Abstract:We investigate the incentive consequences of introducing the possibility of draws into lottery contests. Equilibrium total effort unambiguously decreases when draws are introduced, whereas the equilibrium expected winner’s effort increases when the contestants’ valuations of the prize become sufficiently dispersed.
