylated compounds as the major product. Electron withdrawing substituent in the diphenyl ether ring gave higher yields then electron donating substituents. Theoretical study such as structure optimization, HUMO-LUMO, hardness, softness and electronegativity determination of 2-arylbenzimidazole derivatives have been carried out in DFT/B3LYP/6–311 ++ G(d,p) quantum chemical method and basis set using the Gaussian 09 W-Gaussian-View 5.0.9 package program. The synthesized compounds were characterized using FTIR, NMR and mass spectral data. The crystal structure of a precursor compound, 2-(2, 4-difluorophenoxy)benzaldehyde, has been determined by a single X-ray crystallography.
