Abstract:As aircraft altitude increases, the effects of air rarefaction become significant. Inside the engine, heat transfer at the turbine blade wall shows a unique pattern under low Reynolds number conditions. In this paper, the influence of low Reynolds number flow transition on heat transfer is investigated using experimental and numerical simulation methods. Three blades without film holes are installed in the wind tunnel. Heat transfer at the middle vane wall is measured by transient liquid crystal technology. Two turbulence models, including the SST and SST-γ-Reθ transition, were used to simulate both fully turbulent heat transfer processes and heat transfer processes taking the transition into account. Three parameters discussed include Reynolds number (Re), turbulence intensity (Tu) and wall roughness (Rk). Five Re numbers covering a wide range from 0.3 × 105 to 2.6 × 105, are selected to study the heat transfer of low Re. In this part, Tu is 16.9 %. Two Tu values (2.3 % and 15.7 %) and three Rk values (5um, 10um and 15um) are then specified in the simulation boundary conditions. In comparison, their effects were examined. The results indicate that the mainstream is laminar for case of Re = 0.3 × 105. As Re increases, transition and following turbulence appears and develops at downstream of both sides. However, the normalized heat transfer Nu increases at different rate. At high Re, the transition limits further increase in Nu. Tu effects strongly change the flow state. For results of Re = 1.5 × 105 and 3.0 × 105, high Tu increases Nu by 2/3 in the laminar region while maintaining the same magnitude of Nu in the turbulent region. Rk can change the pressure distribution on the wall, increasing the pressure gradient and thus delaying the occurrence of the transition. The distribution of Nu shows that Nu increases with increasing Rk in the turbulent region, while the opposite is true in the laminar zone.
