Abstract:The stoichiometric LaCoO3 and nonstoichiometric LaCo1.2O3 perovskite catalysts were prepared by citric acid sol–gel method, and then, LaCoO3 perovskite was etched with nitric acid. The structure, surface composition and reducibility of the catalyst were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen desorption, transmission electron microscope (TEM), temperature program reduction of H2 (H2-TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that nitric acid etching did not change the crystal structure and the overall morphology of the LaCoO3 catalyst, but it can cause the exposure of B-site Co metal to the surface of the catalyst. As a result, after acid etching, the reducibility of the LaCoO3 catalyst was improved, leading to the improvement in the catalytic activity of the LaCoO3 catalyst for CO oxidation and C3H8 combustion. Moreover, the catalytic activity of the LaCoO3 catalyst after acid etching was higher than that of LaCo1.2O3 and CoOx/LaCoO3 catalyst.

Abstract:The rational design of low-cost catalysts with excellent catalytic activity is one of the most significant topics in heterogeneous catalysis. LaFeO3 (LFO) perovskite was synthesized by the citrate sol-gel method and followed through a selective dissolution method by acid solutions. The surface element percentage, chemical states and pore structure of LFO were tuned. The acid-treated catalyst (LFO-H) showed higher activity in CO oxidation than the raw LFO. In terms of various characterizations, the exposed La ions of the LFO were slightly etched by dilute nitric acid, but the LFO-H still preserved the original perovskite framework. The corresponding surface area, surface oxygen vacancies and reducibility were also improved after acid treatment, accounting for its higher catalytic activity. Moreover, the LFO-H also exhibited excellent thermal stability because the perovskite structure remains after acid treatment.

Abstract:Interface interaction existed in the multicomponent determines the catalytic performance of composite catalysts. Herein, a Co3O4-LaCoO3 (Co-La) composite catalyst with strong spinel-perovskite interface interaction was successfully synthesized via a one-pot sol-gel method for the catalytic oxidation of toluene. The activity test results showed that the optimal 1Co3O4–4LaCoO3 (1Co-4La) catalyst exhibits much higher catalytic activity (T90 = 215 °C, GHSV = 50,000 h−1) than Co3O4 (T90 = 295 °C), LaCoO3 (T90 = 256 °C) and 1Co3O4/4LaCoO3 (1Co/4La) (prepared by mechanical ball-milling, T90 = 285 °C). Characterizations revealed that the strong spinel-perovskite interface interaction generated between the Co3O4 spinel and LaCoO3 perovskite in 1Co-4La facilitates the transfer of interfacial electrons, contributing to the exposure of surface active Co3+ and the enhanced oxidation ability of surface active Co3+ on 1Co-4La. In addition, the reactive lattice oxygen of surface Co3+–O on 1Co-4La effectively promotes the decomposition of toluene into CO2, enabling the low-temperature oxidation of toluene through the Mars-van Krevelen (MvK) mechanism. This work provides insight into the promotional effect of multicomponent interface interaction on enhancing catalytic performance of spinel-perovskite composite catalysts.

Abstract:Cobalt oxides have been considered as a kind of highly efficient catalyst for the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this work, lanthanum-cobalt composite oxides were prepared by using the co-precipitation method, and toluene was used as the model compound. Diversified techniques including XRD, SEM, Raman spectra, XPS, H2-TPR, and N2 adsorption-desorption were applied to investigate the physicochemical properties of as-prepared materials. The composite catalysts showed different morphology including larger specific surface area and higher pore volume which would accelerate the adsorption of toluene and improve the amount of active sites on surface. Moreover, the addition of lanthanum could enhance the low-temperature reducibility, and it could be also beneficial to expose more Co3+ and adsorbed oxygen species on the surface of catalysts which could accelerate the oxidation of toluene and lower onset oxidation temperature. 0.05La-Co (with a molar ratio of lanthanum against cobalt is 0.05) showed the best catalytic performance. The complete conversion of toluene was achieved at 225 °C under the condition of toluene concentration = 1000 ppm and SV = 20,000 ml·g−1·h−1. Stability test over 0.05La-Co was conducted at 225 °C and it could maintain the 100% conversion of toluene for 720 min, indicating the excellent stability of as-prepared catalysts. Undoubtedly, lanthanum-cobalt composite oxide is a kind of promising material for the catalytic oxidation of VOCs.

Abstract:Perovskite-type oxides of LaMnO3 (LMO) were synthesized by citrate sol-gel (SG), glycine combustion (GC) and co-precipitation (CP) methods, respectively. The physicochemical properties of these LaMnO3 materials were characterized by XRD, N-2 sorption, H-2-TPR and O-2-TPD. Their catalytic performances were evaluated for the oxidation of toluene. It was shown that well-formed perovskite structures were obtained over samples LMO-SG and LMO-GC. Traces of La2O3 phase were detected over sample LMO-CP. The ranking in terms of specific surface area, low-temperature reducibility and concentration of surface adsorbed oxygen species from the highest to the lowest value was LMO-SG > LMO-CP > LMO-GC, which was in good agreement with the catalytic activity order. Sample LMO-SG exhibited the optimum catalytic activity and durability without any deactivation observed during the steady state of 60 h. Its superior catalytic performance could be greatly attributed to its higher specific surface area, better lowtemperature reducibility and more available surface adsorbed oxygen species. The apparent activation energies of samples LMO-SG, LMO-GC and LMO-CP were 71, 84 and 76 kJ mol(-1), respectively. The lowest apparent activation energy of sample LMO-SG was in good agreement with its better catalytic behavior for toluene oxidation. (c) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Hydrogen purification is essential to satisfy the various purity requirements for different applications. Preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO-PROX) is a promising strategy for removing CO from H 2 -rich reformate in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Nonetheless, the large proportion of H 2 production via methanol steam reforming (MSR) will intensify oxidation competition between H 2 and CO, and the CO conversion and CO 2 selectivity decrease considerably with increasing temperature. The tolerance of the PEMFCs against the CO species absorbed upon the surface presents the biggest dilemma. This work modified the conventional CuO/CeO 2 catalyst in the CO-PROX by doping the support with lanthanum (La). CuO/La-CeO 2 catalyst can effectively eliminate CO (<10 ppm) in 70 vol% H 2 and exhibit superior stability over 50 % selectivity in CO-PROX reaction. The surface properties of the catalyst before and after modification are characterized by XRD, N 2 isothermal adsorption–desorption, H 2 -TPR, XPS, (HR)TEM Raman and Operando FT-IR, demonstrating that the La-CeO 2 anchors CuO particle provides stable low-valence Cu sites (Cu ξ+ ) with enhanced catalytic selectivity.

Compared with Co3O4 made by precipitation and citrate methods, Co3O4-SR catalysts possess lager surface area, smaller particle size, weaker surface Co—O bond and more surface defects. Co3O4-SR catalysts exhibit high activity and stability for total oxidation of toluene, with a toluene conversion of 95% at 230 °C without any observable trend of deactivation in 60 h.

Abstract:LaFeO3-TiO2 nanocatalyst was prepared by a citric-sol-gel method.The catalyst was characterized by TG-DTA,FTIR,UV-Vis and XRD technology.The effect of calcining temperature,LaFeO3 compounding quantity and reaction optimization conditions on the activity of photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to methanol were studied.It showed that incorporation of LaFeO3 could effectively inhibit phase transformation from anatase phase to rutile and broaden the catalyst light-response range,thereby improving the photocatalytic performance.Catalyst was calcined at 800℃,the composite quality score of LaFeO3 was 3%,the amount of catalyst was 2.0g/L,the reaction time was 7h,CO2 flow 200mL/min,the reaction temperature was 90℃,the concentration of NaOH and Na2SO3 were 0.10mol/L,yield of methanol reached 325.49μmol/g.Mechanism of CO2 photocatalytic reduction on LaFeO3-TiO2 catalyst was proposed.
Facile synthesis of highly active LaCoO 3/MgO composite perovskite via simultaneous co-precipitation in supercritical water

Abstract:In this paper, LaCoO3/MgO composite perovskites were synthesized via a facile route using supercritical water and a more conventional citrate route. The resultant samples were denoted as sc-LCM and cr-LCM, respectively, which were subsequently subjected to a range of analytical techniques, including XRD, HAADF-STEM, HR-TEM, BET, H2-TPR, O2-TPD, etc. Experimental results showed that the sc-LCM sample had a well dispersed “support dispersion” feature (i.e. perovskites were dispersed on MgO supports), which yielded higher surface area and better oxygen desorption and reduction capability than the cr-LCM sample (with “among dispersion” feature, i.e. perovskites were dispersed among MgO particles), hence showing good performance in toluene and methane oxidation tests. We proposed that the “support dispersion” model in the sc-LCM sample could be more beneficial for the design of composite perovskites, which could not only ensure the functioning of MgO as sintering barriers but also provide sufficient contacting of LaCoO3 particles with MgO support, leading to more oxygen deficiency in the structure as well as abundant weakly chemisorbed oxygen. We expect that the results present herein could give a new thought for the syntheses of composite perovskites with higher surface area and better catalytic activity.

Abstract:Co1−xLaxOy catalysts were synthesized by citric acid complex method and their catalytic activities for soot combustion in air were investigated in this study. Abstract:Cu-based catalysts, which are regarded as the most promising catalysts for CO2 conversion, suffer dramatic deactivation at high temperatures. In this work, LaFeO3, a typical perovskite-type oxide, is employed to disperse and stabilize Cu particles for the reverse water gas shift reaction. Compared to traditional Cu-based catalysts, Cu/LaFeO3 exhibits a higher conversion with 100% CO selectivity and better stability at 873 K. Structural and spectroscopic characterization including N2O chemisorption, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, in situ x-ray diffraction, and x-ray absorption fine structure show that metallic Cu is well dispersed on LaFeO3, forming more Cu-LaFeO3 interface. CO2 temperature-programmed surface reaction (CO2-TPSR), two-step transient surface reaction (two-step TSR), and transient in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transformed spectroscopy experiments demonstrate that the superior activity is attributed to the synergistic effect between the highly dispersed Cu particles for H-2 dissociation and the abundant oxygen vacancies in LaFeO3 support for CO2 activation. The synergistic effect between metal and perovskite-type oxide increases metal-support interfaces and enhances CO2 activation, leading to a potential application in a variety of chemical reactions.

Abstract:Supercritical water (sc-H2O) reaction environment was evidenced with the capability to dramatically facilitate the solid-state reaction between hybrid oxides. This led to one-step and rapid (within several seconds) syntheses of ultrafine LaMnO3 nano-crystallites (at ca. 6nm) with no need of additional heat-treatment (literaturelly need to be heat-treated at 600–800°C for 4–6h in static air). The ultrafine LaMnO3 was shown with remarkable surface area and distinct oxygen mobility and reducibility, which yielded an activation energy (Ea) in toluene oxidation at only ca. 54.3kJ/mol, comparable to some noble metal catalysts.

Abstract:A high-surface-area La-Ce-Mn mixed oxide was synthesized by citrate method, with further acid etching to dissolve the La3+ ions in the lattice. The acid etching process efficiently improved the specific surface area, increased the ratios of Mn4+/Mnn+, Ce3+/Cen+, Oα/Otot, and enhanced the oxygen mobility of the catalyst, which were responsible for the superior catalytic performance. Compared to the pristine La0.8Ce0.2MnO3+δ catalyst, the etched one could convert CO and C3H8 more efficiently, with 90% conversion of CO and C3H8 at only 73 and 196°C, respectively. Such superior catalytic performance made it possible to be used for automotive emission control during cold-start period.

Abstract:For perovskite La1-xCaxCoO3 (Ca-x, x=0-0.3), Ca-0.2 with the closest O p-band center to the Femi level, display the best catalytic activity for toluene oxidation. Abstract:In this work, MnO2/LaMnO3 catalysts derived from LaMnO3 perovskite were prepared in situ via a facile selective removal and oxidation method using acidic KMnO4 solution. For bulk LaMnO3 perovskite, the A-site cations (La) were dissolved and B-site cations (Mn3+) were simultaneously oxidized to Mn4+ with acid treatment. The modified catalyst exhibited better activity for toluene oxidation than bulk LaMnO3. This method improves the Mn4+ content on the LaMnO3 surface with good low temperature reducibility. Meanwhile, this method increases the specific surface area and provides more oxygen vacancies on the surface. These results are beneficial for the toluene adsorption and its ring-opening reaction. Moreover, MnO2/LaMnO3 still maintained good thermal stability for toluene oxidation at high temperatures resulting from the presence of the perovskite structure.

Abstract:A series of LaCo1−xMnxO3 (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) perovskite-type catalysts were prepared by citric acid sol–gel method to study the influence of partial Mn-substitution on the catalytic performance and surface oxygen species of LaCoO3 perovskite-type catalysts. Their catalytic performances for particulate matters (PM) oxidation were investigated by a technique of temperature-programmed oxidation reaction (TPO), indicating that the catalytic performance of LaCo0.95Mn0.05O3 is better. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, IR, H2-TPR, O2-TPD and XPS. The results show that LaCo1−xMnxO3 catalysts have perovskite-type structures after partially substituted by Mn. There are three kinds of oxygen species, lattice oxygen ion O2−, peroxide ion O− and superoxide ion O2−, are present on the surfaces of catalysts. The content of surface oxygen species varies with Mn-substitution amount. Superoxide ion O2− and surface oxygen vacancy play an important role in the reaction of PM oxidation.

Abstract:A Co-doped MnO(2)catalyst with a trace amount of Co was synthesized by a selective dissolution method using LaMn(0.9)Co(0.1)O(3)as a perovskite precursor. The obtained catalyst exhibited much higher catalytic activity than pure LaMn(0.9)Co(0.1)O(3)and MnO(2)with excellent selectivity to CO(2)and resistance to H2O in the range of 90-350 degrees C. Its superior performance was induced by the surface reducibility, surface-active oxygen, and the synergistic effect between the trace amount of Co and MnO2.
